Church Record for the year 1809
January Second Saturday 1809. Church met at Big
Spring and after worship proceeded to business.
1st John Nolin excluded for going off in disorder and for publick transgression
2nd Bro. James Sims and Bro. Zachariah McCubbin chosen as deacons of this
church.
3rd Mary Fitzgarrel dismist by letter.
February Second Saturday 1809. Church met at Big
Spring and after worship proceeded to business.
1st Opened a door for the reception of members and received Elizabeth Harper by
letter.
2nd Appointed Brethren Is. Sims and Wm. Weaver to cite brother Mercurius Cook
and Sister Rachel Cook to attend their meetings.
March Second Saturday 1809. Church met at Big
Spring and after worship proceeded to business.
1st Opened a door for the reception of members and received Elijah Hurst by
letter.
2nd The Reference relative to Bro. Mercurius Cook and Sister Rachel Cook
continued.
Tilda Slate deceast March the 13th 1809.
April Second Saturday 1809. Church met at Big
Spring and after worship proceeded to business.
1st Brother Mercurius Cook came forward and the reference dismist.
2nd Appointed Brethren Joab Hill, Isaac Lane and John Evans to labour in a
difficulty between Bro. Joseph Neal and Bro. Wm Weaver respecting the division
of their land and the line they shall make for to be a decision.
May Second Saturday 1809. Church met at Big
Spring and after worship proceeded to business.
1st Received Susannah Whitehead by letter.
2nd The reference continued in consequence of the line the committee run not
being satisfactory to both parties.
June Second Saturday 1809
Church met at Big Spring and after worship
proceeded to business.
1st Appointed Brethren Joab Hill, Isaac Lane and John Evans to finish the
business of their appointment of April meeting 1809.
July Second Saturday 1809
Church met at Big Spring and after worship
proceeded to business.
1st Joab Hill, Isaac Lane and John Evans releast from surveying of the land
between Bro. Wm Weaver and Bro. Joseph Neal.
2nd The Church yet retains the wrongs stated against them last meeting viz: Bro.
Weaver wrong in running into Bro. Neal's field when he surveyed his land and
aiming to hold it by his survey without satisfying Bro. Neal for his improvement
and Bro. Neal wrong in forwarning Bro. Weaver from clearing without having his
land surveyed or knowing whether the land was his own or not and for making use
of hard expressions against the church and the committee appointed to run the
line between them and also against Bro. Weaver and for retaining hard spirits
against each other.
3rd. Appointed Bro. McCubbin and Bro. Harrison to cite them to next meeting.
4th John Nolen received by recantation.
5th John Nolen dismist by letter.
6th Appointed Bro. Isaac and Sister Lane to cite Wm Constant to attend next
meeting.
7th On Sunday morning Bro. Constant with a few more members got together and got
through the business of his citation.
August Second Saturday 1809
Church met at Big Spring and after worship
proceeded to business.
1st Received Henderson's Fillis by letter.
2nd The reference relative to Bro. Weaver and Bro. Neal referd to next meeting.
3rd Bro. Joab Hill and Bro. George Stubblefield appointed as delegates to the
Association.
September Second Saturday 1809. Church met at Big
Spring and after worship proceeded to business.
1st The church thinks it right that brother Weaver give up to Bro. Joseph Neal
that part of the land lying inside of Bro. Joseph Neal's fence and that Bro.
Neal pay him one dollar and 25 cents per acre for the same.
2nd Continued the reference to next meeting.
3rd The Association letter read and approved.
October Second Saturday 1809. Church met at Big
Spring and after worship proceeded to business.
1st Dismist Sarah Harris, Robert and Nancy Southern by letter.
2nd Bro. Joseph Neal made satisfaction for the wrongs stated against him in July
meeting 1809.
3rd Continued the reference to next meeting.
November Second Saturday 1809. Church met at Big
Spring and after worship proceeded to business.
1st Continued the reference relative to Bro. Weaver and Bro. Neal to next
meeting.
December Second Saturday 1809. Church met at Big
Spring and after worship proceeded to business.
1st Continued the reference relative to Bro. Weaver and Bro. Neal to next
meeting.
