Allora Violetta Womack was the daughter of Calvin McKelvin Cobb and Martha “Callie” Sigmon, the granddaughter of John Cobb and Sarah Bumgarner, the great granddaughter of Benjamin M. Cobb and Violetta Morris, and the great-great granddaughter of Clisby Cobb and Margaret Halsey Young.

 

Allora was born 25 May 1875, and died 20 August 1940.  She is buried at New Hope Methodist Church in Lincoln County.  She married 06 December 1903 in Lincoln, to Charles R. Womack.  He was born 21 September 1877, and died 26 June 1945.  He is also buried at New Hope.  After Allora’s death he married Mary Walker Morris.

 

The Womack’s had four children, all listed above.  Also shown in this household are her parents.  Her father Calvin died just five months after this enumeration, on 14 June 1920.  Her mother died 22 October 1932.  They are buried at New Hope Methodist Church in Lincoln County.

 

Before the next census in 1930, two of the Womack children married and established their own households.  Willie Thomas Womack married Gladys Grey Sherrill about 1925, and Rosantha Melvina married Thomas Odell Miller on 03 November 1928.

Grover A. Cobb was the son of Patrick Vann Cobb and Sarah Fish, the grandson of Calvin McKelvin Cobb and Callie Sigmon, the great grandson of John Cobb and Sarah Bumgarner, the great-great grandson of Benjamin M. Cobb and Violetta Morris, and the great-great-great grandson of Clisby Cobb and Margaret Halsey Young.

 

He was born 24 February 1894, and died 22 November 1954 in Lincoln County.  He married Girthia Nantz sometime before 1917.  She was born about 1892, and died 25 January 1981 in Lincoln County. 

 

They had four children; those listed above plus Girthie 1921, and Robert in 1924.  Walter and Robert disappeared after 1930.  The two girls each died at one year of age.

Patrick Vann Cobb was the son of Calvin McKelvin Cobb and Callie Sigmon, the grandson of John Cobb and Sarah Bumgarner, the great grandson of Benjamin M. Cobb and Violetta Morris, and the great-great grandson of Clisby Cobb and Margaret Halsey Young.

 

Patrick was born 28 March 1868, and died 27 July 1935.  He is buried at New Hope Methodist Church in Lincoln County.  He married in Catawba County on 18 January 1891, to Sarah R. Fish.  She was born 19 January 1872, and died 03 December 1947.  She is buried next to her husband.

 

Patick and Sarah had only two children; Grover shown above and daughter Cordia Eula who was born about 1896.  She married Roy Jones in Lincoln County on 17 November 1914.  On this enumeration they are shown in the household of her parents with their son Earl. 

 

The Jones’ were still living in Lincoln County in 1930, and then afterwards moved to Charlotte, North Carolina, where Cordia died 07 September 1949.

John Alexander “Jacob” Cobb was the son of Calvin McKelvin Cobb and Callie Sigmon, the grandson of John Cobb and Sarah Bumgarner, the great grandson of Benjamin M. Cobb and Violetta Morris, and the great-great grandson of Clisby Cobb and Margaret Halsey Young.  He was born in Catawba County on 05 March 1881, and died sometime after the 1930 census enumeration, probably in Lincoln County. 

 

John married Leckie Eva Lowe on 27 January 1901 in Lincoln County.  She was born in 1880, and died in May 1938.  Their place of burial is unknown.

 

John and Leckie had five children, all listed above ... Austin A. ... Floyd Louis “Claude” ... Harold Jacob ... Lander Marion (male) ... and Paul.  Before the next enumeration in 1930, both Austin and Claude married and moved out on their own.  The others were still living at home with their parents at that time.  

 

 

27 January - Lincoln Township - Lincolnton

John L. Cobb was the son of Joseph Cameron Cobb and Margaret Butts, the grandson of William Halsey Cobb and Jane Connely, and the great grandson of Clisby Cobb and Margaret Halsey Young.  He was born in Lincoln County on 16 April 1854, and died there on 14 June 1926.  He is buried at St Luke’s Episcopal Church in Lincolnton, next to his wife Lucy Schenck who was born 20 November 1862, and died 29 August 1892.  They apparently had no children that survived.

Junius William Cobb was the son of William Rufus Cobb and Sophia P. Abernathy, the grandson of Robert Cobb and Elenor Phillips, the great grandson of James Cobb and Sarah Beach, and the great-great grandson of Ambrose Cobb (Sr) from the 1790 census of Lincoln County.

 

Junius was born 24 June 1879, and died 07 November 1966.  He is buried at Wesley’s Chapel Methodist Church in Catawba County.  He married Willie Grace Hilton on 08 December 1901 in Catawba County.  She was born 24 June 1882, and died 20 February 1948.  She is buried beside Junius at Wesley’s Chapel.

 

Eight children were born to this marriage; the six shown above plus Bessie 1902, and Leona G. in 1922.  This enumeration is the last record of Mary Pearl and Roby L.  By the time of the next census in 1930, Robert had married Elizabeth Keen and moved to Maryland.  Ira Bain had also married and was living in Gaston County.  The others were still living with their parents.
