Church Record for the Year 1837
January Second Saturday 1837. Church met at Big
Spring and after worship proceeded to business.
1st Brother N. S. McDowel chosen moderator.
2nd The reference relative to Bro. Edmond Cardwell Continued to next meeding.
Brother William Marcum and Daniel Marcum appointed to cite brother Cardwell to
attend next meeting.
3rd Appointed Bro. Thomas Hurst and William Ritter to cite Bro. Ransom Day to
attend next meeting to answer to reports that are in circulation about him.
February Second Saturday 1837. Church met at Big
Spring and after worship proceeded to business.
1st Edmond Cardwell excluded for making use of profane language and refusing to
obey the call of the church.
2nd Ransom Day junior excluded for drunkness and neglecting to obey the call of
the church.
Appointed Brethren Crisley Plank and Thompson Hurst to cite Brother Flemming
Keen to attend next meeting to answer certain reports that is in circulation
about him.
Lucinda Cook dismist by letter.
Orleany Ritter received by letter.
March Second Saturday 1837. Church met at Big
Spring and after worship proceeded to business.
1st The reference relative to Fleming Keen defered to next meeting and the same
Brethren appointed to cite him to attend next meeting.
2nd Appointed Brethren Isaac C. Lane and Isaac Sanders to cite Brother Joseph
Jonson to attend next meeting to answer to reports that is in circulation about
him.
3rd The difficulty relative to Bro. William Hurst taken up and defered to next
meeting.
April Second Saturday 1837. Church met at Big
Spring and after worship proceeded to business.
1st The reference relative to Joseph Jonson defered to next meeting.
2nd William Hurst excluded for killing Jefferson Berry as he Hurst said he
thought it was the only means he had of saveing his own life and not having a
proper travel of mind on the same as the church believes and a contradiction
existing between him and Brother Larkin Harrel, Isaac Sanders and Brother George
Rose.
3rd The reference relative to Flemming Keen defered to next meeting. Brother
Samuel Day and Charles Hurst appointed to cite him to attend next meeting.
May Second Saturday 1837. Church met at Big
Spring and after worship proceeded to business.
1st Madderson Neil returned his letter of dismission and is received in
fellowship.
2nd The reference relative to Joseph Jonson defered to next meeting.
3rd The reference relative to Fleming Keen defered to next meeting. Brethren
Hirum Hurst and Jessee Evans appointed to cite him to attend next meeting.
June Second Saturday 1837. Church met at Big
Spring and after worship proceeded to business.
First the reference relative to Joseph Jonson defered to next meeting.
2nd Flemming Keen excluded for not attending meeting when he knew the church was
hurt with him on account of some reports that was in circulation about him.
July Second Saturday 1837. Church met at Big
Spring and after worship proceeded to business.
1st The reference relative to Joseph Jonson defered to next meeting. Brethren
appointed Samuel Day, John Bartlet, Mercurius Cook and Hirum Hurst Delegets to
the Association.
August Second Saturday 1837. Church met at Big
Spring and after worship proceeded to business.
1st The reference relative to Joseph Jonson defered to next meeting.
2nd Nancy Hill, Rodah Hunt, Catherine Venable and Hester Hill dismist by letter.
September Second Saturday 1837. Church met at Big
Spring and after worship proceeded to business.
1st Prior Huddleston returned his letter of dismission and was welcomed to his
seat with us again.
2nd Joseph Johnson came forward and gave satisfaction.
3rd Joseph Johnson dismist by letter.
4th Hirum Hurst appointed to write to Sister Mary Ann Mitchel to know the
feeling of her mind in moveing out of the bounds of the church without applying
for a letter of dismission.
October Second Saturday 1837. Church met at Big
Spring.
November Second Saturday 1837. Church met at Big
Spring and after worship proceeded to business.
1st Elizabeth Collins excluded for contradicting herself before the church and
for retaining money in her hands found in some clothes she was washing longer
than the church thinks she ought to have done.
2nd Appointed Brethren Thomas Hurst and William Ritter to cite Bro. Flemming
Frazier to attend next meeting.
3rd Sister Mary Ann Mitchel dismist by letter.
4th Received a petition from Mountain Creek. In answer to said petition we
appoint our Brethren Samuel Day, Hirum Hurst and Squire I. Harper to attend
them.
5th Sister Rachel Huddleston returned her letter of dismission.
December Second Saturday 1837. Church met at Big
Spring and after worship proceeded to business.
1st Excluded Flemmon Frazier for drunkness and for neglecting to obey the call
of the church.
2nd Joseph Priddy and Susannah Priddy received by letter.
3rd William Ritter and Hirum Hurst appointed to cite Sister Mildred Cardwell to
attend next meeting to answer to reports that is in circulation about her.
