Genealogical Use of this Webpage: Each NY county may be slightly different, but somewhere in that city you can find a County Clerk's Office (deeds and mortgages, sometimes the original censuses, sometimes old marriage records in registers, etc.), a County Surrogate's Court (probated wills and Letters of Administration), possibly an Archive (storing anything that the city and county do not want to maintain themselves), and possibly an historical society. Birth, death and marriage records would usually be kept by the city, town or village where the event took place. Sometimes, the Archive may have old marriage records (as in Albany Co.).

See my Guide to Albany Area Genealogical Resources which has information about various offices in the counties of Albany, Columbia, Greene, Montgomery (their superb Archive only), Rensselaer, and Schenectady.
