Church Record for the Year 1846
January 2nd Saturday 1846. Church met at Big
Spring and after prayer set for business.
1st Brother Daniel Arnwine excluded for the above charges and not obeying the
call of the church when called upon.
2nd Bro. James Carpenter excluded for the above charges and not obeying the call
of the church when called upon.
3rd Church covenant and Rules of Decorum read and unanimously received by the
church.
4th Appointed Sister Elizabeth Johnston and Winny Day to go and enquire into the
situation of Sister Mays about her sustenance for life and report to next
meeting.
5th Appointed Brethren Samuel Day and James Johnston to go and enquire of Bro.
Ransom Day if he is a suffering for any of the necessaries of life and report to
next meeting.
February 2nd Saturday 1846. Church met at Big
Spring and after preaching set for business.
1st The Church agrees to attend to Sister Susannah Mays necessities and to put
it in Jesse Evans hands to give to her as she kneeds it.
3rd The church agrees to administer to Bro. Ransom Day some of the necessaries
of life and to take it to Nancy Day's.
4th The church agrees to send for Bro. Abraham Davis to know the reason why he
does not attend his church meeting and appointed Brethren Simpson Hurst and
Sparkman Smith to cite him to attend next meeting.
5th The church agrees to send for Brother James Ritter to know the reason why he
dose not attend his church meeting and appointed Brethren Jesse Evans and John
Breeding to cite him to attend next meeting.
March 2nd Saturday 1846. Church met at Big Spring
and after preaching set for business.
1st Bro. Abraham Davis case laid over til next meeting.
2nd Brother James Ritter excluded for not obeying the call of the church when
called upon and saying the church was doing rong in closeing her doors against
other denominations and not dealing with her.
3rd The church agrees to appoint her May meeting for her communion season in
each and every year.
April 2nd Saturday 1846. Church met at Big Spring
and after preaching set for business.
1st Bro. Abraham Davis excluded for absenting himself from the church and
declaring he did not believe the doctrine held by the church and saying he
believed another doctrine and wishing the church to erace his name from the
record.
2nd Dismissed Sister Olly Cheak by letter.
May 2nd Saturday 1846. Church met at Big Spring
and after preaching set for business.
July 2nd Saturday 1846. Church met at Big Spring
and after preaching set for business.
1st Received Sister Olly Cheak by letter.
2nd Appointed delegates to the Association viz: Samuel Day, Nathan S. McDowell,
James Bunch and William Evans.
3rd The church agree to send their Deacons and Bro. James Bunch to see Sister
Nancy Lively and do what they think is wright and report to next meeting.
4th The church agrees to rebuild the chimney over again and also hang the window
shutters and appointed Brethren Samuel Day, Jesse Evans and William Evans
commissioners to superintend the work.
August 2nd Saturday 1846. Church met at Big
Spring and after Preaching set for business.
1st The Brethren appointed to go and see Sister Nancy Lively reported they did
not think she was asuffering at present.
2nd Association letter read and approbated.
3rd A charge lifted against Sister Clary Barnard for leaving her husband and
other conduct after leaving of him and appointed Bro. Thompson Hurst and wife
and Sister Olly Cheak to cite her to attend next meeting.
September 2nd Saturday 1846. Church met at Big
Spring and after Preaching set for business.
1st Made way for the reception of members and received none.
2nd Took up the charge against Sister Clary Barnard and after hearing her
account of it agrees as Bro. Barnard is a member of Cedar Fork Church to write a
friendly letter to said church to examine the case and to meet with us at our
Nov. meeting to dispose of the same according to the Gospel and agree to appoint
Brethren William Bartlet, James Bunch, William Laffoon, William Sanders and
William Evans to bear said letter to Cedar Fork Church. The case of Sister Clary
Barnard laid over to November Meeting.
October 2nd Saturday 1846. Church met at Big
Spring and after Preaching set for business.
1st Made way for the reception of members and received none.
November 2nd Saturday 1846. Church met at Big
Spring and after Preaching set for business.
1st Chose Bro. James Long moderator for the day.
2nd Received Elizabeth Cunningham by letter.
3rd Took up the case of Sister Clary Barnard and laid it over untill next
meeting and requested her to attend next meeting.
4th The church agrees to administer to Sister Nancy Lively's kneedsessities and
to put it in Bro. James Johnston's hands.
December 2nd Saturday 1846. Church met at Big
Spring and after prayer set for business.
1st Made way for the reception of members and received 2 by letter.
2nd Received Bro. Elder Hirum Hurst by letter.
3rd Rec'd Sister Fanny Hurst by letter.
4th Took up the case of Sister Clary Barnard and after examineing the case
agrees to write to our sister Cedar Fork Church to reconsider the case of
Brother Johnathan Barnard and to meet us at our April meeting and appointed
Brethren Hiram Hurst, Samuel Day, Joel Ritter, William Laffoon, Jesse Evans,
William Marcum, Larkin Harrel and N. S. McDowell delegates to bear our letter.
5th We agree that Israel Huddleston may teach the present school in which he is
engaged for a period of time not exceeding twelve months from this time
excepting the church may want the use of the house for worship provided that he
opens the door only for himself to teach a common English school and keeps the
house in good order and the Benches clean with everything belonging to the house
as it is now excepting the natural decay and wear of the house and to make good
and anything that may be broken or damaged except that which arises from the
natural decay or proper use of the house. He is to arrange the fire so as to
preclude the possibility of the house taking fire from the wood on fire rolling
to the floor and he is further against the nineteenth inst. to pay to Jesse
Evans seven dollars and fifty cents and it is distinctly to be understood that
the privilege of the house is only given for the time above named and on the
aforementioned conditions and that whenever any of the above conditions are
violated or not complied with the said Huddleston is to give up the key and
house on the application of Samuel Day, Jesse Evans and William Evans or of any
two of them and further said Huddleston is to leave the key of the house on
every Friday evening with Simpson Hurst.
