PENCOYD is a small but scattered Parish, six-and-a-half miles from Ross, lying some distance from the main road to Hereford, on the left. Sir H. Hoskyns is Lord of the Manor. The Church is an ancient plain stone edifice, with porch and small tower, that contains three bells; from the top and on the side of this tower are now sporting in wild luxuriance two trees, one a sycamore, the other one on the top apparently an elder tree. The living is a Perpetual Curacy, belonging to the Rev. Wm. Coke, of Llangarren, who officiates. In the Churchyard is a large square space, surrounded by iron railings, enclosing the tombs of the ancient family of the Palmer's of Pencoyd, and also one containing the remains of William Gyttings, surgeon, of Ross. The Rev. William Coke, Perpetual Curate; Mr. William Scrivens, Clerk and Sexton. Service - 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. alternately.
