He was a cloth merchant in Pferde Market, Hamburg in 1839, and his son, Carl Auguste was baptized at St. Jacobi's Cathedral in 1839.  Two of his other sons were born in Holstein near Hamburg.  He and his family left Hamburg, Germany May 1857, on the "Peter Godeffroy" arrived Sth Australia 7.9.1857

Death 28 July 1874 Mt.Gambier. Sth Australia.
