Green Berry Gordon was a son of Alexander Gordon & Sarah Lee & was born Apr 1, 1788 in South Carolina.
His father was born at West Point, King William county VA & migrated to South Carolina where he enlisted Aug 11, 1782 in the 1st South Carolina Regiment under the command of Col C. Pinckney for a period of 3 years. Alexander married Sarah Lee in 1784. She was the daughter of John Lee & Mary Cassels.
When his parents began their move from South Carolina to Robertson County TN, Green Berry & his older brother John, began their move to the Mississippi territory & settled on land that is now called Clarke County & Wayne County. It is not known if Green Berry & John travelled with their parents & siblings to Tennessee first or if they went from South Carolina to the Mississippi territory.
Green Berry married Sarah ? in 1812, most likely after locating in the Mississippi territory. She was born 1786 GA and names of her parents are unknown.
On Jan 23, 1830 his father, Alexander, wrote his will leaving a male slave to Green Berry which was already in his possession. His father died in November of 1831 in Robertson County TN.
Green Berry was a farmer & purchased 80.3 acres of land under the Act of Congress of the 24th of April 1820, entitled "An act making further provision for the sale of the Public Lands." A final certificate of ownership was issued Jan 5, 1841.
Green Berry died in 1850 and in Mar 1851 letters of administration were issued to his sons, Alexander & Sampson, to settle his estate.
Sarah Gordon died before 1870 in Clarke County MS.

Green Berry & Sarah had six children:

Children: Emma W., Robert, Alabama, Martha M. Minnie L. Alexander, Dora Ann & Verna Claire.
2. Ann born Oct 24, 1815 Wayne Co MS, died Sep 5, 1823 Wayne Co MS.
3. Mary "Polly" born Apr 17, 1818 Wayne Co MS, died June 12, 1822 Wayne Co MS.
4. Elizabeth born Apr 12, 1821 Wayne Co MS, died Sep 1823 Wayne Co MS.
5. Samson P. born Nov 2, 1823 Wayne Co MS, died Feb 24, 1916 Clarke Co MS.
Married: Mary Evans "Polly" 1850 Clarke Co MS.
Children: George B., Frances Eugenia, John M.C., Yancy Erasmus, Sarah Ophelia, Columbia, Sampson, Alexander Mark & Clarence Eugene.
6. Sarah Rebecca born Sep 24, 1826 Wayne Co MS, died July 15, 1849 Clarke Co MS.
Married: Christopher Rankin Dyess 1847 MS. He was born Nov 27, 1826 MS, died May 26, 1865 MS.
Children: James Martin & Rebecca.
