Lester L. Hansen
Family
( 1932-2015)
Lester Lewis Hansen was born in Faulk Co. Hospital on Dec. 30, 1932 in Faulkton, the son of John and Malinda
Hansen. He attended the Hansen School until the seventh grade and then came into
Faulkton and graduated from high school in 1950. Lester worked at the Carl
Deady garage while in high school. He joined the U.S. Army Sept.
23rd, 1952 and was
in Korea for 14 months doing fire direction control in artillery. He was
discharged 23 Sept., 1954.
Patty Lou, the youngest of Salvia and Thelma Roseland, was born Jan. I, 1936, in
Faulkton. She attended Ellisville School and graduated from Faulkton High School
in 1954.
Lester and Patty were married June 11, 1956 in the Seneca
Methodist Church. They lived in a trailer on the same block Lester's
parents lived south of Faulkton. Patty worked at the ASC Office & Lester farmed
and drilled wells with his father. In 1959 they moved their trailer to the
Hansen homestead on
the NE 15-117-70. They have been building and developing their place. and now
have a beautiful farm and ranch home.
In 1982 Lester &
Patty bought a house in Faulkton where they presently reside. Their son
Lee took over the ranching operation where Lester helps out.
Lester is a VFW. member and on the board of directors of the Faulkton
Elevator. Patty is a VFW. Auxiliary member, and retired from the ASCS. Office
giving 22 years of service.
They are members of the United Church of Faulkton.

Patty and Lester have four children:
Lee of Faulkton, farming the Christ Hansen homestead;
Jay. a dentist
at West Point, Neb.; Holly, employed in a dental office in Sioux Falls
living in Dell Rapids, So. Dak. and
Kip, at Watertown, So. Dak. Kip
is Asst. to the President for Dacotah Bank.

Lee Hansen was born Sept. II, 1958 in Faulkton, the son of Lester and
Patty Hansen. He attended grade school at the Maloney and Taylor Schools, and
then came into Faulkton and graduated from high school in 1976. He graduated
from Northern State College in 1980. Lee now owns his father's ranch { Was
also Jack & Malinda's farm} and with his father the original Christ Hansen farm.
The Christ Hansen homestead itself is vacant.
Diane Melius was born Oct. 23, 1957 at Faulkton. Diane graduated from
Faulkton High School in 1975. She attended SDSU in Brookings, and later she
went to Northern State College in Aberdeen. She was employed by the First
National Bank in Aberdeen, and the Register of Deeds Office in Faulk County.
Lee and Diane were married Aug. 23, 1979 married in the Faulkton Methodist
Church.
Rick James married Ashley Marie Allcock { born Aug. 25, 1985 } on July
21st, 2007 at the Plymouth Congregation Church in Aberdeen, SD. They
live in Sioux Falls where Rick works and Ashley is in a pharmacy internship.

Jay was born in 1960 and married Linda Meyer. Jay is a dentist practicing
in Nebraska.

Holly was born in
1962 and lives with her family on a farm near Dell Rapids, South Dakota.

Kip was born Jan.
4th, 1969 marrying Jeanne James. They live in Watertown where Kip is
an assistant to the president of the Dacotah Bank.
Lester & Patty
celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in June of 2006. Lester helps
out his son on the ranch and Patty works part-time at the Faulkton 'mini-mall'
and enjoys her flowers, garden and playing cards.
Lester Louis Hansen Obituary
Lester L. Hansen, 82, of Faulkton, passed away Wednesday, March 18, 2015 at the
Faulkton Senior Living.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, March 23, 2015 at the United
Church of Faulkton, with Pastor Bill Hoffman presiding. Burial followed in the
Faulkton Cemetery with full military honors. A prayer service was held at 7:30
p.m., Sunday, March 22, 2015 at the church with visitation one hour prior.
Lester Louis Hansen was born December 30. 1932 in Faulk County, South Dakota to
John “Jack” and Malinda (Borcherding) Hansen. He attended school at the Hansen
Country School through the 6th grade
and finished his education, graduating from Faulkton High School. Following high
school, Lester joined the United States Army on September 24, 1952, serving
during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged on September 23, 1954.
Upon his return, Lester worked with his dad drilling wells and farming.
On June 11, 1956, Lester was united in marriage to Patty Roseland at the Seneca
Methodist Church. They made their home in Faulk County where they raised their
family and Lester lived his life working the land as a farmer and rancher.
Lester enjoyed spending time working in his shop, doing wood-working, and
watching football and high school wrestling. Above all, he gave his time freely
to his wife, kids and grandkids. Lester spent as much time as he could watching
their sports and school events. He was also a member of the United Church of
Faulkton, the VFW and served as a director at the Faulkton Farmers Elevator.
Lester’s life will be cherished by his wife, Patty of Faulkton; his children:
Lee (Diane) Hansen of Faulkton, Jay (Linda) Hansen of West Point, NE, Holly
(Ken) Veldkamp of Dell Rapids, and Kip (Jeanne) Hansen of Watertown; his
grandchildren: Rick (Ashley) Hansen, Trish (Cole) Cotton, Haeley (Trent)
Petersen, Alex and Mattie Hansen, Keith (Jennifer) Veldkamp, Craig Veldkamp
(fiancée, Megan Johnson), Mandi Veldkamp, and Colton, Alana and Lawson Hansen;
great grandchildren: Blake, Evan and Heidi Hansen and Raya Cotton; one sister,
Loretta Ketterling of Faulkton; one sister-in-law, Geraldine Hansen of Faulkton
and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Leslie Hansen and grandson,
Cody Hansen.
