                   1927-2015

Leslie D. and Geraldine (Harris) were married Sept., 30th 1950 at the Orient Methodist

Church.  They lived one mile west and two miles north of Orient.  Les farmed and worked part time for the ASC and the co-op elevator for a few years and was a board member of the Orient Co-op elevator for many years. 

Geraldine worked as a nurse’s aide at the Faulkton Hospital and Shirk Nursing Home.  She also worked as a homemaker home health aide for the state: 

 

They have six  children:

 * Larry Lee was born July 24, 1951.  He was a computer program analyst in Tooele, Utah dying in 2000 from kidney
 failure. 

 * Ross Lynn was born on Aug. 19, 1952.  He is a carpenter and works on the WEB line.  He    is  married to Eva Uber of Pennsylvania.  They have two children:  Chris & Renee.

 * Donald Ray was born April 13, 1954.  He is an assistant foreman at John Morrell in Sioux Falls.  He is married to Nancy Mines of Coleman.  They have three children:  Ryan, Bradley and Kimberly. 

 * Charlene Mae was born Nov. 25, 1955 and teaches school in California.  She is married to Bill Wiesenborn.  They have one child, Christine Nicole.

 * David Allen was born on March 23, 1957.   He was a truck driver and a spray pilot.

 * Judy Kay was born Aug. 16, 1959 and is a school teacher.  She is married to Mark Peckenpaugh of Bryant and have a daughter, Jamie.

            Geraldine’s Family History

 

Claude R. and Ethel (Langford) Harris

 

Claude Ray Harris was born Jan. 14, 1888 on a farm near Eylar, Ill.  To James and Emma Harris.  He went to grade school in Eylar and Soneumin, Ill.  Claude went to high school in Portiac, Ill.  After high school he went to the University of Illinois for one year.  In 1908, Claude came to Northville and worked for awhile.

 

Ethel Mae Landgord was born Nov. 15, 1889 in Eylar, Ill. To Dennis and Hattie (Harriet) Langford.  In 1904, Ethel and her parents moved to Northville, where Ethel finished high school.  She taught school in DeVoe near Cresbard.

 

On Feb. 24, 1909 Claude and Ethel were married.  They lived on a farm there for awhile and then moved to the old Conway farm near Orient in the spring of 1910.  The farm was located one mile straight north of Orient.

 

· James, the first child was born Oct. 16, 1910.  Dr. Mitchell delivered him.  Ethel had blood poisoning at the time and was very sick for awhile.  He is now deceased.

· Harriet, the second child was born April 15, 1915 on the Conway place.  Dr. Weiblen delivered her.  He came from Cresbard in a buggy.  She married Gordon Jonasen and lives in Boulder City, Nevada.

· Kenneth, the third child was born March 7, 1918 at Hattie Langford’s home.  He was born with pneumonia and was very sick.  He had to be put in a range oven to be kept warm.  He now lives in Rapid City, So. Dak.

· Geraldine, the youngest child was born at the Faulk County Hospital Jan. 15, 1932.  Ethel brought Geraldine home on the train that was just 1/2 mile east of their home.  Geraldine married Leslie Hansen.  They now live in Faulkton, home of Leslie’s father, Jack. 

 

Claude was deputy sheriff for Faulk Co. for several years.  He and Ethel built a farm just 1/2 mile west and 1/2 mile north o the Conway farm.  They moved there in 1919, where they lived until Ethel’s death on May 29th of 1945.

 

Claude married Mary Anglin and they lived on the farm until her death in 1953.  He then married Anna Perry of Cresbard in 1955.  They retired from farming and moved to Cresbard. 

 

Claude died June 15, 1971.

Leslie (Les) Dale Hansen, 88 of Faulkton, SD and formerly of Orient, SD, passed on to be with the angels January 14, 2015 at the Faulkton Senior Living.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 17, 2015 at the United Methodist Church, Faulkton with Pastor Bill Hoffman officiating. Burial will follow in the Prairie View Cemetery, Orient. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m., Friday, January 16, 2015 with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service, all at Luce Funeral Home, Faulkton.

Leslie Dale Hansen was born January 3, 1927 to John "Jack" and Malinda (Borcherding) Hansen in Faulkton, SD.

Leslie attended grade school at Irving and Unorganized Thirteen Township Schools and graduated from Faulkton High School in 1945. After graduation he joined the U.S. Marine Corps and was assigned to the USS Antietam in the Hawaiian Islands. After being honorably discharged in 1946 he attended Northern State College before returning to Faulkton to work on the family farm.

On September 30, 1950 he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Geraldine Harris and together they raised six children. Eventually the couple settled on the family farmstead north of Orient doing what he loved best, farming and raising cattle. In addition to farming in the early years he worked part time at the Orient Farmers Elevator and the Faulk County ACS. He served for many years on the Orient Township Election Board and Orient Elevator Co-op Board. In 2006 he retired from farming and ranching and moved to Faulkton. During those years he and Gerry became members of the Good Sam Club to enjoy camping and social gatherings.

Leslie was a member of the Odd Fellows, Faulkton VFW Post 3179, the Orient American Legion Roland Egger Post, and the United Methodist Church of Orient.

Leslie leaves behind his beloved wife of 64 years, Geraldine; sons Ross (Eva) Hansen of Faulkton, Don (Nancy) Hansen of Egan, and David Hansen, Pisek, ND; daughters Charlene (William) Wiesenborn of Boulder City, Nv and Judy Hansen of Rapid City, SD: sister Loretta Ketterling and brother Lester Hansen both of Faulkton: nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and son Larry Lee Hansen.
