MINUTES OF BIG SPRING PRIMITIVE BAPTIST CHURCH

Church Record for 1882

[there are no records for January or February 1882]

March first Saturday 1882. Church met at Evans school house. After preaching the church was called to order.
First tuck up the case of Brother Dockey Bullen and excluded him for drinking spiritous liquors and not obeying the calls of the church.
Second appointed Brethren David Hewet & John Simmons to go and talk to Brother John Eppison and cite him to attend at next meeting and answer to some reports that is against him for getting drunk. Nathan Hurst mod.

April first Saturday 1882. Church met at Big Spring. After preaching the church was called to order.
First opened the door and received Sister Mary Breeding by experience & the day following was baptised by Eld. Nathan Hurst.
Second a charge was lifted against Brother John Eppison & excluded him for drunkenness & not obeying the calls of the church.
Third agreed to petition to our sister churches and Mountain Creek, Dotson Creek & Union for their ministers & deacons & invites the brethren & sisters to be with us at our next meeting on a sacramental occasion. Done by order of the church. D. H. Rosenbalm clerk. Nathan Hurst mod.

May first Saturday 1882. Church met at Big Spring. After preaching the church was called to order.
First some of the brethren agreed to see Brother John Rosenbalm and cite him to attend his next meeting & answer to some reports that is against him. Done by order of the church. Nathan Hurst mod.

June first Saturday 1882. Church met at Big Spring. After preaching the church was called to order.
First there was a charge lifted against Brother John Rosenbalm and excluded him for using profain language & not obeying the calls of the church.
Second appointed Sister Jane Hurst & Sister Rebecca Hurst to go & see Sister Manda Hurst, cite her to attend at next meeting and answer to some reports there is against her.

Hetty Killion departed this life June 9th 1882. Was a member of Big Spring church in good standing in full fellowship with us. She leaves her brethren and friends to mourn her loss. We mourn not as those without hope.

July first Saturday 1882. Church met at Big Spring. After preaching the church was called to order.
First opened the door for the reception of members.
Second lifted a charge against Sister Manda Hurst for not obeying the calls of the church and for not satisfying the church of unchristian conduct that was reported against her and was excluded for the same.
Third there was a petition from our sister church at Dotson Creek requesting our ministers & deacons & inviting the brethren & sisters to be with them at their July meeting on a sacramental occasion which was granted. Done by order of the church. D. H. Rosenbalm clerk. Nathan Hurst mod.

August first Saturday 1882. Church met at Big Spring. After preaching the church was called to order.
First chose Brother David Hewett clerk pro tem.
2nd agreed to letter and delegates to the Association & appointed these our brethren to wit: Elder Nathan Hurst, P. L. Evans, Hiram Hurst, David Hewett & Daniel Green to bare the letter & the clerk to prepare the letter against our next meeting.

Sept. first Saturday 1882. Church met at Big Spring. After preaching the church was called to order.
First the Association letter was read and received & also agreed to send a query in our letter asking advice of the Association what ought to be done with a church holding members in full fellowship belonging to freemasons. D. H. Rosenbalm clerk. Nathan Hurst mod.

October first Saturday 1882. Church met. After preaching no business was done.

November first Saturday 1882. Church met. After preaching no business was done.

December first Saturday 1882. Church met at Big Spring. After preaching the church was called to order. No other business was done.

James Bunch departed this life December 16th 1882. He was a member of Big Spring Church in good standing in full fellowship with us, known by all who knew him to be strong in the faith. We mourn his loss but not as those without hope. He left evidence that he was one of the circumscribed that worshipped God threw the spirit, rejoiced in Christ Jesus putting no confydence in the flesh.
