COIGACH COMMUNITY HERITAGE GROUP

COIGACH COMMUNITY HERITAGE GROUP

In October 2000 a Community-led excavation took place at Achnahaird Sands. The response from funding organisations, local people and tourists a like, was overwhelming. The project opened up all sorts of possibilities and sparked many suggestions of what we could do next.

To make this possible we have formed the Coigach Community Heritage Group. This organisation exists to enable local people and their children to form their own heritage based projects, be it in archaeology, local history, oral history or genealogy. All we need are the ideas, and most importantly, the support.

To this effect we will all have a say on what aspects of the history and archaeology of Coigach we want to record, interpret and conserve - for both intellectual and physical access. Help and training will be given in all aspects of the work, and where the need is wanting for specific projects, members can ask to be sent on specialist training courses available from within the wider Heritage network. We also envisage outings and activities, to join forces with other groups and a newsletter to keep everyone abreast of what is going on. Members will also be able to order any published work undertaken by the group at a discount price.

Have you an idea you would like to see come to fruition, or would you like to help realise a project? This can be done in a number of ways through practical and/or physical support, and will enable all members to take part in any aspect they are interested in. If you want to dig; then that's all you have to do, if you want to research genealogy; that is all you have to do. If you want to do nothing, but would like to help realise the potential, then all you have to do is join us.

Would you like to join us? Membership is 5 pounds. If you would like to support us or would like further details please contact either Frances Ross the Secretary on 622440, Bill Drake the Chairman on 622229, or Pauline Ward the Treasurer on 622471. Alternatively fill in this form and send it to;
