CARDWELL, Andrew J. - Andrew Johnson Cardwell, 84, resident of Johnson for the past 52 years, died Sunday morning at Washington County Hospital after two months illness. Mr. Cardwell was born August 25, 1867 at Zion, the son of Kirk and Matherine Cardwell. He was a member of the Methodist Church and was superintendent of the Ozark Lime Company at Johnson for 40 years. His wife, Nancy Lavinia Cardwell, preceding him in death in January of 1944. Surviving him are six daughters, Mrs. Carrie Luper, Johnson, Mrs. Flora Luper of Fayetteville, Mrs. Frankie Reed of Fayetteville, Mrs. Pearl Kelly, Bonham, Texas, Mrs. Mildred Cassat of Johnson, and Mrs. Ruth Steward of Tulsa, Okla.; one son, Burl Cardwell of Little Rock; 16 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren; one brother, Estell Cardwell of Twin Falls, Idaho; one half brother, John Horne of Oakland, Calif.; one sister, Mrs. Mary Cooper of Springdale; two step brothers, Mart Horne and Sam Horne, both of Springdale; one step sister, Mrs. Lizzie Banks of Fayetteville. Funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock in the chapel of Nelson's Funeral Home by the Rev. Ewell Logue, assisted by the Rev. Will Smith. Burial will be in the Zion cemetery under the direction of Nelson's Funeral Home.

CAZAT, Pete - Uncle Pete Cazat is seriously ill with pneumonia and it is doubtful whether he will be able to resist the attack. Later - Mr. Cazat passed away Monday night. The remains will be held until Saturday awaiting the arrival of relatives, when they will be interred in the cemetery at Mt. Comfort. [Springdale News, 17 Jan 1908]

CAZAT, Mrs. Pete - Uncle Pete Cazat was buried at Mt. Comfort Saturday evening. Mrs. Cazat is now seriously ill with pneumonia and her life is slowly ebbing away. Later - Mrs. Cazat died Monday night and the remains were laid to rest Tuesday beside those of her husband. [Springdale News 24 Jan 1908]

CLAYPOOL, Beulah - Mrs. Beulah Beatrice West Claypool, 53, died November 17 at 8:55 a.m. at her home in the Stony Point community, following an illness of several months. She was born August 2, 1899 in Washington County, the daughter of Ben and Haley West. She was a member of Sycamore Baptist church. Survivors are her husband, Samuel Claypool of the home; one son, Joe E. Claypool of Springdale; one grandson, Glen Claypool; one sister, Mrs. Paul Teague of Johnson; two brothers, Earl and Carl West of Springdale. Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Sycamore Baptist church with Rev. Edward Smith and Rev. O.L. Lierly officiating. Burial will be in Stuckey cemetery under direction of Wasson funeral home.

CLAYPOOL, Carrie (from Johnson) - The news of the sad death of Mrs. Carrie Claypoole will shock her many friends. Mrs. Claypoole was burning some grass in her yard at her home in Muskogee, I.T. on Saturday, Dec. 16, when the flames caught on her clothing and before the fire could be extinguished she received such injuries that medical aid could not avert the coming of the grim messenger and in a few hours she passed away and left a devoted husband and two little children to mourn her untimely death. Mrs. Claypoole was the wife of Edward E. Claypoole, a former citizen of this place but who had been in the carpenter and contracting business at Muskogee for several years. CLAYPOOL, Mrs. Gertie Mae - Mrs. Gertie Mae Claypool, 72, died last night at 10:30 o'clock in the home of her daughter, Zella Beeler, Springdale. Mrs. Claypool was born 4 Mar 1881 at Johnson, the daughter of Shepherd Luper and Harriet Mitchell Luper. She was the widow of James G. Claypool and was a member of the Baptist Church at Stony Point. Survivors include two sons, Delmer Claypool of Fowler, CA and James Claypool of Tulsa, OK. Four daughters, Mrs. Beeler of Springdale, Mrs. Velma Gregory of Cave Springs, Mrs. Vada Davis of Baggs, OK, and Mrs. Adah Matthews of Rogers. One brother, Sim Luper of Johnson, three sisters, Mrs. Love Musteen of Elm Springs, Mrs. Lizzie Lord of Klamath Falls,Oregon, and Mrs. Ina Maxey of Fullerton, CA., 15 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. CLAYPOOL, Mrs. Johnny - Mrs. Orpha Annie Claypool of 1016 Grove Street, Springdale, died Sunday morning at 9:45 in the Elizabeth Hospital, Prairie Grove. She was born December 31, 1928 at Weathers, Ark., the daughter of George C. Burk and May Austin Burk. They moved to Springdale about six years ago from Weathers. Survivors include her husband; one sons, John George Claypool, seven days old; her parents and her maternal grandmother, Mrs. Florence Austin of Loy, Ark., and three brothers, Clyde Burk of Weathers, Carl Burk of Red Star, Ark., and Clarence Burk of the home. Funeral services will be held tomorrow morning at 10 o'clock in the chapel of Callison-Sisco Funeral Home with Rev. Stanley Jordan, pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiating. A second service will be held at two o'clock at the Kingston, Ark., Community Church. COMBS, Hoyt Jr. - Hoyt Combs Jr., 58, of Springdale died March 28 at Springdale Memorial Hospital. He was born Aug. 5, 1930, in Johnson, the son of Hoyt and Cliffie Emmett Combs Sr. He was owner of Combs Trailer Repair Co. and a member of Turner Street Baptist Church. He was a board member of the Johnson Fire Department and a lifelong resident of the area. Survivors include his wife, Jessie Combs of the home; one son, Ronnie Hoyt Combs of Johnson; two daughters, Linda Wehmeyer of Springdale and Deborah Ann Combs of the home; and three grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Nelson's Funeral Home of Fayetteville with the Rev. Herbert Watts officiating. Burial will be in Stuckey Cemetery. [Springdale News, undated clipping]

COSAND, John - John Cosand, 36, of Springdale, died of a cerebral hemorrhage Monday near Stilwell, Okla., according to information received in Springdale by his wife from the Oklahoma coroner. Cosand was enroute to his home in Springdale when his body was found on the highway outside of the Oklahoma city. Mrs. Cosand stated Wendesday afternoon. Funeral service, arrangements for which are incomplete, will be in charge of the Nelson Savage Funeral home of Fayetteville. Cosand was a son of the late Clarence S. Cosand and Mrs. Cosand of Johnson, Ark., and was born at Plainview, Ark., May 25, 1912. Besides his wife and his mother he is survived by a son, Larry Dean, two brothers, Guy T. of Johnson, Ark., Arthur Sanford of Talent, Ore., two sisters Mrs. L.C. and Mrs. D.R. COSSAIRT, Mrs. Lucy N. - Mrs. Lucy N. Cossairt, 71, widow of the late Perry Cossairt, died yesterday afternoon at 5:25 o'clock at the Rogers Memorial hospital. She was born November 24, 1883 at Rogers, the daughter of Henry and Emeline O'Bryant Miley. Survivors are three daughters, Mrs. Eamil Belch of Kansas City, Mo., Mrs. Everett Miller of Carthage, Mo. and Mrs. Lewis Martin of Rogers; two sisters, Mrs. Lola Blackburn of Littleton, Mass. and Mrs. Effie Sheppard of St. Petersburg, Fla.; one brother, Willie H. Miller of Rogers; three grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. Funeral services will be held in Rogers with the time to be announced later. Dr. Ellis Tiffany will officiate. COUNTS, Anna - Mrs. Anna Alma Counts, 57, resident of Johnson, died suddenly Sunday morning, May 4, in Sand Springs, Okla., where she was visiting her daughter, Mrs. Maxine Shumate. A member of the Church of Christ, she was born May 15, 1900 in Madison County, the daughter of Pete and Orgin Lewis Neal. Survivors incolude her husband, Tolbert Counts of the home; four daughters, Mrs. Shumae, Sand Springs, Mrs. Ilene Noel, Tulsa, Okla., Mrs. Jan Divens, Washington, D.C., and Connie Lee Counts of the home; one son, Wayne Counts, Springdale; her mother, Mrs. Orgin Neal, Johnson; one brother, Monroe Neal, Brea, Calif.; three sisters, Mrs. Flossie Duncan, Alameda, Calif., Mrs. Lucy Ball, Johnson and Mrs. Gladys Strange, Fayetteville; several grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the Church of Christ at Johnson with Leerie Ball officiating. COX, Addieline - Funeral services for Mrs. Addieline Farish-Cox, 86-year-old lifelong resident of northwest Arkansas, who died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Dewey McCamey at Harmon, Tuesday, June 1, were held yesterday at 2 o'clock at the Harmon Methodist church with Rev. Woodrow Woods conducting. Music was furnished by a quartette composed of Mrs. Ross Mitchell, Mrs. E.B. Crain, Arch Thompson and Fred Cripps, and by Miss Sarah Zoe Lynch, soloist, with Mrs. John Henry Bookout at the piano. Pallbearers were Carl Wright, Nolan McCamey, Ross Mitchell, E.B. COX, Samuel - Samuel Cox, former resident of Johnson, died Sunday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Denzil Reese in Los Angeles. Mr. Cox had suffered a stroke on Friday. COX, Samuel - Funeral services for Samuel Cox, 79-year old former resident of Johnson who died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Lela Reese, Los Angeles, Calif., on March 7, will be held Saturday morning at 10 o'clock in the chapel of Callison-Sisco funeral home, Springdale. Rev. Norman Drake, Baptist minister, will officiate. Pallbearers will be Edgar Bookout of Johnson, Tommy Graves of Springdale; Vine Blumenberg of Fayetteville, Denver Foster and John Bailey of Johnson, and Mr. Cordell of Springdale. Burial will be in the Stuckey cemetery near Johnson. Mr. Cox was born Aug. 17, 1870, at Johnson, son of Samuel Cox of Ohio and Pamelia Ingram Cox of Tennessee. He was an employee of the lime kiln at Johnson, giving up his work there about eight years ago to make his home with his daughter in Los Angeles. His wife, Belle Loving Cox, preceded him in death 12 years ago. He was a member of the Baptist church. Survivors are one daughter, Mrs. Reese; two sisters, Miss Addie Cox, of San Bernardino, Calif., and Mrs. Nettie McMasters, Caney, Kan.; two grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and one niece, Mrs. N.V. Hanks of Johnson.

DIVEN, Ida - Mrs. Ida Diven of Johnson was killed and her husband, W.L. Diven was seriously injured late Wednesday afternoon when their automobile was overturned on a curve on Highway 71, north of Mena, Ark. [Unidentified newspaper, Hand dated July 12, 1929]
