The Thornton's
of Yorkshire, England: William Thornton was born 1291 in Yorkshire,
England, and died 1333 in Yorkshire, England. He married Isobell Newton. She was born
1294. This covers ONLY the England ancestors down to William I, of Gloucester
County, Virginia.
Thomas Thornton of
Duplin, North Carolina: He is "believed" to be the son of Mark Thornton
and grandson of Luke Thornton but I'm not so sure. This is my line.
William Thornton I
was born circa 1620 in Yorkshire, England, and died 1708 in Cod's Creek, Stafford County,
Virginia. He married (1) Avice Russell between 1640 - 1642 in Rappahannock County,
Virginia. She was born circa 1620, and died Bef. March 27, 1648. He married (2) Elizabeth
Rowland March 27, 1648 in York County, Virginia (called Gloucester after 1651). She was
born 1627 in Virginia.
Andrew
Caiphas "Cape" Thornton was born 4 September 1855 in Vernon,
Fayette County, Alabama. He was the son of James M. Thornton and Lucinda Aldridge. His
mother died a short time after he was born, and he was reared by his maternal
grandparents. He is said to have married Mary ??? in the 1870's. It is not known where the
marriage took place nor what happened to Mary. He was in Lee County, Mississippi in 1879
and in Monroe County by 1880. He married Franky Davidson 23 December 1880, but she died
shortly after they were married. On 10 November 1887, he married Berniece Estelle
"Bennie" Duke. They had twelve children.
John Thornton
was born in 1472. He married Dorothy Chelsam. Several generations down is Luke
Thornton (Henry7, Henry6, Henry5,
Henry4, Thomas3, Richard2, John1) born circa 1655. He married Anne (--?--). He died in 1725/26. [I
believe that Luke Thornton is NOT a son of William of Gloucester County, Va. as many
people have listed and this site offers a reasonable amount of data to confirm this. --
