The Will of Cornelius Johnson of Dorchester County, Maryland


 

In the Name of God Amen the Nineteenth day of October Annon. Dom. 1739: I Cornelius Johnson of Dorchester County in the Province of Maryland being sick & weak in body but of perfect sound memory and mind thanks be given to God- therefore calling unto mind the mortality of my body & knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die, Do make & ordain this my last Will & Testament, that is to say. Principally & first of all I Give & Bequeath my Soul into the hands of God that gave it, And as for my body I Recommend it to the Earth to be buried in Christian like & decent manner at the discretion of my Ex'rs hereafter Nominated, nothing doubting but at the general Resurrection I shall receive the same again by the mighty Power of God, & as touching such worldly Estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me with in this life, I Give, Devise & Bequeath of the same in the following manner (Viz:)

Impts. I Give & Bequeath unto my beloved wife Mary Johnson my now Dwelling House & Plantation known by the name of Tittington Containing Eighty five Acres during her natural life & after her Decease to fall & descend unto my Son Isaac Johnson, To him & his his heirs for ever.

Item. I Give & Bequeath unto my beloved Son Harmon Johnson All that part of a Tract of Land on the West side of his Lordships Road, Commonly called by the name of Hardship, To him his heirs for ever.

Item. I Give & Bequeath unto my beloved Son Isaac Johnson All that part of a Tract of Land Lying Eastward of his Lordships Road, Commonly called by the name of Hardship Joyning my Plantation called Tittington, to him his heirs & Assigns for ever.

Item. I Give & Bequeath unto my two Daughters Sarah Dukes & Rachel Sexton A Tract of Land containing One Hundred Acres to be equally divided between them situate, lying & being in Kent County on Delaware, Commonly called or known by the name of Pokedy to them their Heirs & Assigns for ever.

Item. I Give & Bequeath unto my beloved Wife Mary Johnson all of my moveable Goods during her natural life Excepting two Featherbeds I Give & Bequeath unto my Son Isaac, to be Delivered to him after my Decease. And after my said Wife's Decease all my said Moveable Goods to fall & descend unto my Son Isaac To Him & his Heirs for ever.

Item. I Do hereby Constitute make ordain my dear & loving Wife Mary Johnson & Harmon Johnson to be the Ex'rs of this my last Will & Testament. And I Do hereby utterly Disallow Revoke & Disannul all & every former Wills & Testaments Legacies Ex'r & Executrix by me in any ways before this time named willed & Bequeathed. Ratifying & Confirming this & no other to be my last Will & Testament. In Witness whereof I have Set my hand & Seal the day & year first above written. Signed Sealed Published Pronounced & Declared by the said Cornelius Johnson as his last Will & Testament in the Presence & sight of us.
