State of Tennessee to the Sheriff of Montgomery County, Greeting
Whereas on the third day of March 1798 Hugh DOBBINS entered into bond together with James FORD & James TAYLOR his securites in the sum of one hundred & eighty four dollars, which bond was to be void on condition that the said Hugh DOBBINS do appear at the next county court of Robertson at the house of Benjamin McINTOSH & then & there prosecute his action with effect against George BRISCOE for the taking & detaining his property that is to say one negro boy & do also make return thereof if a return shall be alledged by law, which suit the said DOBBINS hath failed to appear to, and the debt & costs & charges hath heretofore failed to pay to the said BRISCOE. You are therefore commanded that by two good & lawful men of your county you cause to be made known to James FORD & James TAYLOR, personally to be & appear before your county court of pleas & quarter sessions to be heretofore the county of Robertson in the town of Springfield on the third Monday of October next, then & thereto show cause of any they can why execution should not issue against their goods & chattels, land & tenements for the amount of the said debt & costs, have you then & there this writ, together with the names of them by whom you make known as aforesaid. On which the Sheriff returned made known to James FORD & James TAYLOR in presence of George BELL & Wm MONTGOMERY.

To which at October session 1800 the plaintiff appeared by Saml DONELSON his attorney & likewise the defendant & by John C. HAMILTON Esqr his attorney and pleads "non ____ ____, __ & imposition & always ___" and thereupon the parties joined issue, then the cause & proceedings so had thereon was continued until January term 1801 at which time came here into court as well the plaintiff as the defendant & by their attornies aforesaid and thereupon comes a jury of good & lawful men, to wit, Nathaniel ROGERS, David HAMILTON, James STARK, Arthur PITT, Francis BOREN, Thos McINTOSH, Joseph CASTLEBERRY, David SPENCE, Stephen BOREN, John APPLETON, Ezekiel MARE(?) & Samuel CROCKETT who being duly elected, tryed & sworn, well & truly to try the issue joined between the parties aforesaid say they find for the defendant from which verdict the plaintiff prayed & obtained an appeal to the honorable superior court, gave bond in 200 dollars with George BRISCOE, his security, Hezekiel ROBERTSON a witness proves 2 days attendance and John J. DORRIS the same.
Ordered that Josiah FORT Esqr County Trustee be allowed one dollar thirty seven & half cents being a sum overpaid of the county tax for the year 1797.
At an election held for coroner after the poles were closed & votes counted out, George BRISCOE was duly & constitutionally elected, gave bond in one thousand dollars with John HARDING, John HUTCHISON his securities & took the oath by law required.
Ordered that the overseer of the road leading from Logan to Nashville passing through Springfield, open said road from the Sulpher Fork the nearest & best way passing through Springfield with the main north & south street.
