The sons of families who lived in Johnson, Arkansas, served in the military forces, particularly in World War II. As I find newspaper clippings regarding those who served, I will post them here.

Cpl. Wickware Awarded
Unit Service Plaque
A Ninth Air Force Service Command Unit, Germany: Corporal Clyde F. Wickware, 34, Springdale, is a veteran member of the 1808th Ordnance company, aviation, which has been awarded the meritorious unit service plaque for performance of exceptionally difficult tasks and superior performance of normal duties in England and the liberated countries of Europe. Overseas 18 months, Cpol. Wickware has served continously at advanced air fields in the United Kingdom, France, Belgium and Germany. He has been awarded three bronze battle stars for participation in the Normandy, northern France and Germany campaigns. The ordinance company is part of a mobile air service team, of the Ninth Air Force Service Command, which has the job of supplying, maintaining and repairing aircraft and equipment used by the famous "Hell Hawk" fighter group. Ordinance is particularly concerned with ammunition, bombs and bomb fuses, weapons and automotive equipment. Corporal Wickware is a truck driver in ammunition section of the ordnance organization. Prior to entering military service he was emplyed at Consolidated Steel Co. His wife, Mrs. Josephine Wickware, lives at R. F. D. 4, Springdale.

[undated newspaper clipping] Two more boys from this immediate vicinity have joined the Navy. Earl Richard Bookout of Johnson and Elmer Lee Leverett of Springdale, were enlisted in Class V-6 at the Navy Recruiting station in Little Rock last Thursday as apprentice Seamen and were transferred to the training station at San Diego, California for duty and training.
