Mrs. Martin Brown Dies After Long Illness

HAS LIVED IN THIS COMMUNITY SINCE 1894--RITES WERE HELD WEDNESDAY HERE

Mary Ellen Lockwood was born on March 12, 1887 near Firth, Nebr., and departed this life on April 19, 1942 at Kearney, Nebr., at the age of 55 years, 1 month and 7 days.

She moved with her parents to a farm south of Gibbon in 1894 and spent the remainder of her life in and near Gibbon. She united in marriage with Martin Brown on March 12, 1906. To this union was born ten children, five sons and five daughters. Mrs. Ethel Miller of Gibbon; Mrs. Roy Loffer, Gibbon; Mrs. Stella Smith, Columbus, Ohio; Everett of Yoncalla, Ore.; Clifford of Fort Bliss, Texas; Mrs. Doris Van Vleet of Yoncalla, Ore.; Franklin of Gibbon; Mrs. Phyllis Stearley of Shelton; Floyd of Yoncalla, Ore.; and Dale of Gibbon, who, with her husband, ten grandchildren survive. Two sisters, Mrs. Clara Barrett of Gibbon; Miss Allie Lockwood of Lincoln and one brother Frank Lockwood of Fletcher, Oklahoma, also mourn her departure.

She was a kind and loving mother, and a very patient sufferer during her late illness. Her life truly represented the American Mother, having reared to manhood and womanhood five sons and five daughters, all of whom remain to cherish her memory.

Funeral services were conducted from the Methodist church yesterday afternoon, Wednesday, and were in charge of J. Arthur Miller, pastor of the church. Pall bearers were: W.R. Schoh, E.W. Lockhart, T.F. Ice, Chester Smith, William Keup, and J.D. Winchester.

Burial was made in the Riverside Cemetery.
