Paulus Brodt was born Sept. 19, 1733 in Lixheim, Lorraine, France, (on the Alsace border). He was a son of Paulus Brodt and Mary Rieger and a grandson of Simon Brodt. He was an Immigrant Ancestor. At the age of 16 years, he arrived here with other members of his family, in the port of Philadelphia on Sept. 13, 1749 on the ship Christian. Paul Brodt (Paulus Brodt), his name is also spelled Powell Brodt, all spellings being a form of the name Paul, died 1782 in William township, Northampton Co., PA.

Paul Brodt was a tanner and a farmer. He married Maria Barbara Miller. He had a large tannery at Riverton, across the Delaware River from Belvidere, New Jersey. He also established a tannery at Lower Saucon in Williams township, Northampton Co., Pennsylvania and at Portland, Pennsylvania. "Upon his arrival into this country made his way up along Delaware River until he reached a point opposite Belvidere NJ at a point now called Riverton Pa. (about equally distant between Easton and Delaware Water Gap) where he established a Tannery."

Evidence that he ran a tannery in Lower Saucon in Williams township is found in the 1782 tax list where he was taxed 820 pounds for his Tannery property there. At his death in 1783, he left a large estate to his 10 children, many of whom were still minors under the age of 14. He was the father of Susanna Brodt who married Christopher Illick.
