Amelung GlassHTML Version American glass produced from 1784 to about 1795 by John Frederick Amelung, a native of Bremen in Germany. Financed by German and American promoters, Amelung founded the New Bremen Glassmanufactory near Frederick, Md., U.S., and attempted to establish a self-sufficient community, importing glassworkers and other craftsmen from Germany. The enterprise was encouraged by such men as George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and Benjamin Franklin, and in 1789 a duty on window and other glass, the first protective tariff passed under the new U.S. Constitution, was proposed.

Amelung Bottle Brings $24,200 HTML Version At the January 16, 1996, mail and phone bid auction held by Collector's Sales and Services of Middletown, Rhode Island, a rare bottle most probably made by the prime producer of European-quality glass in America in the 18th century, the New Bremen, Maryland, glass house of John Frederick Amelung, brought $24,200.

Johanna (Bodenstein) Amelung Death Certificate.   Born February 09, 1833 in Hahausen, Braunschweig, Germany. Died December 04, 1918 in Pilot Knob (Iron County), Missouri during the great Influenza epidemic.

Edward Amelung Death Certificate.   Died March 14, 1960 in Bakersfield, Kern County, California.

John Amelung Death Certificate.  Lived to be 100 years old!

William Amelung Death Certificate.   Died May 13, 1920 in Granite City, Madison County, Illinois. Family stories said he died from falling off a runaway horse. The death certificate indicates Asthma as the probable cause.

Herman Amelung, Sr. Death Certificate.  Born February 26, 1874, died February 22, 1957 in Pilot Knob, Missouri.

Martin Amelung Death Certificate.  Died November 27, 1911 in Pilot Knob, MO from Diptheria.

Francis Vernon Amelung Death Certificate.  Died July 20, 1916 which is the same day that his brother Andrew was born.

Hattie Amelung Death Certificate.  Born June 25, 1916 in Pilot Knob, MO and died August 24, 1936 in St. Louis (city), MO.

Herman Amelung, Jr. Death Certificate.  Born October 20, 1910 in Pilot Knob, MO and died August 05, 1973 in St. Louis, MO.
