Mr. Yetterboe, also known as Chum, was born Aug. 15, 1925, near Jud, where he grew up and attended school. In 1945 he joined the U.S. Navy. After his military discharge in 1946 he returned to the Jud area where he farmed until he retired in 1988.

Mr. Yetterboe was born Aug. 16, 1918, in Jud, N.D., where he grew up and attended school. He joined the U.S. Army and served in World War II. On July 12, 1953, he married LaVerne Gohner in Alfred, N.D. They farmed near Alfred until they retired to Gackle in 1986.

He is survived by his wife; four daughters, Angela Yetterboe, Tuba City, Ariz., Cindy Barks, Prescott, Ariz., Shelly Idemmili, Eagan, Minn., Jody Yetterboe, Chaska, Minn.; a brother, Emmett, Jud; two sisters, Fern Pratschner, LaMoure, Lorrayne, Pratschner, Casselton, N.D.; and five grandchildren. ...

Dorothy Lucile Haffner was born March 1, 1918, in Poctello, Idaho, the daughter of Christ C. and Frederica (Sandau) Haffner. She was baptized on April 13, 1925, in Wishek, N.D. She married Reinhold Schlittenhard on Sept. 10, 1935, in Fullerton, N.D. He died Nov. 15, 1973. She worked at the North Dakota State Hospital, Jamestown, for approximately 18 years, becoming ward manager. She was awarded aide of the year and received the 1968 Certificate of Achievement, Devotion and Skill to the Handicapped and Mentally Ill. She received her GED in 1974. She married Ernest W. Young on April 12, 1975, in Bismarck, N.D., and they moved to Twin Falls in 1976.

She is survived by three daughters, Joyce Peterson, Twin Falls, Betty Stabenow, Binford, N.D., and Sharon Reinhold, Pacific, Wash.; a son, Walter Schlittenhard, Twin Falls; two stepdaughters, Shirley Roemmick, Steele, N.D., and Patricia Carmen, Bismarck; three stepsons, Robert V. Young, Huvelton, N.Y., Robert E. Young, Guthrie, Okla., and Ernest W. Young; two brothers, William, Twin Falls, and Howard, Kulm, N.D.; two sisters, Virginia Grewatz, Sierra Vista, Ariz., and Ella Massie, Twin Falls; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her first husband; her second husband; a stepson, Ernest W. Young Jr.; her parents; four brothers; and two sisters.

Services: 10 a.m. today, Parke’s Magic Valley Funeral Home, Twin Falls, and 1 p.m. Sept. 4, Haut Funeral Chapel, Jamestown.
Burial: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Jamestown.

Eva Roemmich was born on June 26, 1907 near Streeter, ND, the daughter of Michael and Johanna (Schuler) Roemmich. Eva attended a country school near Streeter. She married Otto Koehler on June 5, 1930 and after his death, she married Henry Zeiszler on October 2, 1948. She and Henry lived in Halliday, ND, until 1982. As a young woman, Eva worked as a waitress at the Stockman’s Café in Billings, MT, and later at the Woodlawn Hotel in Steele, ND. She retired in 1974. In 1982, Eva moved to Steele and then to Butte, MT, in 2004. She moved into the Golden Manor in January of 2006.

Her family, children, and grandchildren were her pride and joy. Eva was always keeping busy making doilies, quilts, dishtowels, and afghans. When she wasn’t doing one of those she was baking or cooking.

Eva is survived by four daughters and three sons-in-law, Edna Wheeler, Billings, MT, Hilda (Chet) Cordell, Golden Valley, AZ, Shirley (Larry) Brusven, Steele, ND, and Mary Ann (Joel) Nore, Cleveland, MN; five sons and four daughters-in-law, William Koehler, Billings, MT, Arnold (Mary) Koehler, Vaughn, MT, Walter (Linda) Koehler, Terry, MT, Leonard (Marion) Koehler, Butte, MT, and Jimmy (Diane) Zeiszler, Jamestown, ND; 25 grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren; and 24 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Otto Koehler and Henry Zeiszler; one daughter, Violet; five grandchildren; eight brothers, Henry, Jacob, William, Carl, Peter, August, Edward, and Emmanuel; and one sister, Emma.

The Rev. Dr. Alton Zenker, 75, Hot Springs Village, Ark., formerly of Gackle, N.D., died Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2008, at his home.

Mr. Zenker was born Aug. 28, 1933, in Gackle, the son of August and Christina (Siegley) Zenker. He grew up in Gackle and was a member of Neudorf Lutheran Church. He received a Bachelor of Arts from Wartburg College, Waverly, Iowa, Master of Divinity and Doctor of Divinity from Wartburg Theological Seminary, Dubuque, Iowa, and a Doctor of Divinity from Wartburg College. He served as an intern at Faith Lutheran Church, Youngstown, Ohio. He was ordained in 1959. He pastored in Flasher, N.D., Carson, N.D., Linton, N.D., and Thomasboro, Ill. He was the assistant to the bishop of the Illinois district American Lutheran Church and as an assistant to the bishop in Springfield, Ill., Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. He later served as the bishop in Central and Southern Illinois Synod, ELCA, Springfield, for six years. He was an officer for many pastoral-conference groups including: conference chair, faculty for bible camps and leadership training schools, Soil Conservation District and the board of directors at Linton Hospital. He was a youth advisor for KEM Electric Cooperative, ALC representative to the Colloquium of the Church in Future Society and went on an ALC fact-finding tour to Central America. He was a member of the Chamber of Commerce, president of the Parent Teacher Association and served on the Board of Regents at Wartburg College, Conference of Bishops, Companion Synod tour of Madagascar and the Board of Regents at Lutheran School of Theology, Chicago. He was the bishop’s ELCA representative to the Inter-Lutheran Coordinating Committee for Specialized Pastoral Care. He also served as interim pastor at Christ Lutheran Church, Hot Springs Village, and interim bishop at Grand Canyon Synod, Arizona.

He is survived by his wife, Marlene M. Wolff; two sons, Dr. Steven P. (Lori Ann), Alton, Ill., and Dr. Mark A. (Jill), Nashville, Tenn.; a brother, Malvin (Mildred), Gackle; a sister, Vera (Leno) Schultz, Jamestown; and four grandchildren.

Eva Zenker, 87, Wishek, N.D., formerly Streeter, N.D., died Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2008, at Wishek Home for the Aged, Wishek.

Eva Morlock was born Nov. 9, 1921, on her parents’ farm near Gackle, N.D., the daughter of Christ and Fredericka (Stockburger) Morlock. She grew up in the Gackle area and attended school at the Neudorf and Ketterling Township schools. She married Harold Zenker on April 20, 1944, at his parents’ farm near Gackle. They lived on the farm south of Streeter until 1977, when they moved to Streeter. He died July 20, 1982. She was employed by the Streeter School for 10 years and the Streeter Senior Citizens for six years. In 1999, she moved to Napoleon, N.D. In 2005, she moved into Wishek Home for the Aged. She was a member of St. Lukes Lutheran Church, Streeter.

She is survived by a son, Darold (DeLoris), Mandan, N.D.; three daughters, Marilyn Zins, Bismarck, N.D., Marcella (Gene) Horner, Wishek, and Marlene (Gary) Grosz, Bismarck; 17 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, an infant son, her parents, a son-in-law, Ed Zins, two brothers, three sisters, and a great-grandson.

Malvin "Curly" Zenker, 80, Gackle, N.D., died Thursday, Aug. 26, 2010, in Eventide at Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Center, Jamestown.

Mr. Zenker was born June 10, 1930, at the farm home west of Gackle, the son of August and Christina (Siegle) Zenker. He graduated from Gackle High School in 1949. He married Mildred Sukut on April 5, 1953, at Fredonia, N.D. They lived on the family farm west of Gackle where he farmed until he retired in 1995. He entered the Gackle Care Center on Nov. 6, 2008, and Hi-Acres Manor in 2009. He was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Gackle, where he served on the church council, Gackle Lions Club, Gackle School Board, Elevator Board and the North Dakota Health Council.

He is survived by his wife; two sons, Joel and Warren (Linda), both Gackle; three daughters, Corinne (Myron Gader) Zenker, Bismarck, N.D., Sharlene (Ken) Gumke, Jamestown, and Teresa (Jeremy) Nelson, Fargo, N.D.; a sister, Vera (Leno) Schultz, Jamestown; a sister-in-law, Marlene Zenker, Hot Springs Village, Ark.; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Alton; a sister, Viona; and a great-granddaughter, Mercedes.

Mary Ellen Zenker, 72, of Willmar, MN died Sunday, March 30, 2008 at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar. The service will be 11:00 am, Friday at Eagle Lake Lutheran Church in Willmar. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to service at the church on Friday. Arrangements are with Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar.

Mary Ellen was born on November 25, 1935, in Dickey County, North Dakota, the daughter of Everett and Irene (Gemar) Hale. She graduated from Gackle High School in 1954. On January 27, 1956 she was united in marriage to Edmund Zenker in Fargo, ND. Following their marriage, they lived in various ND towns, including Jamestown. They moved to Westbrook, MN in the early 1970’s. Mary Ellen later moved to Marshall and in 1988 settled in Willmar. While living in Marshall she worked as a dispatcher in Lyon County and was a dietary aid at Weiner Hospital. She was a member of Eagle Lake Lutheran Church in Willmar.

Surviving are her children, Mark (and Jennifer) Zenker of Colorado Springs, CO: Jacquelyn (and special friend, Dennis Richardson) of Willmar; Patty (and special friend, Mario Lopez Jr) Dworshak of Willmar; son-in-law, Donald Hahn of Walnut Grove; 11 grandchildren, one great granddaughter, two step grandchildren and 2 step great great grandchildren. Also surviving are her brother, Jon (and Bonnie) Hale of Baxter; sister, Barbara Malmberg of Broken Arrow, OK; sister-in-law, Madaline Hale of Alexandria and brother-in-law, Charlie Hankie of Westport, MN.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sons - Steven and Michael; daughter - Peggy Hahn; siblings - Donald Hale and Carol Hankie; and granddaughter - Rachel Zenker.

Joseph Zentner, 67, Topeka, Kan., formerly Gackle, N.D., died Thursday, June 6, 2002, at his home.

Mr. Zentner was born Oct. 30, 1934, in Burt, N.D., the son of Jacob and Grace (Stern) Zentner. He lived in Gackle before moving to Topeka, where he lived for 40 years. He was a Korean veteran of the U.S. Navy and served on the USS Cowell. He was a delivery route salesman for various companies, including Coca Cola. He also worked for American Freightways, from which he retired. He was a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church and Capitol Post #1 of the American Legion. He married Phyllis Matchey on Oct. 19, 1962, in Topeka.

He is survived by his wife; a son, Arlen, Topeka; three daughters, JoLeen Zentner, DaVonne Zentner, and LeAnna Zentner, all Portland, Ore.; a brother, Norbert, Green Bay, Wis.; three sisters, Marie Dewald, Streeter, Margaret Rains, Honey Grove, Texas, and Florence Miller, Lemmon, S.D.; and four grandchildren.

Martha Ziebart, 92, Kulm, N.D., died Thursday, April 26, 2001, at the Ashley (N.D.) Hospital.

Martha Jerke was born Aug. 14, 1908, on the family farm near Fredonia, N.D., the daughter of Gottlieb and Susana (Lenz) Jerke. She grew up and attended rural school in the Fredonia area. She married Edgar Ziebart on March 27, 1927, at Fredonia. The couple farmed in the area until 1975, when they retired and moved to Kulm. He died in 1978. She was active in her church.

She is survived by six sons, Donald, James and Gerald, all Minneapolis, Minn., Larry, Casper, Wyo., Robert (Betty), Fredonia, and Delmar (Jean), Woodville, Wis.; four daughters, Joyce (Harold) Haag, Wishek, N.D., Lucille Mason, Black Hawk, S.D., Betty Dudek, Campbell, Calif., and Norma Collins, Laguna Hills, Calif.; 21 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a son, three brothers, two sisters and a grandchild.

James Mark Ziegler, 57, of Walker, died Monday, March 6, 2006, at his residence. He entered into heaven to meet his Lord and Savior, surrounded by his wife, daughters, sons-in-law and granddaughter.

He was born Aug. 15, 1948, in Winnebago City, Minn., to Leo and Vivian (Forbes) Ziegler. He attended grade school at Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Easton. He attended high school in Wells until he moved to Milaca in 1965 and worked at a car dealership. He also worked at Jack White Motors in Princeton.

In 1971 he married Peggy Heitz, and they welcomed two daughters into their family, Stacy and Jackie. In 2002 he married his adoring wife Cathy.

Throughout his life he worked doing what he did best, mainly quenching his love of cars and machines through automotive and small engine repair. In his younger years he hung out at Bear's repair. He then started his own business at home repairing small engines. He loved to work with his hands, and did so every day.

He also loved the outdoors. Almost every day he walked uptown to enjoy time with the fellas at the Outdoorsmen Café. He enjoyed camping and, most of all, snowmobiling. He loved talking about his four stroke and going for rides with family and friends. He was a self starter; he could take something broken and mold it into a work of art. He also enjoyed auction sales.

Although he suffered with diabetes, was a kidney transplant recipient and was legally blind, he never let his disabilities get in the way of leading a life of purpose and passion.

He was a devoted Christian who loved being a part of Living Water Church. It was his faith in the Lord that gave him such a positive outlook on life. Three years ago he discovered he had cancer. He fought long and hard, and enjoyed life to the fullest even in his illness. He never complained, and he thanked God for each new day.

His biggest passion was his family. He enjoyed spending time with his wife Cathy. They were able to take his dream vacation last summer to Alaska. He also loved spending time with "his girls," Stacy, Jackie and Haylee, and "his boys," Mike and Josh. Family mattered most to him. He loved to be around people, and everyone that knew him loved his great sense of humor and fantastic outlook.

He is survived by his loving wife Cathy; two daughters Stacy (Mike) Little and Jackie (Josh) Collins; one granddaughter Haylee Little; one grandchild-to-be, growing in Jackie's tummy; one stepson, Travis (Erin) Follet; and one step-granddaughter Audrey Violet; three special sisters, Laurie (Dennis) Stenzel of Wells, Linda (Jim) Menden of Shakopee, and LeeAnn Ziegler of Le Sueur; and eight special brothers Joel (Lisa) Ziegler of Foley; Pete (Eva), Tom, Dan (Elane) and Mike (and friend Cheryl) Ziegler, all of Milaca, Rick (and friend Kathy) Ziegler of Anoka, Chuck (Cindy) Ziegler of Orlando, Fla., and Neil (LeeAnn) Ziegler of Foreston.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his two infant brothers, Ronny and Larry.

Funeral services will be held March 9, 2006, at 4 p.m. at Hope Lutheran Church in Walker with Pastor Jim Halloway officiating. Visitation will be March 8 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Thomas-Dennis Funeral Home, and one hour prior to service at the church. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Walker.

Mr. Zillmer was born Feb. 22, 1935, in Gackle, N.D., the son of Alfred and Mabel Zillmer. He grew up on the family farm near Gackle and attended country school. He entered the U.S. Army in 1952. His tours of duty took him to Germany, Vietnam, Korea and Turkey. He retired from the U.S. Army in 1972 as a sergeant major. He moved to Vining, Minn., and farmed with his sons. He lived in Orange County, California and Sprague River, Ore., for a few years. He then relocated to Little Falls. He was a member of Little Falls American Legion Post #46. He enjoyed model railroading.

He is survived by a daughter, Pamela Fielding, Anaheim Hills, Calif.; three sons, Ronnie, Little Falls, Steven (Kirsten), Northfield, Minn., and Tommy (Hui Chong), Columbia, Md.; three brothers, Glen (Irene), Ulen, Minn., Alfred "Bud" (Joyce), Cleveland, N.D., and Dale (Mary), Henning, Minn.; a sister, Joan Otto, Milltown, Wis.; and nine grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Wilbert, Raymond and Wayne.

The funeral for Mable Edna Zillmer, 88, Little Falls, Minn., formerly Gackle, N.D., will be at 2 Sunday in First United Church of Christ, Gackle. She died Thursday, Jan. 11, 1996.

Mable Holland was born April 27, 1907, in Dickey, N.D. She grew up and attended school near Gackle. On July 17, 1924 she married Alfred Zillmer in Gackle. They lived near Cleveland. They later lived in Gackle for a year, then farmed near Cleveland, N.D. In 1937 they moved to Dickey. In 1941 they returned to rural Gackle where they farmed until 1962. They later lived in Cleveland and Medina, N.D., until 1972. They then moved to the family farm near Cleveland. He died in 1976. She moved to Jamestown in 1993, and she moved to Little Falls in April....

Wayne F. Zillmer, 54, of Cabazon, Calif., died Thursday, Dec. 18, 1997, in his home.

He was born July 2, 1943, in Gackle, N.D. He lived in Duluth from 1965 to 1974 and belonged to the local IBEW for many years. He was a lineman for 38 years, most recently with IBEW Local 1245 of Riverside, Calif. He was also a member of the San Gorgonio Moose Lodge 915.

Survivors include his wife, Brenda M.; sons Timothy Zillmer of Ontario, Wayne Zillmer Jr. of Duluth and James Simpson of Cabazon, Calif.; daughters Jo Ann Garvey of Rockford, Ill., Trina Zillmer and Jodie Simpson of Cabazon, Calif., and Tonna Peterson and Kathy Grafmyre of Duluth; 19 grandchildren; one great-grandson; brothers Wilbert C. Zillmer of Cabazon, Calif., Glenn Zillmer of Ulen, Minn., Donny Zillmer of Little Falls, Minn., Alfred Zillmer Jr. of Cleveland, N.D., and Dale Zillmer of Henning, Minn.; and a sister, Joan Otto of Milltown, Wis.

Bertha F. Zimbleman, 87, Fullerton, N.D., died Sunday, July 11, 1999, in Oakes (N.D.) Good Samaritan Center.

Bertha Klein was born July 7, 1912, in LaMoure, N.D., where she graduated from high school. She attended college in Ellendale, N.D., then taught school near Gackle, N.D. On Sept. 27, 1933, she married Aaron Zimbleman. They farmed near Fullerton. In 1994 he died and she entered the nursing home.

She is survived by three sons, Donald (Ardith), James, both Fullerton, Steven (Holly), Santa Barbara; a brother, Albert (Hulda), LaMoure; a sister, Frieda Handley, Clinton, Mont.; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. ...

Edna Zimmerman, 87, Tappen, N.D., died Monday, Nov. 26, 2007, at Napoleon (N.D.) Care Center.

Edna Katherine Gums was born Dec. 27, 1919, southeast of Medina, N.D., the daughter of John J. and Rose (Deile) Gums. She grew up and attended Bloomenfield School in rural Stutsman County. She helped on the farm doing chores and taking care of her brothers, sister and neighborhood children. She taught Sunday school and Bible school. She married Arthur Zimmerman on Oct. 30, 1945, in Streeter, N.D. They purchased his parents’ farm west of Streeter and farmed there until he died in 1981. She entered the Napoleon Care Center on Aug. 15, 2007. She was a member of the Glueckstal Lutheran Church, rural Tappen, and Trinity Lutheran Church, Napoleon. She enjoyed cooking, crocheting, embroidering, reading and writing letters and taking pictures.

She is survived by two sons, LeRoy, Tappen, and Steven (Kimberly), Fargo, N.D.; two daughters, Twyla Zimmerman, Tappen, and MoDean (David) Dick, Bismarck, N.D.; a sister, Gladys (Mike) Mickelson, Fargo; and four grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and six brothers, Jacob, Gideon, Alvin, Norman, Edwin and Milton.

Services: 11 a.m. Thursday, Trinity Lutheran Church, Napoleon.
Visitation: 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. today, Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Napoleon.

Edward Zimmerman, 80, Jamestown, died Sunday, Nov. 26, 2006, at Jamestown Hospital, Jamestown. Mr. Zimmerman was born July 25, 1926, in Napoleon, N.D., the son of Carl and Marie (Sukut) Zimmerman. He attended country school in the Napoleon area. He served in the Korean War from December 1950 to September 1952. He married Viona Mittleider on Oct. 3, 1953. They lived on a farm south of Tappen, N.D., until 1966, when they moved to Jamestown. He worked for the North Dakota State Hospital until he retired in 1991. He also worked part time for Sukut Construction until 1995. He was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Jamestown. He enjoyed working in his yard and reading.

He is survived by his wife; three daughters, Sylvia (Ron) Martin, Pettibone, N.D., Kathy (Bob) Mueller, Lincoln, Neb., and Laura, Fargo, N.D.; a son, Jerome (Lynn), Spiritwood, N.D.; a brother, Isador (Evelyn), Bismarck, N.D.; three sisters, Edna Backhaus, Bismarck, and Betty Deane and Alma (George) McCollough, both Minneapolis, Minn.; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Rueben, Gay, Walter and Alvin; and a sister, Ruth Rau.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Jamestown, with the Rev. Gary Ball-Killbourne officiating.

Ella Zimmerman, 97, Mesa, Ariz., formerly Jamestown, died Sunday, Sept. 1, 2002, at Neeley Hospice House, Gilbert, Ariz.

Ella F. Kempf was born Aug. 20, 1905, at Kulm, N.D., the daughter of Fred and Justina (Brost) Kempf. She grew up and attended school in Kulm, graduating from Kulm High School in 1922. She attended Mayville (N.D.) State College, graduating in 1924, with a teaching certificate. She taught school for eight years in Kulm. She married John R. Zimmerman on June 15, 1932, at Detroit Lakes, Minn. They lived at Kulm. In 1948 they moved to Jamestown. She helped in starting the Stutsman County Book Mobile and helped run the book mobile for many years. She was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ, Women's Fellowship, Jamestown, and was past president of the Singles Club, Mesa. She enjoyed embroidery, knitting and reading.

She is survived by a son, Delano, Grand Forks, N.D.; a daughter, Jonelle (William) Griffin, Mesa; seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her stepfather, Charles Pfeiffer; and two brothers.

Services: 2 p.m. Friday, First Congregational United Church of Christ, Jamestown, N.D., with Rev. Terri Akkerman officiating.

Emil "Bumski" Zimmerman, 92, Gackle, N.D., died Thursday, Nov. 22, 2001, at Napoleon (N.D.) Care Center.

Mr. Zimmerman was born Oct. 29, 1909, at the family farm northwest of Gackle, the son of Gottlieb and Jacobina (Kerner) Zimmerman. He attended the local rural school and received his elementary education. At age 16, he moved with his family to Gackle, where he grew up and worked various jobs. He operated a cream station and later started the first bowling alley in town. He married Annetta (Tiede) Holmstrom Feb. 1, 1980, in Gackle. They lived in Gackle.

He is survived by his wife; a son, Delen (Marge), Mobile, Ala., two stepdaughters, Audrey (Richard) Smeins, Langford, S.D., and Angela (Brian) Monsebroten, Grand Forks, N.D.; five stepsons, Dale (Debbie) Holmstrom, Gackle, Kevin (Tracy) Holmstrom, Bismarck, N.D., Scott (Nadine) Holmstrom, Streeter, N.D., and Steven Holmstrom and Dan Holmstrom, both Minneapolis, Minn.; two sisters, Alice Nitschke, Gackle, and Elta (Jake) Sommerfeld, Longview, Wash.; three grandsons and 12 stepgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Christine, his second wife, Minnie; two brothers, Ed and Rueben; two sisters, Ruby Griffith and Emma Sommerfeld.

Ida Zimmerman, 94, Jamestown, died Monday, Aug. 7, 2006, at Central Dakota Village, Jamestown.

Ida Becker was born March 28, 1912, on the family farm, 12 miles east of Napoleon, N.D., the daughter of Henry H. and Katherine (Kogler) Becker. She grew up and attended school in Dixon Township, Logan County, North Dakota. She married Jake Zimmerman on May 12, 1936, at the Baptist church in Streeter, N.D. They lived in Hardin, Mont., for a few months where she worked at Sugar Beets restaurant. They returned to North Dakota and farmed east of Napoleon. They moved to Jamestown in 1953. She worked at the North Dakota State Hospital from 1954 until May 30, 1976, when she retired. He died Dec. 27, 1982. She entered Central Dakota Village in 2000. She enjoyed cooking German food, gardening and sewing.

She is survived by a daughter, Arlene Johnson, Jamestown; a brother, Eddie, Jamestown; two grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by her husband; a son-in-law, Robert Johnson; a sister, Tillie Lang; and a brother, Art.

Services: 2 p.m. Thursday, First Baptist Church, Jamestown, with the Rev. David Thompson officiating.
Visitation: 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today, Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown.

Ida Rachel Zimmerman, 89, Ramona, died on Jan. 14, 2008, at Golden Living Center in Madison.

Memorial services will be held at a later date.

Ida Kranzler was born on Jan. 15, 1918, in Stutsman County, N.D., to Gottleib and Fredericka (Buck) Kranzler. She graduated from Streeter (N.D.) High School and received a two-year teaching degree from Normal Industrial School in Ellendale, Neb. She married Ben Zimmerman on April 2, 1939, at Streeter, N.D. She taught school over 20 years. In 1968, she graduated from Dakota State College with a bachelor's degree in library science. She served as food service director in nursing homes and worked in various libraries. She was involved with Cub Scouts for more than 25 years.

The couple were caretakers at the state 4-H Camp Lakodia near Madison for 11 years and operated B&I Gifts in Ramona for more than 25 years. She was a member of Eastern Star.

Survivors include her husband, Rev. Ben Zimmerman of Ramona; and a son, Dr. Donald Zimmerman of Colorado Springs, Colo.

She was preceded in death by her parents and four sisters.

Jacob Zimmerman, 54 - Rte 1 box 327, Smith Rd., died yesterday at his home following a short illness. He was a native of Gackle, ND.

Mr. Zimmerman has resided in the Lodi area for the past 21 years. He was a member of Temple Baptist church.

He leaves his widow, Metha Zimmerman and the following children; Mrs Winifred Lippert, St Francis KS, Kenneth Zimmerman, Lodi; three grandchildren.

Surviving brothers & sisters include: Mrs Bertha Fricke, Bismarck ND, Mrs Emma Larson, Fargo ND; Harold Zimmerman, Gackle, ND; Christ Zimmerman, Lodi; Mrs Ruth Lehr, Acampo; Mrs Lydia Mueller, Lodi; and Mrs Alta Vigario, Lodi. His step mother, Mrs Katherine Zimmerman of Gackle, ND also survives.

Mrs. Jacobina Zimmerman, 79, wife of the late Gottlieb Zimmerman and longtime resident of the Gackle Community died Tuesday afternoon February 28, 1967 at the Baptist Home For The Aged in Bismarck, N. Dak. where she had resided for about three years.

Jacobina Kerner was born August 2, 1887 at Yankton, S. Dak. The daughter of John Kerner and Fredericka Herman Kerner. At an early age in 1887, she came with her parents to North Dakota, where they settled on a farm homestead in Stutsman County northwest of Gackle. She attended the local rural school and grew to womanhood on her parents farm.

She and Gottlieb Zimmerman were married April 9, 1905, at the Bloomenfeld Church northwest of Gackle. They began farming north of his fathers farm seven miles northwest of Gackle. After farming in the Gackle Community for many years, they moved to Jamestown where he worked at the State Hospital. In 1947 they moved to Gackle for their retirement. Following the death of her husband in 1949, she continued to live in Gackle until moving to the Baptist Home for the Aged.

Surviving are her children, Edward Zimmerman, Streeter, N.Dak., Emma (Mrs. Emanual Sommerfeld), Ruby (Mrs. Marion Griffith), both of Los Angeles, Calif., Emil Zimmerman, Alice (Mrs. Otto Ammon), both of Gackle, N. Dak., Ruben Zimmerman, Bridger, Mont., Elda (Mrs. Jake Sommerfeld), Vancouver, Wash., thirteen grandchildren, twenty-two great grandchildren, one brother Gust Kerner, Billings, Mont., three sisters, Lydia (Mrs. Gus Ammon), Jamestown, N.Dak., Helen (Mrs. Oscar Brosz), Ida (Mrs. Otto Geohring), both of Gackle, N.Dak.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers, and three sisters.

The funeral service for Mrs. Jacobina Zimmerman, Gackle, N.D., was held on Monday, March 6, 1967 at the Grace Baptist Church in Gackle with Rev. R. C. Stading, pastor officiating. He was assisted by Rev. A. W. Bibelheimer, Chaplain of the Baptist Home for the Aged in Bismarck, N.D. Mrs R. C. Stading played a program of organ music as friends and relatives assembled and left the church, and accompanied a duet, Mrs. Lloyd Janke and Mrs. Lloyd Schaffer who sang "Near to the Heart of God" and "I Know Who Holds Tomorrow".

The pallbearers were Gust Ammon, Oscar Brosz, Otto Geohring, John Zimmerman, Theo. Zimmerman and Ray Zimmerman.

Burial was in the Gackle Cemetery at Gackle, N.D., with the Haut Funeral Home at Gackle in charge of arrangements.

Lorene Amelia Gumke was born Feb. 2, 1934, in Gackle, N.D., the daughter of Michael and Amelia Gumke.

She is survived by two sons, Gene (Linda) and Michael (Cecelia); a daughter, Lorada (Dallas) Shrawder; two brothers, Richard and C. Morris; four sisters, Elsie Lippert, Frieda Metzs-Rivinius, Vi Dorr and Ann Arneson; five grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and two brothers, Edwin and Andrew.

Lorene A. Zimmerman, was born Lorene Amelia Gumke on February 2, 1934 to Michael and Amelia in Gackle ND. She went home to her Good Lord on January 2, 2008. She died peacefully at home surrounded by family.

Beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, Lorene was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband; and two brothers, Edwin and Andrew.

She is survived by her brothers, Richard Gumke and C. Morris Gumke; and her sisters, Elsie Lippert, Frieda Metzs-Rivinius, Vi Dorr, and Ann Arneson. She leaves behind her much loved children, Lorada (Dallas) Shrawder, Gene (Linda) Zimmerman, and Michael (Cecelia) Zimmerman; grandchildren, Alana Holmes, Stesha Zimmerman, Adam Zimmerman, Alexander Zimmerman and Jonathon Rush; along with her great-grandchild, Gunner Holmes, who was a sparkle of sunshine in her life.

Katie Schopp Zimmerman, 90, Napoleon, N.D., died Monday, March 30, 1998, in Wishek (N.D.) Hospital.

Katie Stelzer was born Aug. 13, 1907, near Streeter, N.D., where she grew up and attended school. On March 20, 1928, she married Adam Schopp in Lehr, N.D. They farmed near Lehr, before moving to Timber Lake, S.D., where they farmed. They returned to Streeter. He died in 1946. On Dec. 10, 1952, she married Ed Zimmerman in Jamestown, N.D. They lived in Gackle, N.D., before returning to Streeter in 1964. He died in 1986 and she entered Napoleon Care Center in 1997.

Marie Zimmerman, 75, Napoleon, N.D., died Friday, Oct. 25, 2002, at Medcenter One, Bismarck, N.D.

Marie Krein was born Jan. 22, 1927, near Gackle, N.D., the daughter of Theobold and Carolina (Benz) Krein. She grew up and attended school in the Gackle area and moved to Napoleon in the fall of 1948. She married Hilbert Zimmerman on June 12, 1949, in Napoleon. They lived in the Napoleon area, where she was a homemaker and he operates a sheet metal shop. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

She is survived by her husband; a son, Larry, Napoleon; three daughters, Sandy Hominick, Brandon, Manitoba, Pal Myra (Keith) Taylor, Ham Lake, Minn., and Carol (Gary) Johnson, St. Paul, Minn.; and five grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; six brothers, Theobold Jr., Art, Gottleib, Fred, Benjamin and Rueben; and three sisters, Carolina Fandrick, Christine Wirrenga and Lorraine Heupel.

Services: 2 p.m. today, Trinity Lutheran Church, Napoleon, with the Rev. Richard Hagestuen officiating.

Mrs. Rosina Zimmerman, 91, longtime resident of Jamestown, North Dakota died late Thursday morning July 11, 1968 at the Hi-Acres Manor in Jamestown, where she had resided during the past five years.

Rosina Karch was born October 15, 1876 in Gandenfeld, South Russia, the daughter of Jacob Karch and Louise Schroth Karch. During early childhood her parents died and at the age of 13 years in 1889 she came to the United States with her sister, when they settled at Eureka, South Dakota. On March 1, 1898 she and Andrew Zimmerman were married at Eureka, South Dakota where they lived for one year. In 1899 they came to North Dakota where they settled on a farm homestead four miles northwest of Gackle in Stutsman County. In the year 1906 they moved into Gackle, where her husband was engaged in various businesses. In 1942 they moved into Jamestown for their retirement. Following the death of her husband July 21, 1950, she continued to live there.

Surviving are her son, J. A. Zimmerman, 515 N. W. 12th Street, Jamestown; seven grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sons, Gottlieb in 1963 and Albert in 1961, four sisters and two step brothers.

The funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, July 15, 1968 at the First Baptist Church in Jamestown with Rev. H. Walter Trim, pastor, officiating.

Burial was in the family plot in Highland Home Cemetery in Jamestown.

A funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday, June 1, 2001, in Rose City Funeral Home for Walter C. Zimmerman, who died May 28 at age 80.

Mr. Zimmerman was born Jan 19, 1921, in Napoleon N.D., and moved to Portland in 1941. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps. For 32 years he was an accounting and business administrator for General Electric, retiring in 1978. He then worked for Independent Distributors for seven years. A member of Trinity Baptist Church, he married Marilyn Hillius in 1947.

Survivors include his wife; daughters, Edie Ireland and Lynn Zimmerman-Lind; sons, Greg and Doug; sisters, Alma McCollough, Edna Backhaus and Betty Deane; brothers, Alvin, Edward and Isador; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Interment in Rose City Cemetery. Remembrances to American Cancer Society.

Frances "Fran" Zinck, 80, Fargo, N.D., died Sunday, Jan. 20, 2008, at ManorCare, Fargo, after a long battle with cancer.

Frances Elaine McCommon was born July 19, 1927, in Jamestown, the daughter of Guy and Martha McCommon. She grew up and attended Jamestown Public Schools, graduating in 1945. She married Howard George Zinck on Nov. 28, 1947. They lived in Jamestown before moving to Fargo. She worked for Farmers Home Administration, Jamestown, and Northwestern Bell Telephone Co., before raising her family. She participated in Parent Teachers Associations of Washington School and Carl Ben Eielson Middle School, and served as president of each. She served as leader of Bluebirds and Campfire Girls and La Sertoma president. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Fargo, where she worked with youth groups, served as Sunday school teacher for many years and sang in the choir. She was also a member of Ladies Bridge Club for more than 50 years.

She is survived by her husband; three daughters, Charmelle (Glenn) Olson, Woodbury, Minn., Denice Rich, Manhattan, N.Y., and Barbara (Matt) Swantek, Owatonna, Minn.; a son, Daniel (Stephanie), West Fargo, N.D.; a brother, Donald (Patricia), Jamestown; three sisters, Darlene (Mick) Hogan and Florence (Aseop) Betsch, both Jamestown, and Evelyn (Lloyd) Hinchberger, Devils Lake, N.D.; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Raymond, Roger and Eugene; three sisters, Betty McCommon, Eleanor Anderson and Mildred Boelke; and a brother-in-law, Aesop Betsch.

Mark Teddy Zundel, 56, Evans, N.D., died Monday, June 30, 2008, at North Colorado Medical Center, Greeley, Colo.

Mr. Zundel was born Nov. 1, 1951, in Bowman, N.D., the son of Tafield and Virginia (Gilbertson) Zundel. He grew up on the family ranch near Medina, N.D. They moved to Colorado in 1967. In 1969 he graduated from Wasson High School, Colorado Springs. He moved to Limon and worked at the local grocery store and the Limon School District from 1970 to 1985. He moved to Oklahoma and worked as a custodian at the University of Oklahoma, Norman, Okla. He took computer classes at Oklahoma University and worked for a data processing company. He worked at Weldona School District and as a custodian for the Weld County government until health problems interrupted his work. He worked for Emergency Courier Services, Greeley. He was a member of Limon Jaycee’s. He enjoyed working on computers and fishing.

He is survived by his parents; two brothers, Dale (Katie), Canon City, Colo., and Dwight (Barbie), Greeley; and a sister, Julie (Dave) Ottem, Greeley.

Reinhold L. Zwicker, age 90, of Turtle Lake, ND, died Saturday, Nov. 29, 2008, at the Community Memorial Hospital in Turtle Lake.

Reinhold was born on Nov. 21, 1918, in Malcolm Township, rural Coleharbor, ND, to Gottfried and Elizabeth (Bastian) Zwicker. His elementary education was received at a rural school in the Coleharbor area. He graduated from Turtle Lake High School in 1938. Reinie attended one year at the University of North Dakota at Grand Forks and a second year at Minot State College.

On Aug. 10, 1940, he married Norrine Hanson in Burlington, Iowa. They moved to Peoria, IL, where Reinhold worked as a welder for the R.G. LeTourneau Company. Following three years in Illinois, Reinhold moved the family to Turtle Lake and began Zwicker Motor Company. In 1947, he signed a contract with the J.I. Case Co. and one year later with the Pontiac Motor Division. When the oil exploration started in North Dakota, he did welding for drilling rigs. In addition to selling Case farm equipment and Pontiac automobiles, he sold Conoco petroleum products, did many maintenance welding jobs for farmers, excavating of various types, raised grain crops and transplanted trees by machine.

Together with his son Mark, he began manufacturing agricultural equipment parts and attachments. Later, his son Ron joined them and "Zwibco," a new corporation, was formed. In operating Zwibco, they built and sold pontoon boats and serviced other boats. They were instrumental in developing Anchorage Marine, located south of Garrison at the Fort Stevenson State Park.

As an active member of the Turtle Lake community, Reinhold was instrumental in bringing a hospital to the community and served as president of the hospital board. He was on the Boy Scout board and was a member of the Turtle Lake Commercial Club and the Lions Club. Reinie played a major role in the creation of the City Park Board and served as its first president. In 1984, Reinhold retired and for three years he and Norrine lived between Texas, where they moved the boat factory, and Turtle Lake. Reinie and Norrine have been living in Turtle Lake since 1991. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where he served as a church elder and sang in the choir. Fishing and gardening, especially growing watermelons, apples and grapes were his hobby favorites.

Reinhold is survived by: his wife of 68 years, Norrine of Turtle Lake; daughter, Claudette (Benjamin) Harring of Weston, WI; two sons, Ronald (Carmen) Zwicker of Rochester, MN, and Mark (Debra) Zwicker of Mountain Home, AR; seven grandchildren, Bryce Harring, Brent Harring, Tiffany (Scott) Zwicker Eggers, Trina Zwicker, Megan (John) McLean, Matthew Zwicker, Ryan Zwicker; one great-grandson, Lucas Eggers; sisters, Elsie (Pat) D'Aurora of Follansbee, WV, Ruth Brandt of Tucson, AZ, and Dorothy Bettenhausen, Cambria, CA; brothers, Elmer (Lorraine) and Edward (Sylvia) Zwicker, both of Bismarck, ND; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services: Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2008, at 10:30 a.m. in Trinity Lutheran Church, Turtle Lake. Rev. Betty J. Stedman, officiating.
Interment: Turtle Lake Cemetery.
Visitation: Today from 3 to 7 p.m. at Goetz Funeral Home, Turtle Lake, and Wednesday, one hour prior to the funeral at the church.
