John Cobbs

1795-1847

Capt. John COBBS was born on April 16, 1795 in Halifax County, Virginia. He appeared on the census on June 1, 1830 in Mecklenburg County, Virginia. He moved in 1833 to Henry County, Tennessee. N. Christian.

55. Velpeau WHITLEY (Daniel Raiford-4, Sarah Elizabeth WALTON-3, Isabella Taylor COBBS-2, John-1) was born in October 1896 in Prairie County, Arkansas. He appeared on the census on June 9, 1900 in Prairie County, Arkansas (White River Township). He appeared on the census on January 5, 1920 in Prairie County, Arkansas (Belcher Township). At that time he and brother Daniel were living in the household of one William A. Thomason. He died in 1980 in Cleburne County, Arkansas (Heber Springs). He was buried in Ouachita County, Arkansas (Bearden).

He was married to Ida Joy GRAHAM before 1936. Ida Joy GRAHAM was born in 1902 in Bossier Parish, Louisiana (Plain Dealing). She died in Ouachita County, Arkansas (Bearden).

64. Verna Mae MCGOWAN (Margaret Unity "Maggie" WHITLEY-5, William Walton-4, Sarah Elizabeth WALTON-3, Isabella Taylor COBBS-2, John-1) was born on February 16, 1928.

She was married to Lozan Mitrovich POLLARD in 1946. Lozan Mitrovich POLLARD was born in 1923 in El Paso County, Texas (El Paso). He died on January 28, 2002 in Caddo Parish, Louisiana (Shreveport). He was buried in Caddo Parish, Louisiana (Forest Park Cemetery, Shreveport).

SHREVEPORT, LA - Funeral services for Lozan M. Pollard, 78, will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, January 31, 2002 at Rose-Neath's Southside Chapel. Officiating will be Rev. Robert Tillman, pastor of North Keithville Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Forest Park Cemetery, St. Vincent Ave. The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m., Wednesday, January 30, 2002 at the funeral home. Mr. Pollard, a native of El Paso, Texas and lifelong resident of Shreveport, LA, passed away Monday, January 28, 2002 in Shreveport, LA. Mr. Pollard served in the U. S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He was retired from construction as a metal lather. He was a member of North Keithville Baptist Church and deeply loved the Lord and his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Essie Pollard and a very special uncle, John O. Wood. Mr. Pollard is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Verna Pollard; three daughters, Kathie Tubbs and husband, Edwin, Patti Scarborough and husband, Cecil, and Janet Chaney and husband, Bear; seven grandchildren, Karen Guthrie and husband, Tom, Kimberly Griffin and husband, Chad, Kristen Gaskin and husband, Joey, Samantha Nixon and husband, Corey, Kelli Chaney, Ethan Chaney, and Stuart Chaney, and six great-grandchildren, Devin, Tyler, Morgan, Hannah, Makenna, and Andrew. He was greatly loved by his family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be Haywood Wallace, Tom McKinnon, F. A. Hill, and Tommy Cater. The family wishes to express a special thanks to Dr. P. V. Blanchard and the staffs of Willis-Knighton North and Lifecare Hospital. The family suggests memorials be made to North Keithville Baptist Church.
