and

RESEARCH NOTES OF JANET HASELEY  - Oct 2001

On maps of the 1866 Beers atlas, property owners were shown with surnames and one or two initials.  Using the resources at the Rensselaerville Historic Society, Janet Haseley did extensive research to determine who

many of these people were.  The names that she found have been placed in square brackets [  ] below.  Even though a middle initial may have been given on the map, she may or may not have found it in the records.  In

almost all cases, the name in brackets is what she found in the records.

When Janet added names to Barbara Bolster-Barrett's transcription, her notes were longer than would fit on the property owners list that was made for the 1866 map.  Therefore, the notes are provided here for your research.  The notes include such additional information as spouses, relatives and occupations as well as the sources for the information.

Information taken from Rensselaerville Historical Society “Deeds & Leases” and
genealogy records, historical books and ledgers in the Society’s collection. Found by
Janet L. Haseley, Research Chair, RHS, October 2001. Abbreviations designate in which
historical record the names and/or authentication may be found:
D&L = RHS Deeds & Leases records
PMHH = People Made It Happen Here, published 1977 by RHS
Old Rv = Old Rensselaerville, published 1939 by Mary Fisher Torrance, reprinted with
     corrections 1998 by RHS
GB = RHS records in Genealogy books (50 looseleaf notebooks)
RL = Rice Ledger, store ledger from J. L. Rice & Son general store, 1862 (Note by Janet
Haseley: There are no lot #s listed in the Rice Ledger, so names found in the Rice
Ledger do not necessarily correlate with the Great Lot or hamlet listed here with the
name. They represent an “educated guess” and I believe they probably are correct,
     however.)

Rensselaerville Historical Society
Deeds & Leases notebooks include the following Great Lots:
Book 1: Great Lots 1-72
Book 2: Great Lots 73-144
Book 3: Great Lots 145-217
Book 4: Great Lots 218-289 (except 249)
Book 5: Great Lots 290-553
Book 6: Great Lot 249 which includes most of Rensselaerville hamlet
