"Despite his parents objections, Denis O'Hara volunteers his
services to the IRA after witnessing British aggression in his small
village of Clonmore. Denis's girlfriend, Moira is left alone to ward off
the lustful advances of Beecher a seedy poitin maker and informer.
Beecher eventually succeeds in getting Moira into his house where he
imprisons and attempts to rape her. However she is saved by Denis's
intervention and the two return home to marry. Irish Destiny is the first
fictionalized account of the War of Independence and the last silent film
to be produced in Ireland [...] A love story constructed around the
events of the war, the film incorporates actuality footage of the black
and tans, the burning of Cork City and of the Customs house, while there
is also a reconstruction of the mass escape from the Curragh. These
events however, are not presented in chronological order. The release of
Irish Destiny coincided with the tenth anniversary of the war and was
enthusiastically received by an Irish audience but was one of only five
films to be banned by the British Board of Censors in 1926. The film was
re-cut minus all the scenes from the Black and Tans and re- released
under the title of Mother Ireland in 1928. (Taken from "Irish
Destiny," by the Irish Film Board.)

"Home News" - Death of Mr. Cullinan - "Francis X.
Cullinan, Second Year Philosopher, was on a picnic with four companions
on September 25th. After their lunch about a camp-fire, he walked with a
companion some twenty yards or so up-river, to the beach below the
cascades. His companion expressed his intention of lying down for a short
rest at the edge of the woods that fringe the beach. Mr. Cullinan said he
also would rest, but on the open beach in the sun, and later might take a
swim. At about 5pm, when the picknickers assembled to return home, he was
missed. His clothes were found on the beach near the woods. At 8.00
o'clock his body was recovered from the river, some ten yards off the
beach, in a deep pocket of water. First aid was applied, but at 8.20,
Doctor Shipley arrived while the community was reciting the rosary, and
pronounced him dead of a cerebral hemorrhage. The body was carried to
Mariottsville, thence to the Woodstock station on a hand car, thence to
the house. The funeral was held on Sept. 28th. --- On September 25th,
1618, St. John Berchmans finished his Novitiate and took his vows. Thus
Mr. Francis X. Cullinan, a very close imitator of this great Saint, was
called, we trust, to a happy eternity on the anniversary of his patron's
vow-day." [Taken from: "The Woodstock Letters, A Record";
Vol. LIX, Woodstock College, 1930.]

My greatgrandfather, James Joseph Cullinan (his Mom was a McMahon) was
born around 1866 and was a General in the British Army with many
decorated medals that we still have in the family. He came over to
America in the late teens and had 16 children with my greatgrandmother,
Margaret Houlihan of County Limerick. Cannot find any references to this
particular clan of the Cullinan(e)s who came over from County Clare.

Notes:
In reading Family Mystery No. 16, I noticed that Ellen Callinan lived at
No. 3 Trinity Place, in Dublin, which means that at the time of her
letter, she would have been a close neighbour of my ancestor Bartholomew
Fallon, who lived at No. 6 Trinity Place. While I can add nothing to help
solve the mystery, I can tell you a little about Trinity Place, a street
which no longer exists, for your possible interest.
Trinity Place was a court of 21 elegant townhouses built during the
eighteenth century, and located off Dame Lane, between Trinity Street and
Great George Street South, in the heart of Dublin, and just steps away
from Trinity College, Dublin Castle, and the Irish Parliament Buildings.
After the Act of Union was passed in 1801, most of the original owners
moved away, and by the time of Ellen's letter in 1842, the majority of
the 21 houses had become multi family tenement houses.
While the 1851 Census records did not survive, an enumerator's re-cap for
the Heads of Households in Trinity Place has survived, and indicates
that Ellen Callinan no longer lived there, but six other families were
living in that particular house by this time.
In 1879 The Corporation of Dublin targetted small courts with narrow
approaches, such as Trinity Place, as candidates for removal, due to
unsanitary conditions, and Trinity Place was dismantled ca. 1880. A
Theatre Company now occupies the land.
As mentioned, this does nothing to help solve your mystery, but since
during my research your reference to Trinity Place was the only
acknowledgement found that such a street ever existed, thought I would
add this information.
My compliments on an excellent website.

Sister Patricius Cullinane OSF was a member of the School Sisters of St.
Francis, headquartered in Milwaukee, WI. She died in the early 1980's, I
believe, and had (has) a twin sister, Sister Mary Jane Cullinane OSF. I
do not know if she is still living. I think both were from Chicago; they
both taught at schools in Chicago, Sr. Patrcius (whose birth name was
Patricia) at Alvernia High School and at St. Benedict's High School.
