The Ganges

The Ganges leaving port circa 1880

State Library of Victoria  Permission Pending

The emigrant ship Ganges sailed from London and Liverpool, England in June of 1841. The barque was captained by Samuel C. Walker and arrived in Fremantle in the Swan River Colony (now Western Australia) on October 15, 1841 with 123 passengers, including my great-great grandfather James McKenna & his brother John.

Cabin passenger, John Schoales, recruited many of the passengers in Ireland as indentured labourers and accompanied them on their voyage.  The links below are to the passenger list and much information about how some of  the passengers fared after their arrival in the Colony.

If you can add information or would like your e-mail address included as a contact for any of the passengers please contact me.
