CAPTAIN CHRYSTIE
Annapolis March 26th
1772
On the 8th instant in latitude 34: 30 Longitude 64, west from London, Captain Chrystie spoke the schooner Charming Nancy, John Baker, Master, from Tenerife, bound to Portsmouth in Virginia. He had then been out twelve weeks, had met with very bad weather, which had much damaged his rigging and tore his sails to pieces, and was also in the utmost distress for want of provisions. Captain Chrystie readily spared him some cordage, twine and needles, as also provisions sufficient for three weeks. Captain Baker providentially met with the above assistance just as a negro boy was going to be sacrificed, in order to appease the calls of nature, as the crew had been some time in extreme want. The schooner bore away for Bermuda in order to repair damage.
