From here you can go to any of my transcripts pages. Some of these pages are slow to open due to the amount of data within them. Please be patient. You may use any of these for your own research. However you may NOT sell them on to any other person! Please read this before you go anywhere. Errors: Obviously, in any transcription process error occur. I have tried to ensure that the transcripts are as accurate as possible. In the event of an unclear entry you will see either a name followed by a question mark i.e. James? [this means it looks like James but I am not sure] or a set of question marks i.e. ??? [this means I can't read that part of the entry]. If you see * or + this means that there is more data available (check the end column before mailing me). Originals: You should ALWAYS check these transcripts against the originals. Most transcripts are easy enough to find in their original form but if you have difficulty you can me. If you contact me, please give me the full details of the entry you are interested in (use copy and paste for all the columns). Spelling and name variants: I can't be responsible for the quirks of vicars and other officials. I type what I see. It is entirely possible for one official to habitually spell a name one way, whilst another spells it another. It is reasonable to assume that James and Elisabeth GURNEY in 1802 are the same James and Elizabeth GURNEY in 1804 in a particular baptisms register, but one should always be careful what assumptions one makes. Remember to check for variant spellings. Further Details: Sometimes further details are available by emailing me. [See Originals above on how to email me and what to mail] Record content varies considerably. It is possible on earlier records that there is no more detail. Adjacent Counties/Parishes: You might find it helpful to check adjacent parishes and counties. You should also note the splitting of parishes. At one time Congleton (CHS) was part of Astbury parish, then it became it's own parish [from being a chapelry], and subsequently split into several parishes. Leaps of faith: Be careful what you assume (see Spelling above). Coverage: Coverage is listed below, but these records are NOT complete. Even if you see several entries for one year of a parish register, or several entries on a page of the census, this doesn't mean that these are ALL the entries for that year/page. Columns: The entries are set out in tabular form. Each column should be more or less, self-explanatory. The order of and details in each column might vary slightly. I have tried to standardise the format but occasionally quirks of the cleric involved have made it necessary to adapt column content. Please note: Civil registrations are listed by registration district whilst religious records are listed by parish, i.e. a birth will be under a registration district, a baptism will be by parish. Jewish records will be by synagogue. Dates: Date format is as follows "dd. mm. year", where dd means day, mm means month and year means year (Gregorian calendar). For example 02.12.1812 means the 2nd of December 1812 and NOT 12th February. Currently there are 503 names in the following GRO References, Jewish Chronicle Entries, Naturalisations, Jewish Marriage Authorisations and Marriage Witnesses to both Christian and Jewish Marriages. Please note: Some entries may be repeated (i.e. a marriage might be in the GRO reference section, plus in the marriage certificates section, plus in the witnesses section). Parish Registers and Civil Registrations Details from Birth Certificates or Baptismal Entries Currently 888 entries sorted by county and then in a random order. Details from Banns Books, Marriage Certificates and Entries Currently 144 entries sorted by county and then in a random order. Details from Death Certificates and Burial Entries Currently 220 entries sorted by county and then in a random order. Currently 1008 entries are listed in 4 census years and across 6 counties, sorted by year and then by county. Copyright © 2001 by Sherry
