Mrs. Rosa Narsis Bird, 73, of Birdtown, widow of S.P. Bird, died at a Morrilton Nursing Home Monday, August 21.
She was born at Birdtown, November 17, 1893, a daughter of the late Alex Gordon and Melvina Reid-Gordon. She was a member of the Pleasant Springs Baptist Church.
Survivors include six sons, Elbert Bird and Fay Bird of Birdtown, Dewey Bird of Stigler Okla, A/C Roy Bird of Little Rock Air Force Base, Huey Bird and Ralph Bird of Brownsmills N.J., three daughters, Miss Ruth Bird of Jacksonville, Mrs. Imogene French and Mrs. Esther McNew of Morrilton, two brothers, Elmer Gordon of Springfield and John Gordon of England, two sisters Mrs J.C. Huett of Morrilton and Mrs. Allie VonOhlen of Llano Tex, 17 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were 2p.m. Wednesday at the Pleasant Springs Baptist Church by Elder Carl Williams. Burial was at Kilgore Cemetery by Harris Funeral Home.


Roy L. BIRD

Roy L. Bird, 64, of Springfield, died Friday, May 19.
He was born Oct. 12, 1930 in Birdtown, a son of Samuel Porter Bird and Rose Gordon-Bird. Mr. Bird worked for the Conway County Road Department, was a U.S. Air Force Korean veteran and was a member of the Chapel Hill Baptist Church in Jacksonville.
Survivors include his wife, Peggy Bird; one stepson, Howard Mitchell of Springfield; two stepdaughters, Patty Thurston of Huntsville and Sharon McCoy of Russellville; two brothers, Huie Bird of Clarksville and Dewey Bird of Stigler Okla.; one sister Imogene French of Canadian TX; and two grandchildren.
Graveside service was 2 p.m. Monday at Kilgore Cemetery by Elder Earl Smith with burial by Harris Funeral Home of Morrilton.
Pallbearers were Andrew McCoy, Gene Wright, Larry Rehm, Roy Turner, Joe Brown, James Henderson, Eddie Sims and Dean Caston.


Wilma BOWLING

Wilma (Foreman) Bowling, 71, of Ashdown, died Monday, Dec. 18, 2006. She was born Sept. 22, 1935, in Birdtown, a daughter of Prestridge “Buck” Foreman and Ola Jordan Foreman Ward. She was the widow of F.L. “Bo” Bowling.
Survivors include two sons, Michael L. Bowling and Billy H. Bowling, both of Ashdown; three sisters, Hazel Bowling and Johnnie Bost, both of Little Rock, and Patsy Huett of Plumerville; three brothers, Al Ward of Atkins, David Ward of Plumerville, and Gene Ward of Morrilton; and two grandchildren.
Graveside service was 10 a.m. Thursday at Halbrook Cemetery with Bro. Wayne Pavatt officiating. Arrangements were by Harris Funeral Home of Morrilton.

Carlisle, May 22 (Spl) - Pfc
Rob D. Cates, son of Mr and Mrs W.R. Cates of Beechwood community, south of Carlisle in Lonoke county, was killed in action on Okinawa April 20, the War Department has notified his parents. He was with one of the first infantry units to land.
Also surviving are his wife, of the Beechwood community; a brother, Jeff Cates of Route 1, Carlisle; three sisters Mrs Ed Welch of Carlisle, Mrs Arthur Dudly of Eldon MO and Mrs Ralph M. Boyette of Fort Worth, Tex.


Myrl May CARPENTER

CARLISLE - Myrl May Carpenter, 86, of Carlisle, Ark., died Wednesday, April 12, 2000, at Baptist Memorial Hospital, North Little Rock. She was a homemaker and lifelong resident of Lonoke County. She was born on October 17, 1913, at Morrilton to John Bruce Gordon and Carrie Etta Tucker. She was married Nov. 30, 1938, to Richard Carpenter, who in 1996 preceded her in death.
She is survived by children and their spouses, Doris Jean Sessoms and her late husband, Floyd of Autryville, N.C., Karen DeVinney of Lonoke, Frances James and her husband, Ray of Little Rock, Doyne Carpenter and his wife, Judy of Carlisle, Benny Carpenter and his wife, Minnie Lou of Austin, Glenda Hemphill and her husband, Mike of Monett, Mo., and Sherri Webb and her husband, David of North Little Rock; 16 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and 2 brothers, Fred Gordon and Lindell Gordon of Carlisle. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Dee Edwin Carpenter, a brother, W. S. Gordon, and three sisters, Edna McKaskle, Velma Cates and Nerine Lantrip.
She was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church at Carlisle, where she was very active in all areas of church ministry. She also did volunteer work at Lonoke County Cares. She was also very much involved in the lives of her children and grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, April 14, 2000, at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Carlisle, Ark. Services will be at 2 p.m., Saturday, April 15, 2000, at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Andy Schalchlin and Rev. Duane Kingston officiating. Burial will be at the Hamilton Cemetery in the Hamilton community south of Carlisle. Her grandsons Mark and Wade DeVinney, Todd, Lyn, and Chris Carpenter, Jason James, Noah Webb, and great-grandson, Ryan Carpenter will serve as pallbearers. Her granddaughters Vanessa Farmer, Christy Brightwell, Amy and Carrie James, Staci Smith, Laurie, Rachael, and Valarie Hemphill, and Erica Webb will serve as honorary pallbearers. Memorial contributions may be made to Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Carlisle, Ark.


Clifton T. CLOWERS

Clowers, Clifton T. b. October 30, 1891 d. August 15, 1994
Clifton T. Clowers of Woolverton Mountain, became a Conway County legend as a result of a popular song written by Merle Kilgore and was performed by many artists including Bing Crosby. The song "Woolverton Mountain," warns would-be suitors to stay away from the mountain where Clifton Clowers was protecting his pretty young daughter because "he's mighty handy with a gun and a knife." He was the son of Jefferson Davis Clowers and Mary Prince Clowers. He was a World War I veteran and a member of the Mountain View Baptist Church where he was a deacon for several years. Survivors at the time of his death include three sons, Guy Clowers of Howell, Mich., Ted Clowers of Joplin, Mo., and Burl Clowers of Modesto, Calif.; two daughters, Virginia Green of Hurricane, W. Va., and Burlene Moore of Clinton, Ark.; 15 grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 14 step-great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and six step-great-great-grandchildren. Odes Epperson, age 90, of Solgohachia, Arkansas, died Saturday, January 3, 2004.
He was born December 19, 1913, in Formosa, Arkansas, a son of Tom and Margaret Guinn Epperson. Mr. Epperson was a lifelong resident of Conway County and a retired auto mechanic. He was of the General Baptist faith, a Mason for over 50 years, a Master Mason, and a member of Solgohachia Masonic Lodge No. 722.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Laverne Williams Epperson of Solgohachia; sons, Odes Ray Epperson of Little Rock and Michael Lynn and wife, Billie Epperson of Solgohachia; daughters, Betty and husband, Tim McCoy of Solgohachia, and Margaret and husband Kenneth Shannon of Brighton, Colorado; brothers, Arnold Epperson of Alameda, California; Mitchell and Olen Epperson, both of Morrilton; grandchildren, Kenneth McCoy, Stephanie Nix, Michael W. Epperson, Audrey Epperson, Thomas Epperson, and Lee and Linda Epperson, which he helped raise; five great-grandchildren; one great-stepgrandchild; two great-great-stepgrandchildren and the family of Brookridge Life Care Center where he was a resident for two years and three months.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Joe and Marvin Epperson; sisters, Avie Isaacs and Pearlie Maxwell Ingram; and grandson, Kenneth Forrest Shannon.
Funeral services were 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 6, at Harris Chapel with the Rev. Lindy Davis officiating. Burial was at Kilgore Cemetery by Harris Funeral Home of Morrilton.
Pallbearers were Sgt. Michael William Epperson, John Dale Morrow, Glen Mayhew, Jerrell Brice, Dwight Mullens, Bobby Brents, and Robert Wofford.

Floyd EVANS

Floyd Evans, 80, of Solgohachia passed away on March 21, 2006, from his battle with cancer.
He was born on Feb. 23,1926, in Conway County to Floyd Evans and Julia Deaton Evans. He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Louise Elkins Evans.
He is survived by his son Ronald Evans and wife Joan of Lanty; his daughter Sharon Mullins and son-in-law Dwight of Solgohachia, and his son Kevin Evans, also of Solgohachia; five grandchildren, Laura Bennet and husband Ronnie of Hattieville, Larry Foster of Solgohachia, Rhonda Henderson and husband Robert “Dullie” of Texas, Rebecca Foster of Bentonville, and Lisa Tutt and husband Jeremy of Lanty; and five great-grandchildren.
Floyd was a deacon in the Baptist church for 45 years and a member of Lone Grove Missionary Baptist Church. He lived his Christian life every day and raised his family to love the Lord and follow His Commandments. Floyd was a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 722 in Solgohachia where he earned the distinction of 32nd degree.
Floyd believed a smile was worth a million dollars and a man’s word was everything. He had many friends and will be sadly missed.
The funeral will be March 24 at 2 at Bob Neal and Sons in Morrilton. Visitation from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, March 23. He will be laid to rest next to his loving wife in Kilgore Cemetery. Services and arrangements by Bob Neal and Sons Funeral Home of Morrilton.

Julia EVANS

Julia Evans, 91, of Solgohachia, died Friday, Nov. 17.
She was born Nov. 13, 1904 in Birdtown, a daughter of William and Nancy Gordon-Deaton. She was the widow of Floyd Evans Sr., a member of the Lone Grove Missionary Baptist Church and attended the Morrilton Senior Adult Center.
Survivors include one son, Floyd Evans Jr., of Solgohachia; one daughter, Marie Hagear of Merced Calif.; seven grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services were Monday, at 2 p.m. at the Bob Neal and Sons Morrilton Funeral Chapel with Bro. Charlie Johnson and Bro. Robert Payne officiating. Burial was in the Kilgore Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Glen Powell, Gerald Powell, Charles Conley, John Morrow, Clyde Ruff and Glen Sledge.
Memorials may be made to the Lone Grove Missionary Baptist Church or the Morrilton Senior Adult Center.


Emma Stephens-FLETCHER-Glover-Ross-Kilbreath

Emma Ross Kilbreath: Emma Alice Ross-Kilbreath, 89, of Piggott died Saturday, July 27, 1996 in Jackson TN. She was born Jan 14, 1907 in Shelby County TN, the daughter of the late Robert & Dora Doyle Stephens. She was also preceded in death by three children, Wesley, Francis and Alice; a brother Joe and sister Ruby McIntyre. She was a member of the Calvary Missionary Baptist Church in Piggott.
She is survived by her husband Denciel Kilbreath of Piggott; two sons John David Glover of Benton Ill and William Ross Jr. of Pocahontas; three daughters Inex Hill of Jackson TN, Lela Dishman of Tucson AZ and Grace Jones of Wilmington Ill; 32 grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 11am Tuesday at Calvary Missionary Baptist Church with Mike Cadwick officiating.
Burial was at Piggott Cemetery with Piggott Mortuary in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers were grandsons.

Imogene Bird-FRENCH

Imogene Gladys French, 77, of Canadian, Texas, formerly of Morrilton, died Sunday, June 6, 1999.
She was born Feb 20, 1922 in Birdtown, a daughter of S.P. Bird and Rose Gordon-Bird. She graduated from Nemo Vista High School in Center Ridge. She married J.D. French on March 13, 1946 in Russellville. They moved to Pampa in 1971 and then to Canadian in 1974. She was a manager at Little Scotty's Convenience Store for several years and was currently employed at the Oasis Truck Stop. Mrs. French was very active with Rachel's Little House Day Care. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star in Canadian and the First Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, J.D. French of Canadian Texas; one son, Kenny French of Morrilton; four daughters, Gwen Massingill and Margaret Canant, both of Morrilton, Cindy Gray of Conway and Sue Edwards of Dumas Texas; two brothers, Dewey Bird of Stigler Okla., and Huie Bird of Clarksville; eight grandchildren and one step-grandchild.
Funeral services were 2 p.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church in Canadian, Texas with the Rev. Jay McGauphy, pastor of the Temple Baptist Church in Dumas, officiating. Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Kilgore Cemetery near Solgohachia with Dr. Bill Brown officiating.
Funeral services were under the direction of Stickley-Hill Funeral Directors in Canadian. Graveside service will be by Harris at Harris Funeral Home.
Visitation will be 7-8 tonight (Wednesday).

James FRENCH

James French, 81, of Morrilton died July 21, 2004.
He was born Oct. 22, 1922, in Damascus, a son of Arthur Richard French and Neva Harper French. He was a retired cattle rancher and the widower of Imogene Bird French.
Survivors include his son, Ken French of Morrilton; four daughters, Gwen Massingill of Morrilton, Margaret Canant of Birdtown, Cindy Gray of Conway, and Sue Edwards of Houston, Texas; brothers, Jim French of Bull Shoals and Ted French of Charleston, S.C.; sister, Doris Underwood of Heber Springs; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were 4 p.m. Friday, July 23, at Kilgore Cemetery with Bro. Leon Hill officiating. Memorials may be made to the Kilgore Cemetery Fund, No. 1 Leman Jones Rd., Springfield, AR 72157.
Arrangements were by Harris Funeral Home of Morrilton.
Pallbearers were his grandsons. Honorary pallbearers were Tracy Drake and Kala McKirch.

Charlie Gordon, 78, of Clarendon, died Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2004.
He was born Feb. 15, 1926, in Center Ridge, a son of William Miles and Annie Bell (Oliger) Gordon. He served in the Navy. He was a graduate of the University of Arkansas of Fayetteville. He worked for the University of Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service for 32 years serving as agent in Mississippi and Lee counties and retiring as staff chairman of Monroe County.
He was a member of the Arkansas County Agricultural Agents Association and National Association of County Agricultural Agents, receiving the Distinguished Service Award in 1979. He was a member of the Clarendon United Methodist Church, a Mason, former member of the Clarendon Radio Club and charter member of the Clarendon Lions Club.
Survivors include his wife Ila Faye (Sigler) Gordon; one daughter, Gail Isabel of Rogers; one son, Eddie Gordon of Keiser; one brother, Olen Gordon of Bee Branch; one sister, Willie Mae Edwards of Bee Branch; three grandchildren; one stepgrandson, and one great-stepgrandson.
Funeral services were 2 p.m., Friday at the Clarendon Methodist Church with the Rev. Pat Litts. Burial was at Shady Grove Cemetery by Bob Neal and Sons Funeral Home, Brinkley.
Pallbearers were Garrett Murphee, Jeff Gordon, Shawn Watson, Shane Ellis, Mitch Crow, and Everett Dyer.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.


Charlie GORDON

Charlie Gordon's strong will to live was completed on Wednesday, September 1 at the Stuttgart Hospital in Stuttgart, Arkansas. He was 78 and had battled breathing disorders and cancer for a number of years in his later life. Charlie was born in Center Ridge, Arkansas on February 15, 1926 to the late William Miles Gordon and the late Annie Bell-Oliger-Gordon. He served in the U.S. Navy before obtaining a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in agriculture from the University of Arkansas of Fayetteville. On August 18, 1943, at Formosa, Arkansas Charlie was united in marriage to Ila Faye Sigler. They were blessed with two children, Gail and Eddie. Charlie worked for the University of Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service for 32 years, serving as County Extension Agent in Mississippi and Lee counties and retiring as staff chairman in Monroe County in 1987. He was a member of the Arkansas County Agricultural Agents Association and National Association of County Agricultural Agents, receiving the Distinguished Service Award in 1979. Charlie was a member of the Clarendon United Methodist Church, a Mason, a former member of the Clarendon Radio Club and a charter member of the Clarendon Lion's Club. A very caring man, Charlie was instrumental in helping a number of young people obtain scholarships to attend college and spent many hours working with the 4H clubs. He was a very talented and learned gentleman who enjoyed studying genealogy, having traced his family back to the 1700's. He studied the weather and its patterns, giving valuable information to the farmers and crop dust pilots. His hobbies included collecting cast iron collectable cars and Civil War memorabilia. He and his wife donated their Civil War book collection to the Clarendon Library. Charlie was also well known for his expertise in smoking and cooking meat as well as frying fish. He was a wonderful husband, father and friend who will be sorely missed. Charlie is survived by his wife of 61 years, Ila Faye Sigler-Gordon, one daughter Gail Isabel and husband Vern of Rogers, one son, Eddie Gordon and wife Carolyn of Keiser, one brother, Olen Gordon of Bee Branch, one sister, Willie Mae Edwards and husband Luther of Bee Branch, 3 grandchildren, Abbe Gordon of Clarendon, Jeff Gordon of Little Rock and Garrett Murphee of Fort Worth TX, step-grandson Shawn Watson and wife Peggy, step-great grandson Phillip Watson, all of Stuttgart. Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Elba and Archie Gordon and his sister, Ruby Shipp. Funeral services will be 2pm Friday at the Clarendon Methodist Church with Rev. Pat Litts. Burial will be in the Shady Grove Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Garrett Murphee, Jeff Gordon, Shawn Watson, Shane Ellis, Mitch Crow and Everett Dyer. The family will gather at the funeral home Thursday evening from 6-8pm to visit with friends. Memorial may be given to the American Cancer Society.


Elmer A. GORDON

Elmer A. Gordon, 83, of Springfield died Wednesday August 13 at a Morrilton hospital.
He was born at Center Ridge on April 18, 1892. He was a retired farmer and carpenter. He was a member of the Pleasant Springs Missionary Baptist Church where he served as deacon.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Ollie Meeler-Gordon; one son, Carl Gordon of North Little Rock; one daughter, Mr. Pauline Combs of Little Rock; one sister, Mrs. Sreathie Huett of Morrilton; three grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Funeral services were Friday at 2 p.m. at the Pleasant Springs Baptist Church by Elder Earl Smith and Elder Jerrell Harrison. Burial was at Kilgore Cemetery by Harris Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Jeff Williams, J.D. Barnum, Elmer Carroll, Leon Kellar, Royce Williams and Sam Harrington.


Elva Marie Baumgardner-GORDON

Mrs. Marie Gordon, Minister's Wife, Dies
Mrs. Elva Marie Baumgardner-Gordon, 69, of Beebee, wife of BMA minister W.S. Gordon, died April 21.
She assisted in her husband's ministry as he served as pastor, missionary and secretary of missions. She was active in the Women's Missionary Auxiliary and was a past president of the National WMA. She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church at Beebee. The Gordons celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last year, April 2.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday at the W.L. Westbrook Funeral Home at Beebee by Pastor Harrel Herring, Garland Gable and Jurl Mitchell. Burial was in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens.
In addition to her husband, she was survived by a son, John B. Gordon of Rolla MO; a daughter, Lynda Miller of Pine Bluff; a brother, Earl Baumgardner of Greenville MO; a sister, Leona Wheelis of Desloge MO; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Fred G. Gordon, 86, of Carlisle went to be with the Lord Sunday, August 19, 2007 at Conway Regional Medical Center. He was born at Bird Town, near Morrilton November 14, 1920 to John Bruce Gordon and Carrie Etta Tucker. He was married November 17, 1945 to Gladys Barber of Hamilton. He was preceded in death by his wife, one grandson, two brothers and four sisters. He is survived by a son Gary Gordon (Sissy) of Carlisle, a daughter, Mary Alice Shannon (Gary) of Conway; grandchildren, Shelley Brandon (Chad) of Carlisle, Monica Mathis (Chris) of Greenbrier, John Gordon, Joseph Gordon and Kathryn Gordon, all of Carlisle; five great-grandchildren and one brother, Lindel Gordon of North Little Rock.
He was a charter member and deacon of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Carlisle and a retired well driller. His family and community will miss him dearly.
Funeral Services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Union Valley Cemetery, Coy, AR near England. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Fred Gordon; one son, Gary Gordon of Carlisle and a daughter, Mary Alice Shannon of Conway; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Lena Gordon Horton, age 97, of Plumerville died Friday, August 1, 2003.
She was born June 19, 1906, in Solgohachia, Arkansas, a daughter of Paul Gordon and Cora Belle Atkinson Gordon. Mrs. Horton was the widow of Neil Hobbs Horton, a retired store owner, and member of Plumerville Methodist Church.
Survivors include her nephew and his wife John and Shiela Gordon of Solgohachia, and a niece Susan Gordon of Conway.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. (today) Wednesday, August 6, at Plumerville Methodist Church with the Rev. Von Dell Mooney officiating.
Arrangements are by Harris Funeral Home of Morrilton.

Mrs. Nancy Ann Deaton, aged 76, died at her home at 310 North St. Joe Street last Thursday at 12:25 p.m. She was born at Center Ridge May 2, 1875, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Alex Gordon. She was a member of the Pleasant Springs Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband W.R. Deaton of the home; one son, Alex Deaton of Morrilton; one daughter Mrs Julia Evans of LeGrand Calif; five sisters, Mrs. Emma Huett and Mrs. Narsis Bird of Birdtown, Mrs. Syretha Huett of England, Mrs. Cindy Scroggins of Nowata Okla. and Mrs. Allie VonOhlen of Illinois; and two brothers, Elmer Gordon of Birdtown and John Gordon of England; 11 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at the Kilgore Cemetery Sunday at 2:30p.m. Burial was in charge of Reid Funeral Home.

Olen Robert Gordon, 93, of Clinton, died Saturday, Oct. 21, 2006.
He was born March 11, 1913, in Center Ridge, a son of William Miles Gordon and Anna (Oliger) Gordon. He was retired from the Conway County Road Department and of the Church of Christ faith.
Survivors include his sister, Willie Mae Edwards of Bee Branch.
Funeral services were 1 p.m. Tuesday, at the Harris Chapel with Mr. Bruce Bryant officiating. Burial was at Halbrook Cemetery by Harris Funeral Home of Morrilton.
Pallbearers were Calvin Cates, Roger Edwards, Farris Bonds, Eddie Bryant, Ralph Bryant, and Brian Bryant. Honorary pallbearers were Donnie Burrough, Gerald Burrough, Tommy Mahan, and Dalton Jackson.

Ollie Gordon, age 98, of Mabelvale died Monday, March 22, 1999. She was a homemaker and a member of Pleasant Springs Baptist Church at Birdtown for many years and was presently a member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church in Little Rock. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Gordon.
She is survived by one daughter, Pauline Combs of Mabelvale; one son, Carl D. Gordon of North Little Rock; three grand-daughters; seven great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday March 25 at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church with Bro. Carrol Koone and Bro. Bobby Slagley officiating. A graveside service will be at 3:30 p.m. in Kilgore Cemetery at Birtdtown Ark. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Roller-Drummond Southwest, 455-5800. Lt. Col. Othello “Peck” Gordon, 94, of Solgohachia died May 30, 2003.
He was born September 30, 1908, in Solgohachia, Arkansas, a son of the late Paul and Cora Bell Atkinson Gordon. Mr. Gordon was the widower of Sarah Stanford Gordon, a retired inspector for Arkansas Pollution and Ecology Commission, a formal rural mail carrier, and retired from the Arkansas National Guard. He was also a 32nd degree Mason, a member of First United Methodist Church and a World War II Army veteran.
Survivors include his son and wife, John and Sheila Gordon of Solgohachia; daughter, Susan Gordon of Conway; sister, Lena Horton of Plumerville; and grandson and wife, Scott and Crystal Gordon of Houston, Texas.
Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church or the National Wild Turkey Federation. There will be no services. Arrangements are by Harris Funeral Home of Morrilton.

Paul DeWitt Gordon, 40, of San Francisco, Calif., formerly of Solgohachia, died Wed., Aug. 9.
Survivors include parents, Mr. and Mrs. Othello Gordon of Solgohachia; one brother, John S. Gordon of Alvin, Texas; one sister, Susan Gordon of Conway, Ark.; one nephew, Scott Stanford Gordon of Alvin, Texas; one aunt, Lena Hotten of Plumerville; one uncle and aunt, Dr. and Mrs. F. DeWitt Stanford of Orlando, Fla., and several cousins.
Paul graduated from Morrilton High School in 1972 and from Southwest State Univ. in Springfield, Mo., with a degree in education in 1976. He then received a degree in law from Rutgers Univ. School of Law in Camden, N.J., in 1979. He was a practicing attorney in Little Rock before moving to San Francisco, Calif., in 1985.
Because of his love for books and reading, contributions may be made to the Conway County Library or to the music fund at the First United Methodist Church in Morrilton because of his love of music.

Judge Robert Edgar Gordon, 78, of Plummerville, died Monday May 8.
He was born April 18, 1900 at Center Ridge, a son of William Gordon and Mrs. Laura Hill-Gordon. Judge Gordon was a retired farmer and in 1950 he was elected County Judge for Conway County where he served thru 1958. He was a member of the Plummerville Masonic Lodge No. 253 and a deacon of the Portland Baptist Church.
Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Etta Adams-Gordon of Plummerville; one brother, Jack Gordon of Plummerville; three sisters, Mrs. Cora Campbell, Mrs. Ollie Brand and Mrs. Hettie Eoff, all of Plummerville.
Funeral services were today (Wednesday) at 2 p.m. at the Portland Baptist Church by Rev. Earl Smith. Burial was at Plummerville Cemetery by Harris Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Jimmy Dale Campbell, Jarrell Brown, Bob Gordon, Grady Eoff, Fred Eoff, Glenn Campbell and Bobby Brown. Honorary pallbearers were deacons of the Portland Baptist Church.

Rolla, MO - Elder William Stanley Gordon, of Rolla MO, formerly of Pine Bluff and Beebee Ark., passed away on April 12, 1999 at the age of 91.
He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, John B. and Sondra Gordon of Rolla MO; one son-in-law, Don Miller of Pine Bluff; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Fred and Gladys Gordon of Carlisle, Lindell and Jean Gordon of Lonoke; one sister, Myrl Carpenter of Lonoke; three granddaughters - Pamela Miller and Janice Oaks of Pine Bluff and Tisha Clawson of Bolivar MO; two great-granddaughters; and two great-grandsons; and numerous nieces and nephews.
W.S. Gordon's adult life was dedicated to preaching the Gospel, pastoring churches in Missouri, Arkansas and California and working as editor of the Missouri Baptist Newspaper. During his 72 years in the ministry, he held many offices of leadership, both on district and state levels for the people he served.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. today at Westbrook Chapel with burial in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens by Westbrook Funeral Home, Beebe.

Lyonell Halbrook, 83, a lifelong resident of Cleveland, Arkansas, died Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2003, at his home.
He was born July 7, 1920, in Cleveland, Arkansas, a son of Andrew J. Halbrook and Hettie Rhoads Halbrook. Mr. Halbrook was a retired postmaster for the U.S. Postal Service, a member of Cleveland United Methodist Church, a farmer, and a Farm Bureau board member for over 30 years.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Louise Maxwell Halbrook.
Survivors include sons, James M. Skipper and wife, Ann, of Pearland, Texas, and John R. Halbrook and wife, Connie, of Atlanta, Georgia; daughters, Jeanne Skipper Rentfro and husband, Raymond, of Russellville, Arkansas, Brenda L. Tyler and husband, Rex, of Appleton, Arkansas, Marinelle Paladino and husband, Sonny, of Center Ridge, and Sherrye L. Futterer and husband, Bruce, of Russellville; sisters, Hettie Mae Hofherr and Reva Dale Thompson and husband, A.O. Thompson, all of Cleveland; grandchildren, Jimy, Louis, and John Skipper, Rebecca Skipper Hickman, Will Jameson, Jake Tyler, Josh Dalzell, Nell Dalzell Baker, Andrew Tyler Halbrook, and Sarah Louise Halbrook; great-grandchildren, Ky, Josie, Chloe, and Quinn Baker, and Aiden Dalzell; stepgrandchildren, Doug Tyler, Luke Jameson, Marylee Jameson Lajoie, Joe Futterer, Katy Futterer, and a large family of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Funeral services were 10 a.m. Saturday, December 27, at Cleveland United Metho-dist Church. Burial was at Old Liberty Cemetery by Harris Funeral Home of Morrilton. Pallbearers were his grandsons. Honorary pallbearers were Jerry Roberson, Jerry McCormick, Carl Koone, and Archie Campbell.

Jeff Hill, aged 77, died Tuesday,March 10 at his home in Center Ridge. He had been in poor health for the past three years. Before that time he was very active. He obeyed the gospel in 1874, and he lived a consistant Christian life. Mr. Hill is survived by his widow, six children, forty-four grandchildren. The children are: Allen Hill, Alex Hill, Mrs. Ollie Hesselbein, and Mrs. Ann Hensley of Center Ridge, Mrs. Cora Stobaugh of Spalding, Okla., and Mrs. Lizzie Gordon of Plummerville. He was born January 14, 1929, in Birdtown, Arkansas, a son of David Wesley Huett and Iris (Bishop) Huett. He was a retired trucking company owner and operator, of the Baptist faith, and Air Force veteran who served during the Korean Conflict.
Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Anita Crowell Huett of Morrilton; daughter, Angie Marie Baxter and husband Richard of Little Rock; three grandsons, Scott Wesley Young of Naples, Florida, Richard L. Baxter Jr., and wife Desi of Little Rock, and Tyler Ray Baxter of Glendale; great-grandson, Xander Girard Baxter; three sisters, Elsie Porter and husband Joe; Ila Davidson and husband Bo, and Wilma Branton; brother-in-law, Dennie Crowell and wife Becky; sister-in-law, Georgia Crowell; numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of friends. Funeral services were 1 p.m. Wednesday, January 3, at Harris Chapel with Pastor Steve Shepherd officiating. Burial was at Kilgore Cemetery by Harris Funeral Home of Morrilton.

He was born May 16, 1923, in Birdtown, Arkansas, a son of Milage Weldon Huett and Effie (Rogers) Huett. He was a past president of South Conway County School Board, past president of the Professional Insurance Agents of Arkansas, former Lions Club member, and former owner of Morrilton Insurance Agency, as well as a member of First Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Helen (Phipps) Huett of Morrilton; son, Mike Huett of Fort Smith, Arkansas; two daughters, Beth Medlock and husband Charles of Overland Park, Kansas, and Donna Parks and husband Billy of Springfield, Arkansas; brother, Eudel “Blue” Huett of Morrilton; eight grandchildren, Doug Medlock, Debbie James, Sheri Medlock, Amy Forsyth, Michael Huett, Paige Funkhouser, Zach Huett, and Holly Huett; and two great-grandsons, Aaron and Brett James.
He was preceded in death by a son, Alan Huett; brother, Jim Hayes Huett; and two sisters, Avis Mitchell and Sylvia Delaney.

Survivors include her son, Bobby Keith Mourot of Plumerville; daughter, Paula and husband, Major Anthony Gortemiller of Leavenworth, Kansas; brother, Willard Ogden and wife, Rosie, of Glendale, Arizona; and grandchildren, Tessie and Brandon Foiles, Collin Mourot, and Ian and Chase Gortemiller.

Leonard L. “Jack” Ogden Sr., 70, of Pine Bluff died Thursday, Oct. 9, 2003.
Born Feb. 6, 1933, in Morrilton, he was the son of Walter Earl and Ola Mae Ward Ogden.
He graduated from Plum Bayou High School. Mr. Ogden worked for Central Maloney for several years before opening his own business, Ogden Heating and Air, in 1978. He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Pine Bluff and was active in city government. He was also a member of the Jacob Brump Masonic Lodge and United Commercial Travelers.
Survivors include his wife, Joy Marie (Harper) Ogden; one son, Leonard L. Ogden Jr. of Pine Bluff; one daughter, Brenda Marie Scott of Pine Bluff; two brothers, Willard Ray Ogden of Phoenix, Ariz., and Rayburn Earl Ogden of California; one sister, Johnnie Mourot of Morrilton; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Survivors include three sons, Willard R. Ogden of Glendale, Ariz.; Leonard “Jack” Ogden of Pine Bluff, and Rayburn “Bud” Ogden of Union City, Calif.; one daughter, Johnnie Mourot of Plumerville; one brother, James Ogden of Morrilton; one sister, Pearl Green of Morrilton; 22 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Charley Pearson, 74, of Plumerville died Friday, Oct. 31, 2003.
He was born May 31, 1929, near Bee Branch, a son of W.R. Pearson and Charity Gordon Pearson. Mr. Pearson was a Korean War Navy veteran, receiving medals for Korean Service, United Nations, China Service, Navy Occupation, National Defense, and a Good Conduct Medal. He was a diesel engine salesman, a shop foreman for C.C. Jones Trucking in Plumerville, and a member of the Harding Street Church of Christ.
Survivors include his wife, Marlene Morrow Pearson; two sons, Donald Pearson of Center Ridge and Scott Pearson of Gallatin, Tenn; one daughter, Sharon Heffington of Morrilton; three brothers, Reedy Pearson of Dinuba, Calif., Rufus Pearson of Anton, Texas, and Hubert Pearson of Watseka, Ill.; five grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

Donald W. Reed Sr., age 83, of Concord, died Wednesday, March 28, 2007, at his home. He was born September 7, 1923 at Banner to Omer John and Iris Otha (Southerland) Reed. He was a retired truck mechanic having worked for Julian Martin Trucking in Batesville for several years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Concord.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Kitty Lynn Reed; four brothers, Roland Reed, Johnny Reed, Garland Reed and Connie Reed; one sister, Dorothy Sapp; and one grandson, Paul Glenn Reed.
Survivors include his wife, Jewell (Kerlin) Reed of the home; one son, Donald Reed Jr. of Concord; two daughters, Kathleen Ann Martin of Concord and Mary Alice Whitner of Batesville; one brother, Dale Reed of Concord; three sisters, Vera Johnston of Floral, Deannie Heidelburg of Providence and Oaklan Shelton of Cabot; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held March 31 at the Concord General Baptist Church in Concord with Bro. Noble Wiles officiating. Burial followed in the Concord Cemetery with arrangements by Qualls Batesville Funeral Service of Batesville.
Pallbearers were his grandsons, Wesley Martin, Clint Martin, Trenton Reed, Matt Dollar, Shawn Brock and Mark Millikin. Honorary pallbearers were Glen Kerlin and Eric Reed.

Ola Jordan-WARD

Ola Jordan-Foreman-Ward, 89, of Morrilton died Sunday, July 27, 2003.
She was born Sept. 8, 1913, in Center Ridge, a daughter of Moses Patrick Jordan and Lou Lane Jordan. Mrs. Ward was retired from Crompton Arkansas Mills, a member of the Morrilton First Free Will Baptist Church, and the widow of John Dewey Ward and Buck Foreman.
Survivors include three sons, Al Ward of Atkins, David Ward of Plumerville, and Gene Ward of Morrilton; and four daughters, Hazel Bowling and Johnnie Bost, both of Little Rock, and Wilma Bowling of Ashdown, and Pat Huett of Plumerville; two brothers, Doyle Jordan of Hayti, Mo., and Mozie Jordan of Morrilton; two sisters, Reba Bolton of Conway, and Juanita Bryant of Austin; 16 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were 2 p.m. Tuesday at Harris Chapel with the Rev. Gary Huett and the Rev. Wayne Pavatt officiating. Burial was at Kilgore Cemetery by Harris Funeral Home of Morrilton.
Pallbearers were grandsons, Carl Bowling, Mike Bowling, David Allen Ward, Scott Ward, John J. Ward, and Drew Huett.


Cecil SOUTHERLAND

Cecil Woodrow Southerland of Ida died December 16, 2003, at Beverly HealthCare in Heber Springs. Born in Ida on May 12, 1913, he was 90. He was the son of the late James Alfred and Cora Ellen (Reed) Southerland.
He was a farmer most of his life and he loved to hunt and fish. He was a disabled veteran, having served in the Unites States Army, and he was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans. He was nondenominational.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two daughters, Geraldine Rothwell and Cathaleen Liles; two brothers, Dewitt Southerland and Bud Southerland and three sisters, Edith Foust, Blanch Dill and Lillian Southerland.
He is survived by: his wife of 62 years, Helen (Altom) Southerland of Ida; two sons, Dale Southerland and James Southerland, both of Ida; two daughters, Maxine Byrd and Emogene Barnes, both of Ida; one sister, Opal Gefon of Heber Springs; 15 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by other relatives and his many friends.
Funeral services were held December 18 in the Olmstead Chapel with Pastor Odell Altom officiating. Interment with military honors by the V.F.W. Honor Guard followed in the Miller Cemetery. Pallbearers were his grandsons, Terry Byrd, Gary Byrd, Marc Rothwell, Russell Barnes, Brian Hannah, Barry Hannah and Daniel Southerland.
