George Cheater(George 1) born aprox.
1830 in Chamberlains, Nfld. He is George Cheater jr.. Married Joanna Jane Westcott of St. John’s. Joanna Jane Westcott was born August 22, 1840,
her parents were William Westcott and Joanna Griffiths.
Date of marriage
November 17th, 1859.
Notes on George: He was a fisherman. It looks like he and Joanna lived in St. John’s for some time, as their children (at least some) have been listed as born in St. John’s. Also, George isn’t listed in the 1871 directory for Chamberlains. He isn’t in the St. John’s directory either, but maybe they were living with a member of Joanna’s family. George died at age 81, on January 16th, 1911. He is buried with Joanna in the Topsail Anglican Cemetery.
Notes on Joanna Jane: She was named after her mother. She was left property either in St. John’s or Chamberlains by her mother in her mothers Will. She died at age 56, on January 11th, 1896. She is buried with George in the Topsail Anglican Cemetery.
