Spelling variations include Kerr, Car, Carr, Ker, Cearr (Gaelic) and many more. First found in Lancashire where they were seated from very early times and were granted lands by Duke William of Normandy, their liege Lord, for their distinguished assistance at the Battle of Hastings in 1066 A.D.Some of the first settlers of this name or some of its variants were William Ker, who settled in New Hampshire in 1718; David Kerr arrived in Jamaica in 1775; John Carr settled in Virginia in 1716; Alexander, Andrew,Edward, Frank, Henry, Horace, Hugh, James,John, Joseph, Mathew, Robert,Samuel, Thomas and William Kerr, all arrived in Philadelphia between 1800 and 1860.

Spelling variations include: Gore, Gorr, Core and others.  First found in Essex where they were seated from early times and their first records appeared on the early census rolls taken by the early Kings of Britain to determine the rate of taxation of their subjects.  Some of the first settlers of this name or some of its variants were: JohnGore settled in New England in 1630; Richard Gore settled in New England also in 1630; Steven Gore settled in Maryland in 1633; Thomas Gore was one of the earliest recorded settlers in the United States, he settled in Virginia in 1606.

The earliest known ancestor of my Karr line is Thomas Karr born 1822 in Ross County, Ohio.  He married Sarah Elenor McWilliams on 10 October 1844 in Highland County, Ohio.  The family migrated to Marion County, Iowa, where they lived for approximately 20 years before moving to Topeka, Kansas.  Both Thomas and Sarah died in Kansas.  They had  11 children.  Other surnames associated with this line are:

The earliest known ancestor of my Gore line is Ashford Gore born 1820 in Trigg County, Kentucky.  He married Mary Jane Onstott on 26 January 1845 in Ralls County, Missouri.  They had 10 children.  Other surnames associated with this line are:
