The Burden Ironworks, South Troy, New York, circa 1886

Charles E. Luke was born in Albany County, New York on October 30th in 1864. His family moved across the Hudson River to South Troy in Rensselaer County in the early 1870's. Charles was employed full time at the Burden Ironworks in South Troy by the age of 15. Charles married Nellie Pickett, the daughter of Irish immigrants in 1898. Charles and Nellie raised six children at their residence on Willis Street in South Troy. Charles was still employed at the Burden Ironworks at the time of his death in March of 1934. He was nearing seventy years of age and at the time, working as a night watchman. Charles and Nellie Luke are buried at Saint Mary's Cemetery in Troy, New York in unmarked graves.
