Genealogy

My experience in genealogy began with a package of Augustine family documentation that was compiled by several family members over the course of time and given to me by my dear cousin Carol Rodgers Sigsbee. With this as a motivator and being fortunate to have several business trips to Salt Lake City I was able to discover several links to early Connecticut on both my paternal and maternal lines. The emigration of the Augustine family from Bavaria to Philadelphia and on to Indiana and Iowa are well documented. The Barnes Genealogy includes significant roots in Colonial Connecticut, with a rich history of participation in the Revolutionary War and the settling of the northeastern United States.

More research uncovered a wonderful history that speaks to all of the accidents of faith and fate that ultimately result in the unique history and birth of each of us.

More details were found in family records that were in my father's possession, including a family bible that was printed in 1803 and had Barnes, Broas, Hammond and Newell information, primarily from upstate New York.

Subsequent visits to Litchfield, CT, Newark Valley, and other New York locations have provided more details.

Each new branch provides more opportunity to encounter more living relatives, and my research has lead me to many cousins with the common interest of genealogy. Many of these cousins are very special human beings, and have generously shared their information. I am especially grateful to Elizabeth (Betty) Barnes Roberts of Yuma, AZ who has pointed me to a branch of the Barnes family that moved to Virginia during the revolutionary war era. She shared a transcript of a journal written by Enos Barnes, Jr., who served in the Connecticut regiment for the duration of the Revolutionary War. Enos Barnes, Jr. was my 4G grandfather. In 1810 Enos moved to Triangle, NY and the Barnes family began a long history in upstate NY. There remains a large contingent of Barnes family members in that area.

There is a long way to go, but the contents here will describe my findings to date and some of the treasures of heritage that I have found along the way. Below you will find links to genealogy reports and some other documents that I have collected over the years. Not all sources have been verified, so no guarantees of accuracy. I will work to confirm and cite my resources, but please feel free to contact me with corrections and additions.
