STAMPS, Mary Frances - [Bethel Heights] Mary Frances Stamps, 75, of Bethel Heights, died Sept 23, 1998, at Fayetteville Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was born Nov 13, 1922, at Johnson to Edgar A. and Cora Selinda Wickware Bookout. She was a retired employee of Baldwin Piano and a former employee of Kmart in Springdale. She was a member of Bethel Heights Homemakers Extension Club. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Tillman Stamps, on March 18, 1974. Survivors include one stepson, John Tillman Stamps II of Del City, Okla.; several nieces and nephews, including Katrina Battenfield of Wesley and Cindy Dickinson of Springdale. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Stuckey Cemetery in Johnson under the direction of Moore's Chapel of Fayetteville. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Moore's. STAMPS, John - John T. Stamps, 56, of Route 6, was dead on arrival at a local hospital Monday. Born March 16, 1916 in Osage, the son of Sam P. and Sarah Thomas Stamps, he was a carpenter and a Baptist. Survivors include the widow, Mrs. Frances Bookout Stamps of the home; one son Johnny of Oklahoma City, Okla.; the mother, of Springdale; three brothers, Foster of Ventura, and Owen and Fred of Springdale; four sisters, Mrs. Hazel Brown of Stockton, Calif., Mrs. Cleo Neff of Woodlake, Calif., Mrs. Lois Williams of Fayetteville, and Mrs. Pansy Nichols of Houston, Texas; and three grandchildren. STAMPS, John T. - Funeral services for John T. Stamps, 58, of Rt. 6, Springdale were held today at 2 p.m. in Sisco Chapel with the Rev. Richard Lewis officiating. Burial was in Stuckey Cemetery, Johnson, under the direction of Sisco. Pallbearers were Herman Boyd, Carl Scott, Walter Haggard, Reland Spaulding, Elmer Kendrick and Douglas Stone.(undated clipping] THOMAS, Dean - Dean Thomas, 48, of Springdale died Nov. 21, 1991, near Ozark. He was born Dec. 24, 1942, at Stoney Point, the son of Caril E. and Vallie M. Teague Thomas. He was a truck driver for Arbor Acres, a former employee of Anchor Construction Co. for the city of Fayetteville and a member of the Johnson Church of Christ. Survivors include his wife, Janice Dobson Thomas of the home, to whom he was married on April 17, 1955; his mother of Fayetteville; two sons, Eddie Thomas of Springdale and Edwin Thomas of Gassville; two daughters, La Vonna Ward of Johnson and Rachael Long of Fayetteville; one sister, Lorene Olson of Fayetteville and seven grandchildren. Services were Nov. 23 at the Johnson Church of Christ with burial in Stuckey Cemetery under the direction of Sisco Chapel of Springdale.Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. today at the funeral home. THOMPSON, Ina Jane - Lincoln--Ina Jane Thompson, 93, of Lincolnc died Oct. 1., 1999, in Prairie Grove. She was born Feb. 26, 1906, in Johnson to Oscar and Mary Jane Maxey Hughes. She was a member of Wedington Baptist Church and Rheas Mill Home Demonstration Club. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Thompson. Survivors include one son, Charles O. Thompson of Prairie Grove; six grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the First Presbyterian Church in Prairie Grove with the Rev. Phil Misenheimer and Dr. John King officiating. Burial will be in Prairie Grove Cemetery under the direction of Luginbuel Funeral Home of Prairie Grove. Visitation will be from 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Washington Regional Hospice, 1125 N. College Ave., Fayetteville, 72703. Pallbearers will be grandsons Randy West, Mark Methvin, Lance Lee, kelly Bryant, Ted O'Brien and Robin Thompson. THURMOND, James Monroe - James Monroe Thurmond, 63, widely known farmer of this community, died Saturday night at 7:30 at his home west of Springdale on highway 68 after an illness of several weeks. Funeral servies were held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Callison and Riggs Funeral home chapel, conducted by the Rev. Irving M. Price, pastor of the First Baptist church. Special music was by Mrs. V. Price and Mrs. Florence Brooks. Active pallbearers were T.H. Stansberry, Floyd Stevenson, Joe Robinson, Adrian Luna, Roger Anderson and Ernest Holcomb; honorary, L.R. Stevens, Walter Watkins, Louis Anderson, E.B. Cummings, Jeff Brown, G.D. Lichlyter, John Late, W.H. Needham, J.R. Joyce and Reece Clarkson. Burial was in the Stuckey cemetery, south of Springdale, near Johnson. James Monroe Thurmond was born May 20, 1875 near Springdale and was the only child of Nathan P. Thurmond and Zenobia Mason Thurmond of Kentucky. His birthplace was about a mile south of the farm where his death occurred and where he had lived for the past 62 years. Mr. Thurmond is survived by his wife, Mrs. Myrtle Wall Thurmond, by two daughters, Mrs. Glenn Steward of Springdale and Miss Bernice Thurmond of the home, also by two grandchildren, Loris Fay and Max Dale Steward. Out of town relatives attending the funeral included Mr. and Mrs. Frank Pierce and Mrs. Ida Thurmond Briggs of Baxter Springs, Kansas.[Springdale News, undated clipping]

THURMOND, Mrs. Myrtle - Mrs. Myrtle Thurmond, 81, a resident of 201 Allen Ave., died at 7:52 p.m. October 17 at the Springdale Memorial Hospital. She was born July 7, 1882 at Valley Springs, the daughter of John Wall and Laura Rogers Wall. She was the widow of James M. Thurmond, and a member of the Thompson Street Church of Christ. Survivors are one grandson, Max Steward of Fayetteville; one granddaughter, Mrs. Loris Butterfield of Collinsville, Ill.; two brothers, Billy Wall of Exeter, Calif., and Virgil Wall of Kerman, Calif.; and four sisters, Mrs. Iva Anderson of Elm Springs, Mrs. Pearl Downum, and Miss Ora Wall of Springdale, and Mrs. Fannie Sullivan of Alma. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 19, at the Thompson Street Church of Christ. Burial will be at the Stuckey Cemetery under direction of Callison - Sisco Funeral Home. UPSHAW, Bill - Bill Edward Upshaw, 70, of Springdale died Jan. 29, 1992, at Springdale Memorial Hospital. He was born July 18, 1921, at Lead Hill, the son of John and Doshie Clarkson Upshaw. He was a retired truck driver and a Baptist. Survivors include his wife, Elsie Upshaw of the home; two sons, David Upshaw of San Diego and Dale Upshaw of Stockton, Calif.; four daughters, Dorothy Delia of San Jose, Calif., Jeanette Gruendenian of Minnesota, Rita Hubbard and Billie O'Donnell, both of Coffeeville, Kan.; three brothers, Bob Upshaw of Vinita, Okla., Earl Upshaw of Springdale and Ralph Upshaw of Monte Clair, Calif.; two sisters, Edith Hodge of Ontario, Calif., and Bonnie Martin of Springdale; 17 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; seven stepchildren; 15 stepgrandchildren; 26 stepgreat-grandchildren. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Backstrom-Pyeatte Funeral Home of Springdale with the Rev. Dale Kester officiating. Burial will be in Stuckey Cemetery near Johnson. Pallbearers will be Sid Rieff, Hershel Hardin, John Lewis, Scott Lewis, Chuck Clark and Ken Watson. Visitation will be from noon to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
