Will of Henry Garland 1828
 
In the name of God Amen, I Henry Garland Senr of Lower Island Cove, 
Conception Bay in the Island of Newfoundland make this my last Will and Testament,
I resign my soul to its Creator, in all humble hopes of its future happiness as in the disposal
of a beings infinitely good, as to my body my Will is that it be buried in a Christianlike manner.
I hereby make and appoint my particular friends John Barclay Physician and William Broderick my Executors.
 
1stly I bequeath to my beloved wife the possession of this Fishing Room and Plantation
during her natural life and then to be equally divided between James and John
my two sons and to them and their heirs forever, that is to say James is to have my part
of the old stage, with the Western part of the Flake as far as the 
old usual bridge, with
the Cellar and all the lower ground with the new House, and one 
fourth part of the Upper Garden; and to my son John I bequeath my part of 
the little stage, and from the usual old bridge as far as Robert Normore’s Room,
together with the Fish Store, and three quarters of the upper ground, and Stacks Plantation to
be equally divided between them.
 
2ndly To my son Henry I bequeath a spot of land situate near Sparks house formerly purchased from Christopher Harris, with my Bible.
 
3rdly To my son Thomas a large standing chest, and a pair of silver buckles.
 
4thly To my son William a feather bed and bedding.
 
5thly The residue of the furniture now remaining to be at the disposal of my beloved wife.
 
6thly My two sons already mentioned in this my will, James and John to remain with their mother during her life and provide for the two younger children.
 
This is my last Will and Testament signed sealed and delivered in the presence of us, whose names are hereunto subscribed this 17th day of May 1823.

I hereby certify that the execution of the foregoing Will by
Henry Garland was proved before me by William Broderick the subscribing witness
thereto, on the fourth day of June one thousand eight hundred and twenty eight, 
and the same is hereby actually registered by me this day.

Newfoundland this twenty fifth day of July in the year One thousand eight hundred
