BIOGRAPHY: The History of the Early Settlers of Sangamon County, Illinois: "James Sims was bo rn in Virginia, taken by his parents to South Carolina, where he was married to Dolly Spiller s. They had foud children there, and moved to Logan county, Kentucky, where they had one chi ld, and from there to Caldwell county, where three children were born; thence to St. Clair co unty, Illinois, and from there to Sugar Creek, Sangamon county, arriving in the sporing of 18 20 in what became Ball township, Sangamon, Illinois. He built a horse mill there to run by b ands. He quarried stone of the same kind of which the first State House in Springfield was b uilt, and by the aid of his brother-in-law, William Spillers, made the burrs for his mill. H e was the first Representative from Sangamon county in the State Legislature. He moved to Ro ck Creek in what is now Menard county, and from there to Morgan county. He was a Methodist p reacher, and formed the first circuit ever organized in Sangamon county." His torical Publishers, Chicago, 1882. Cass County. SAMUEL SINCLAIR, farmer, P.O. Ashland; is a native of Loudoun County, Va., son of George Sinc lair, a man of remarkable prudence and judgment, who brought up his family with great care . Our subject came to Morgan County June 8,1833, an anniversary of his birth, and entered 28 0 acres of land with a portion of $400, that he brought with him, afterward adding 40 acres m ore, making just one-half of a section. This land lies eight miles north-east of Jacksonvill e, near the little village of Sinclair, named in honor of our subject. After securing the la nd, be returned to Virginia, Loudoun County, and Oct. 28, 1834, married Miss Euphemia Craven , daughter of Josiah and Elizabeth (Shepherd) Craven, from which union there were born nine c hildren: George, Ellen, Peter Akers, Virginia, Henry Clay, May and James, twins, Ruth and Joh n. Mrs. Sinclair died April 23, 1861; she had been for many years a devout member of the Met hodist Church, and a lady of many lovable qualities. October 21, 1863, Mr. Sinclair married Miss Dolly Beggs, daughter of Charles and Mary (Rudale) Beggs; and two c hildren have blessed this second marriage: Emma Lou, and Maggie. The Sinclairs are of Scotc h lineage, and trace their ancestry back to the famous Clan-Sinclair, confreres of the Dougla ss and other noted Highlanders. George died 1850. Mr. Sinclair is a Christian gentleman, an d has been a strong Union man, having given three sons to the cause during the late war. He owns 887 acres of splendid land, which is under a high state of cultivation, an d contains all the modern improvements in farm appliances.

BIOGRAPHY: The History of the Early Settlers of Sangamon County, Illinois. "Stanley Thomas , was born March 23, 1790, in Virginia, and was taken by his parents to Ohio. Elizabeth Cent re was born June 22, 1790 in New York. She was married there to Andrew Campbell. He was a s oldier in the war of 1812, and was killed at the battle of Fort Meigs, leaving a widow and tw o children. Thomas Stanley was a soldier in the war of 1812 also, and after the war was marr ied to Mrs. Elizabeth Campbell. They had four living children in Ohio and moved to Sangamo n county, Illinois arriving in the fall of 1829. Thomas Stanley died in 1837 in Sangamon cou nty, and his widow lives (1875) with her daughter, Mrs. Joseph VanNatten, north of Springfiel d, Illinois."
