Minnie Verdella Newport

Lima
MINNIE VERDELLA NEWPORT,
91, died at 12:55 p.m. Oct. 28, 2004,
at Lima Memorial Hospital surrounded by her family.
She
was born July 23, 1913, in Pineville, Ky., to
Leonard F. and Mary M. Money Mason, who preceded her in death. On Oct. 8, 1932,
in Pineville, she married the Rev. Segal Newport, who died in 1991.
Mrs.
Newport was a homemaker. She was a dedicated and supportive member of the Lima
Missionary Baptist Church. She was a loving and caring mother and grandmother.
She was profound and dedicated in raising her special son Vincent.
Survivors
include a son, D. Vincent Newport at home; four daughters, Irene (Billy Ray)
Neal, Lois Phipps, and Imogene (Carl)
Atkins, all of Cridersville, and Karen (Anthony) Wilder of Wapakoneta; a
daughter-inlaw, Garnett Newport McCoy; 18 grandchildren, 53 greatgrandchildren
and seven greatgreat-grandchildren; a sister, Rowena (Junior) Neal
of Alger; and four brothers, Orrville Mason, Bodie Mason, H.L. Mason and Tony
Mason, all of Lima.
She
was preceded in death by two sons, James L. Newport and Clifford Newport; three
sisters, Mellie Fuson, Audra Mason and Liddia Oliver; two brothers, Joe Mason
and Drew Mason; and a son-in-law, Ray Phipps.
Services
will begin at 2 p.m. Monday at Lima Missionary Baptist Church. The Revs. Terry
Brock and Denny Hunter will officiate. Burial will be in Fairmount Cemetery.
Friends
may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Siferd Funeral Home, Westwood Chapel.
Memorial
