The Will of Olive Jump

of Sussex County, Delaware

Olive Jump of Sussex Co., Delaware
written 30 Dec. 1810
probated 5 Feb. 1811
Lib. F-6 fol. 442-444

The last will and testament of Olive Jump of Sussex County in the state of Delaware as touching my worldly Estate as I am owing money more than my personal property would pay without to great a (dimisration?). I will that my executor herein after named, after my decease, as soon as convinient shall sell to the highest bidder or bidders sundry acre lots of land, not exceding ten to be laid off in the forks of the road convenient to the Methodist meeting house, the lots (may) be laid off from the first out line of my land from the meeting house lot, except Nancy Dawson's fenced lot for her lifetime, to the extreme forks of the road at the mouth (of) Zebdial Dawson's lane. Nature has formed the place for an inland village and I wish not to with hold the priviledge from the public, the monies arrising from the sale of said lots I will to be applied to the payment of my debts to any person or persons who shall purchase any or all of the said lots of ground my executor deed or deeds to such purchasers or purchaser shall be a sufficient title, my executor shall have a right to an adequate compensation out of my estate for his trouble and expences in the sale of said lots.

I will that all the residue of my estate real and personal after my debts is paid shall remain in the hands of my beloved wife Mary during her continuance in widowhood after my decease, that she shall niether account for rents nor interest, niether shall she charge her children for raising or schooling. If my said wife and children ______ consume the property in the course of her widowhood no person shall be accountable therefor. If in case my said widow marries after my decease it seems most right that she shall retain one third of the property remaining on hand for life, but my will is that after her death or marriage that all property real and personal that properly belongs to my heirs shall be exposed to publick sale ny my executor if he is still living or by eldest surviving heir, and the monies arising from said sales shall be equally divided amongst all my surviving children after deducting out of my daughter Nexa Jones' share the sum of forty dollars and out of my daughter Nancy Bradley's share seventy dollars, my reason for the willing of my property for sale it may enable children to emigrate from the little poore proud state of Delaware to the western teritories.

I do hereby appoint my son-in-law Isaac Jones the sole executor of this my last will revoking all others. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this thirtyeth day of December in the year of our Lord eighteen hundred and ten 1810.
