Dear Prospective Volunteer,
We have been compiling lists to help people find specific peoples marriages covering the period 1820-1860 for Vizzini. And now need volunteers to start compling a list of names for Births and Deaths from Vizzini covering the period 1820-1860. The lists are to be used in conjunction with the filmed records from the family history centers to find our ancestors, and will be made available in a searchable format from this website for all people to use. Currently you need to step through an entire microfilm roll, frame by frame, to find a particular person you are interested in. By using these lists, we would be able to speed up the time taken to research people from Vizzini and go directly to the correct record.
The task of compiling the lists is a large one, and we need help if it is to be completed in our lifetime. I'm looking for people who will be creating a list for each microfilm roll covering each record showing each persons name.

Extraction Format
For Births and Deaths.
This website can accommodate all the information that you will be submitting.
You can search on the marriage database by going to:
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~catania/searchform.html
We have standardised on a format that will be easy for you to follow and
will make it easy for us to handle when displaying the data on the website.
The following is an example of what your work should look like when you
submit it:
RecordType/Book/RecordNumber/Year/Forename/Midlenames/Surname/
birth/1/100/1830/albano/marco/nicola
birth/1/101/1830/motta/giulio/alberto
The ordering of the fields on each line must be exactly as shown above
and they correspond to the following:
RecordType -- either Birth or Death
Book -- usally only one book in each year
RecordNumber -- self explanatory (please use numbers only)
Year -- a four digit number
Forename -- First name only
Middlenames -- Any middle names only
Surname -- Surname name only
You have a choice of two ways to enter your data
- spreadsheet such as excel (preferred)
- text editor such as notepad or word processor such as MS Word
SpreadSheet
If you enter the data using a spreadsheet, then the columns are in the
order specified above. If you don't have an entry for a particular cell, then
just leave it blank. When you are through you can e-mail the final
spreadsheet to me. If it helps, here is a template that you can use as a
starting point for generating the spreadsheet:

Text Editor
If you enter the data using a text editor or word processor, then
adjacent fields must be separated by a single tab. If you don't have the
information for any field, then leave it blank in which case you will have two
adjacent tabs. For example, a Birth entry for which you can't read the
first name would appear as
RecordType<tab>Book<tab>RecordNumber<tab>Year<tab><tab>Midlenames<tab>Surname..
Don't add extra tabs to make things line up. Our program will use your
tables as its input and will realign things appropriately when displaying it
for the user.

What is involved?
1. An image of about 30 transcribed records (not orginal records) is sent to you via email.
2. You enter this information using your favorite method.
3. The results are returned via email.
4. The results are verified and added to the main database at the next
update.
5. A new image is sent, unless you you state otherwise.
