A Short History of "Cabin Ridge" The Home Place of the Todds of Harmony, Maryland


            

20 January 1664
A 400 acre tract of land was surveyed for Thomas Clarke. The tract was located on what is now called Fowling Creek in Caroline County and the tract was called "Cabin Ridge" (Pat. L9 F107). The grant was made to Clarke for transporting himself, Sarah his wife, Robert his son, Sarah his daughter, Mary Girdler and Hugh Jenkins.

Edward Billiter and Anne his wife of Dorchester Co. to Jonas Dawson of the same co, Cordwainer: "Billiters Landing" on Fowling Creek adj. "Cabbin Ridge" and containing 50 acres more or less.

John Dawson of Dorchester County, planter, to Burtonwood Allcock of the same county, planter: "Billeters Landing" on the south side of Great Choptank River at Fowling Creek, near the head of the creek, adj. "Cabben Ridge" and containing 50 acres more or less.

James Auld of Dorchester Co. and Rosanah his wife to William Richardson, Junior of the same co: "Burtenwoods Neglect" between the branches of Fowling Creek and Great Choptank River, adj. "Billiters Landing," "Cabbin Ridge" and "Taylors Lott" and containing 265 acres more or less in all, except such parts as are included in two older tracts called "Tiverton" and "Mulraine."

Anne Stevens, (widow of John Stevens), to Bromwell (or Brummel) Andrew, lease of "Cabbin Ridge" where he now lives, for ten years next ensuing, paying annual rent of 46 pounds 10 shillings specie. Andrew agrees to rotate the land every three years.
Witnesses: Mariah Anderson, John M. Anderson.

17 September 1808
Robert Stevens of Caroline County, to Ennalls Martin and Peter Edmondson, of Talbot County, in consideration of 307 pounds 1 shilling and 4 pence, (Stevens) mortgages "Cabin Ridge," (containing) 400 acres in Caroline County, devised to Robert by John Stevens, his father. Payment due 1 October 1809 with interest.

1860
Edward W. Liden died 1852 leaving a widow, Sarah R. (now married to Gootee Stevens), and children: Nancy R., wife of Isaac K. Wright; William E.; Sarah A. (now married to Francis Neal); and Elizabeth E. Liden. The last three are minors (in 1852). Owned tracts "Cabbin Ridge," "Out Range," Stevens Beginning" and "Waddels Venture."
