Mr. Harlan E. Hall was born in Muskingum County, Ohio in 1870.  He attended the country schools, afterward teaching in them for six years.  He then took the teachers' course at the National Normal University at Lebanon, receivin the degree Ph.B.  Afterwards he attended Scio College and Boston University.  After teaching Science in East Liverpool High School for three years he was elected teacher of Science in the Mansfield High School and two years later was promoted to the principalship.  Mr. Hall, in addition to devoting considerable time to Summer Schools and Teachers' Institutes, has found time for the editing and publication of an extensive volume in the ten-volume series on the "Natural History of Ohio".
