Alexander's marriage registration 23 February 1871 to Catherine McKenzie of Achiltibuie gives his mothers name as Ann McKenzie. Ann dies some time after this census, and Duncan remarries 17 January, 1856 to Margaret McLeod.
Roderick above marries 3 January, 1856 to Murdina McLeod of Achiltibuie, who is in this census as Servant to the MacLeod family three Households away at Polglass 51-47.

A daughter of this family, Margaret, "Peggy" in 1841, dies 28 October, 1857 at Polglass, single, aged 24 years, of "Childbed 5 days". The death registration confirms her mother Christian was Maiden Surname Fraser.

This family is in the 1861 census at Polglass 61-4, Hugh dies before then.
The death of Hugh is registered as 24 April, 1856 at Polglass, married (wife not identified), aged 43 years, parents both deceased, Roderick MacLeod and Ann, maiden surname MacKenzie, Informant his brother Roderick.
The Civil registration of Hugh and Ann's daughter Hughina 11 December, 1856 shows Anabella's maiden surname was Fraser.
Three brothers of Ann are in this census at Achiltibuie 51-77, her sister Margret is married to Kenneth McLeod at Achiltibuie 51-92, and her sister Hughina is married to John McLean at Achiltibuie 51-72.

In 1841 this family was listed at Achiltibuie 41-6, all Polglass families were counted with Achiltibuie that year. In 1861 they are at Polglass 61-19.
A daughter of this family, Catherine, has death registered as 1896 at Polglass, aged 52 years. Her parents are noted as having been Murdo Graham and Catherine, Maiden Surname McLean.
Parish Register records the marriage 2 March, 1827 of Murdo Graham Achiltibuie to Catharine McLean there.
I think young Kenneth shows up in the 1881 census at Achiltibuie 81-4.
Chirsty McKenzie, with a different spelling of her forename in each census, is with this family from at least this census to her death 1893. The registration notes her parents had been John MacKenzie and Isabella, Maiden Surname MacDonald.

Roderick was first married to Margaret MacDonald, their child Alexander is in the 1861 census at Badenscallie 61-15. Alexander dies 1 November, 1861, and his death registration with Samuel (above) as Informant gives the parents names, and notes Margaret was already dead.
Annabella has a sister in this census, Ann Graham, at Achiltibuie 51-84. Ann's 1856 death registration has young Samuel above as Informant, and notes the parents of Annabella and Ann were Duncan McGregor and Annabella, Maiden Surname MacKenzie.

This Household appears on page 16 of Enumeration District #7. All are listed as born at Lochbroom.
In 1841 this family was listed at Achiltibuie 41-10, all Polglass families were counted with Achiltibuie that year. In 1861 they are at Polglass 61-17.
Parish Register gives the marriage 14 February, 1823 of "Norman McKenzie Achiltibuie to Cathrine McLeod Aultandow".
Also registered was the christening of Donald MacKenzie to Norman 9 July, 1829 at Achiltibuie.
The 1874 death registration of Catherine says her parents had been Donald McLeod and Isabella, maiden surname McLeod. Norman dies later the same year, his parents noted as Kenneth McKenzie, and Henny, maiden surname McKenzie, however I think his mother and wife's names were transposed, the mother being identified as Catherine, maiden surname McLeod.
A daughter of Norman and Catherine, Isabella, is in this census as a visitor at Altandhu 51-101, shortly after she marries to Murdo McLeod of that family, they remain at Altandhu and have four children by the 1861 census. Their descendants include Dr.Neil MacLeod in California (CONTACT INFO).

In 1841 this family was listed at Achiltibuie 41-11, all Polglass families were counted with Achiltibuie that year. In 1861 they are at Polglass 61-16.
The Parish Register includes 15 January, 1824 the marriage of "Murdo McLeod Inverstrathan Coigach and Anable Lamont Bradach Assaint". Anabella dies a few months after the 1861 census, her death registration says her parents were William Lamont and Margaret McLeod.
Abigail ("Abby" above) marries 23 March, 1865 to John McLeod, they are in the 1871 census with four children at Polglass 71-60. Abigail and John were great-grandparents of Jim McGreal of Hamilton Ontario (CONTACT INFO).
With this family in 1841 was a son William, he is in this census as servant to a McKenzie family at Achiltibuie 51-74.
John above marries 23 December, 1858 to Margaret McRae, daughter of Norman McRae and Janet, Maiden Surname Kerr, she is in this census at Polglass 51-58.

Notes on this Household:
This Household appears on page 17 of Enumeration District #7. All are listed as born at Lochbroom.
In 1841 this family was listed at Achiltibuie 41-12, all Polglass families were counted with Achiltibuie that year. In 1861 they are at Polglass 61-14.
The Parish Register includes the christening of Murdoch Stewart to a father Duncan at Achiltibuie 15 July, 1822.
The Parish Register also has the registration of the marriage of Murdo Stewart to Christina McLeod 28 February, 1850, both are listed as resident at Polglass, though the forename of Christina's father is lost in the fold of the page.
Memorials at the Badenscallie burial ground include a tombstone erected by Murdo Stewart, to his wife Christina McLeod, stating she died 18 December, 1850 aged 25 years. Looks like Chirsty above was born at that time, and Christina died either in childbirth, or shortly after. Chirsty McLeod above is the only person I have seen so far in the Coigach censuses with occupation description as "Wet Nurse", clearly her charge was young Chirsty Stewart.
A daughter of this family, Christina or "Chirsty", married 9 January 1850 to Kenneth McLean of Altandhu. They are in this census with his family and a six month old son Duncan at Altandhu 51-99.
Alexander marries shortly before the next census, 7 February, 1861, to yet another Christina McLeod, who is in this census at Polglass 51-60. In the next census they are in the Household next to his mothers (on the same croft?) at Polglass 61-15.

Notes on this Household:
This Household appears on page 17 of Enumeration District #7. All are listed as born at Lochbroom.
In 1841 this family was listed at Achiltibuie 41-13, all Polglass families were counted with Achiltibuie that year. In 1861 they are at Polglass 61-12.
John's missing wife is Henny, she is with the family in both the 1841 and 1861 censuses.
John dies 3 September, 1861 of old age. Murdo was Informant on the death registration, and he lists his fathers age as "About 80 yrs". The registration says John's parents were John McLeod and Margaret McIver.
Not certain but I think Janet MacLeod in this census at Ardmair 51-41 is a daughter of John and Henny.
In the 1841 census with this family were Donald and Ann Campbell, Ann was a daughter of John and Henny. Ann is in this census in the next Household, Polglass 51-55, though Donald is missing. Most likely the two households are on the same croft.
Polglass 51-55
Ann Campbell Wife Mar. 27
Kenneth Do. Son 4
Isabella Do. Daur. 2

Peggy Stewart Serv. U. 15 General Serv.
Notes on this Household:
This Household appears on page 17 of Enumeration District #7. All are listed as born at Lochbroom, except Ann born at Gairloch.
Ann's missing husband is Donald Campbell, birth registrations of some of their children list Ann's maiden surname as McLeod.
Ann is a daughter of the McLeod family in the previous Household, Polglass 51-54, she and Donald were with them in 1841 at Achiltibuie 41-13 (all Polglass families were counted with Achiltibuie that year). I think it most likely the two households are on the same croft.
In 1861 this family is at Polglass 61-10.
Donald was christened 7 February, 1816 at Badenscallie as a son of Angus Campbell and Mary Stewart. In this census his Widowed mother and five siblings are at Badenscallie 51-41, Murdo Campbell at Achadh' a Bhraigh 51-18 is another brother, and Catharine McLeod at Polglass 51-65 is another sister.

This Household appears on pages 17 and 18 of Enumeration District #7. All are listed as born at Lochbroom.
Cannot yet clearly pick out Roderick or Catharine in the 1841 census, however in 1861 they are at Polglass 61-8.
Registrations shows Catharine was maiden surname Campbell.

Ann Graham Head U. 78 Pauper

Notes on this Household:
This Household appears on page 18 of Enumeration District #7. Both are listed as born at Lochbroom.
In 1841 these sisters were listed at Achiltibuie 41-16, all Polglass families were counted with Achiltibuie that year. In 1861 Peggy is at Polglass 61-7.
The 1841 census says both were not born in the County, and the 1861 census says Peggy was born at Assynt, so I think the enumerator made a mistake this year to say they were both born at Lochbroom.

In 1841 this family was listed at Achiltibuie 41-18, all Polglass families were counted with Achiltibuie that year. In 1861 they are at Polglass 61-30.
In the 1841 census Lauchlin was servant to a McLeod family at Achadh' a Bhraigh 41-2.
At the Badenscallie burial ground there is a flat stone inscribed; "Norman McRae, late catechist, Free Church of Scotland, parish of Lochbroom, died 20.3.1853 aged 70 years"
Donald McRae died 7 April, 1869 aged 49, He was a teacher and the Registrar up to that time. The entry gives his mother's maiden name as Janet Kerr & says his father Norman was previously a soldier in the 93d Regt. [later called the Sutherland Highlanders]. Janet is missing in this census but is widowed Head of Household in the next.
Peggy above marries 23 December, 1858 to John McLeod, he is in this census with his family at Polglass 51-52. They are in the 1861 census in the Household next to the MacRaes at Polglass 61-31, with a one year old son Norman clearly named to honour Peggy's father.
The Parish Register includes the christening of Mary McRae 7 February, 1830 at Achiltibuie to a father named Norman.
The Parish Register also includes the marriage 17 February, 1848 of a daughter of Norman McRae named Jane to Alexander McKenzie who was then resident at a place written unclearly, but seems to read as "Ballachladish, Par. of Assynt".

This Household appears on page 18 of Enumeration District #7. Both are listed as born at Lochbroom.

In 1841 Roderick (as "Rory") and his mother Ann were listed at Achiltibuie 41-19 with other family members including Ann's husband, another Roderick, all Polglass families were counted with Achiltibuie that year. In 1861 this family is at Achlochan 61-5.
The Parish Register records the marriage 1 June, 1847 between Roderick McLeod, a crofter resident at Achiltibuie, and Penelope McDonald, resident at Ullapool, daughter of "Murdo McDonald, Weaver, Tanera". Penelope's father and other relatives are in this census at Tanera 51-10.
In the 1841 census was a sister of Roderick, Jane, whose death (single) was registered as 14 July, 1860 at Polglass, Informant being her nephew James McLeod. The registration lists her parents (both dead then) as Roderick McLeod and Ann McKenzie. Ann is the 85 year old Widowed mother above.

Though enumerated as part of Polglass, this was an Achlochan family, all of which were enumerated as part of Polglass in 1851.
In the 1841 census this family was at Achlochan 41-1, in 1861 they are at Achlochan 61-1.
Murdo dies 1885 at Achlochan, age 81 years, Informant his son Donald. The registration notes Ann's Maiden Surname was MacLeod, and his parents had been Kenneth McLean and Mary, Maiden Surname Beaton.

Notes on this Household:
This Household appears on page 20 of Enumeration District #7. All are listed as born at Lochbroom.
In the 1841 census Catharine was with her Widowed mother Mary and other Campbell relatives at Badenscallie 41-23. Her father (and a brother) were named Angus, and she also names her own son Angus. Her mother and five siblings are in this census at Badenscallie 51-41.
The marriage of John McLeod, a Fisherman resident at Badenscally, to Catherine Campbell, daughter of Angus Campbell, was registered 28 January 1847. I cannot determine if John was at Badenscallie in the 1841 census.
In 1861 this family is at Polglass 61-13 with two children. That census gives John's place of birth as "Polew" (Poolewe is in Gairloch Parish).
Civil Registration of the birth of John and Catharine's daughter Isabella 26 June, 1856 confirms Catharine's maiden surname was Campbell.
Besides her siblings with her mother at Badenscallie, Catharine has a brother Donald Campbell (missing in this census) at Polglass 51-55, and Murdo Campbell at Achadh' a Bhraigh 51-18 is another brother.

Notes on this Household:
This Household appears on page 20 of Enumeration District #7. All are listed as born at Lochbroom.
In 1841 this family was listed at Achlochan 41-5, rather than moving crofts, I think the enumerators could not agree which hamlet this Household lived in! In 1861 they are enumerated as at Polglass 61-5.
Death is registered 1893 at Dornie of Donald MacLeod aged 92 years, Widower of Rachel MacLeod, with Informant his son John, parents noted as having been Murdo MacLeod and Mary, maiden surname MacLeod.
The Parish Register records the marriage 27 January, 1832 of "Donald McLeod Achiltibuie to Rachel McLeod Badinscally"

In 1841 this family was listed at Achlochan 41-4, and in 1861 at Achlochan 61-3. Rather than moving crofts, I think the enumerators could not agree which hamlet this Household was in!
Malcolm was a boatbuilder and carpenter, born about 1800 on the Isle Ristol. He married 24 June, 1828 to Janet "Jessie" McLeod, who was born at Badendaroch, Assynt, Sutherland. His death is registered 1889 at Achlochan, son of Murdo MacLeod and Mary, Maiden surname MacLeod. His father Murdo is in the previous Household Polglass 51-66 with the family of another son, Donald.
14 year old Catharine above was in the 1841 census with Malcolm's parents, Murdoch and Mary, at Achlochan 41-2.
A son of this family, John, is not with the family in this census, but in 1861 he is married and living in the Household next to his parents, see Achlochan 61-4.
Paulette Flint in Australia (CONTACT INFO) is her family's genealogist, her husband Ray is a descendant of Flora and Murdoch. Paulette has done lots of research on this family, and has provided most of the following info;
Malcolm and Jessie had six children;
Flora married Murdoch McLeod (born 1830, son of Donald who was born 1784 at Gairloch and Isabella Stewart), on 10 February, 1859.
Flora and Murdoch had a daughter Isabella, then emigrated to Queensland Australia. Their son William was born at sea. Their ten other children; Jessie, Roderick Donald, Christina, Mary, John, Christina, Jessie, Flora and George Alexander were born in Australia.

This family from earlier and later censuses was clearly enumerated wrongly in 1851! The surname in all other records is given as "McKenzie".
In the 1841 census they were at Badenscallie 41-17, in 1861 they are at Polglass 61-3.

This Household appears on pages 8 and 9 of Enumeration Division #1. All marked as born at Coigach, except Christina born at Assynt.
In the 1851 census this family was at Polglass 51-68, the enumerator that year mistakedly recorded their surname as "MacLean"! In 1871 they are enumerated in the neighbouring small community at Achlochan 71-67.
The Parish Register records the marriage 3 February, 1829 of "Murdoch McKenzie Badinscallie to Christian McCasgail Inverkirkaig Assynt".
Murdo's death is registered as having happened 27 January, 1887, occupation as Weaver, and listed as Widower of Christy McAskill. With Murdoch and Christina in 1871 is a 5 year old granddaughter Janet. The parents of Janet do not show up in 1871, and she is still with her grandparents in 1881, so I assume she was an orphan. Her parents were Angus McLeod, and Margaret McKenzie, the Margaret above.
Cannot see Isabella in the 1871 census, but she marries 25 December, 1872 to Samuel Grant who is in this census at Polglass 61-18.

The Civil registration of Hughina's birth 11 December, 1856 shows Anabella's maiden surname was Fraser, and her husband was Hugh.
Anabella was a Fraser from Achiltibuie, in this census she has five siblings there; two brothers, Donald and Roderick, at Achiltibuie 61-28, Murdoch at Achiltibuie 61-33, Margret McLeod at Achiltibuie 61-9, and Hughina McLean at Achiltibuie 61-36.

In the 1851 census this family was at Polglass 51-55. In 1871 they are at Polglass 71-43.
Ann's maiden surname was McLeod, as shown in the registration of births three of her and Donald's children and death of daughter Flora;
Donald was a son of Angus Campbell and Mary Stewart of Badenscallie, his Widowed mother and four siblings are in this census at Polglass 61-28. He also has a sister Catherine McLeod at Polglass 61-13, and a brother Murdo Campbell at Acheninver 61-3.
Ann's parents, John and Henny MacLeod, along with two of her unmarried siblings, are in this census at Polglass 61-12.
I suspect young Flora was enumerated twice, and is also the 9 year old Flora at Acheninver 61-3 as a visitor to Donald's brother Murdo Campbell. The death of Flora is registered as 5 September, 1870 at Polglass, aged 20 years, single,
Polglass 61-11
This Household appears on page 10 of Enumeration Division #1. All marked as born at Coigach.
In the 1851 census this family was at Polglass 51-60.
By time of the 1871 census at Polglass 71-44 Mary has died. In that census with John, his unmarried son Rodrick, and a servant Flora McKenzie from Morefield is a grandson of John, Alexander Stewart, son of John's daughter Christina who married Alexander Stewart 7 February, 1861.
Mary dies 29 April, 1862 at Polglass aged 50 years, her parents noted as having been Donald McLeod and Margaret, maiden surname McLeod, Informant was her son James.
John dies 1877 at Polglass. The registration confirms his wife Mary had been Maiden Surname MacLeod, and his parents had been Roderick MacLeod and Margaret, Maiden Surname not known to the Informant.
A daughter of this family, Margaret, dies unmarried 22 April, 1870 at Polglass aged 26 years. Her death registration
confirms her mother Mary was Maiden Surname MacLeod.
John and Mary's daughter Christina and her husband Alexander Stewart are in this census at Polglass
61-15.
No idea yet if Johanna was related to this family, but it is likely she was the Johanna at Achiltibuie 41-24, and in 1891 at Achiltibuie 91-80.
Polglass 61-12
This Household appears on page 10 of Enumeration Division #1. All marked as born at
Lochbroom.
This family was in the 1851 census at Polglass
51-54, though Henny was missing that year.
A few months after this census, 3 September, 1861, John dies of old age.
Murdo was Informant on the death registration, and he lists his fathers
age as "About 80 yrs". The registration says John's parents were John
McLeod and Margaret McIver.
Henny also dies sometime before the 1871 census, and the two children
are then at Polglass 71-45.
Ann Campbell at Polglass 61-10 is a daughter of John
and Henny.
Polglass 61-13
This Household appears on pages 10 and 11 of Enumeration Division #1. All marked as born at
Coigach, except John at "Polew" (Poolewe in Gairloch Parish).
In the 1851 census John and Catharine were without children at Polglass 51-65. In 1871 Catharine and Isabella are at Polglass 71-46, no idea yet where John or Angus are then.
Catharine's mother and four Campbell siblings are in this census at Polglass 61-28, another of her sisters, Mary, is Widowed
with a one year old son at Polglass 61-29, Murdo
Campbell at Acheninver 61-3 and Donald
Campbell at Polglass 61-10 are brothers.
Civil Registration of the birth of Isabella 26 June, 1856 confirms
Catharines maiden surname to be Campbell.
Polglass 61-14
This Household appears on page 11 of Enumeration Division #1. All marked as born at
Coigach, except Anabella Stewart listed as born at Lochbroom.
In the 1851 census this family was at Polglass
51-53, in 1871 they are at Polglass 71-48.
Murdoch, though marked above as unmarried, was a Widower (of Christina
McLeod), Catherine above appears in other censuses as Christina or
Chirsty, and was Murdoch's daughter, born when his wife died.
Alexander Stewart in the next Household, Polglass
61-15, is another son of Anabella, he married a few months before this
census, 7 February, 1861, to another Christina McLeod. My guess is
Alexander's house was on the same croft as his mothers.
Polglass 61-15
This Household appears on page 11 of Enumeration Division #1. Both marked as born at
Coigach.
In the 1851 census Alexander was with his Widowed mother and family at
Polglass 51-53. That family is in this census in the
previous Household, Polglass 61-14, and I guess the two
Households were on the same croft.
Christina was a McLeod, her parents John and Mary are in this census at
Polglass 61-11.
Alexander and Christina married a few months before this census, 7
February, 1861. In the 1871 census they are at Polglass
71-47 with three children, but their son 6 year old son Duncan is then
in the next Household, the home of Alexander's mother Anabella and his
brother Murdoch, at Polglass 71-48.
Polglass 61-16
This Household appears on page 11 of Enumeration Division #1. All marked as born at
Coigach, except Anabella marked as born in Assynt.
In the 1851 census this family was at Polglass
51-52. In 1871 Murdo with two of his sons is at Polglass 71-49.
The Parish Register includes 15 January 1824 the marriage of "Murdo
McLeod Inverstrathan Coigach and Anable Lamont Bradach Assaint".
Anabella dies a few months after this census, 3 September, 1861, of
Typhus. Murdoch was Informant on the death registration, and says her
parents were William Lamont and Margaret McLeod.
Young Abigail above married 23 March 1865 to John McLeod, they are in
the 1871 census with four children at Polglass 71-60.
Abigail and John were great-grandparents of Jim McGreal of Hamilton
Ontario (CONTACT INFO) through their son
Angus (eight years old in the 1891 census).
William McLeod at Achiltibuie 61-41 is a
son of Murdoch and Anabella.
Polglass 61-17
This Household appears on page 11 of Enumeration Division #1. All marked as born at Coigach.
This family was in the 1851 census at Polglass 51-51. In the next census they are at Polglass 71-50,
with Roderick married as Head of the next Household at Polglass 71-51.
Parish Register gives the marriage 14 February, 1823 of "Norman McKenzie Achiltibuie to Cathrine McLeod Aultandow", Catherine's maiden
surname as MacLeod, is confirmed in son Roderick's 1887 death registration.
The 1874 death registration of Catherine says her parents had been Donald McLeod and Isabella, maiden surname McLeod. Norman dies later
the same year, his parents noted as Kenneth McKenzie, and Henny, maiden surname McKenzie, however I think his mother and wife's names were
transposed, the mother being identified as Catherine, maiden surname McLeod.
A daughter of Norman and Catherine, Isabella, was in the 1851 census as a visitor at Altandhu 51-101, shortly
after she married to Murdo McLeod of that family, they are in this census with four children at Altandhu 61-8.
Isabella died 6 April, 1869 at Altandhu, age 39 years, having suffered her last seven years from consumption, Their descendants include
Dr.Neil MacLeod in California (CONTACT INFO).
Polglass 61-18
This Household appears on pages 11 and 12 of Enumeration Division #1. All marked as born at
Coigach. The age of Donald has the last digit heavily written over; it might have been changed.
In the 1851 census this family was at Polglass 51-50. By 1871 Roderick has died, and Anabella is at Polglass 71-52 with five children.
The Parish Register includes the marriage 31 March, 1825 of Rodk. Grant Airdmare and Annabel McGregor Achiltibuie.
Roderick was first married to Margaret MacDonald, their child Alexander is in this census at Badenscallie 61-15. Alexander dies 1 November, 1861, and his death registration with Samuel (above)
as Informant gives the parents names, and notes Margaret was already dead.
Roderick himself has death registered as 29 April, 1865 at Polglass, aged 83 years. His parents noted as having been John
Grant, a Private of the 73rd Regiment, and Ann, maiden surnamed MacLeod. Informant his son Donald.
Samuel marries 25 December, 1872 to Isabella McKenzie, who is in this census at Polglass 61-3.
Polglass 61-19
This Household appears on page 12 of Enumeration Division #1. All marked as born at Coigach. The initial in Roderick McLeod's name is
indistinct, it might be an "N".
In the 1851 census this family was at Polglass 51-49. In 1871 they are at Polglass
71-53.
Catherine's death is registered as 1896 at Polglass, aged 52 years. Her parents are noted as having been Murdo Graham and
Catherine, Maiden Surname McLean.
Christina McKenzie, with a different spelling of her forename in each census, is with this family from at least the 1851
census to her death 1893. The registration notes her parents had been John MacKenzie and Isabella, Maiden Surname MacDonald.
Polglass 61-20
This Household appears on page 12 of Enumeration Division #1. All marked as born at
Coigach, except Ann marked as born in Assynt, and Flora marked as born at
"CaithnessShire Hans.." (end of placename indistinct).
This family was in the 1851 census at Polglass
51-63. In 1871 they are at Polglass 71-54.
Ann's maiden surname was also McLeod, it is shown in the civil
registration of the death of their child Kenneth, aged 9 months on the 9th
of July, 1856.
Also recorded are births of two of the children;
Roderick McLeod at Achlochan 61-5 is a brother of Hugh.
Polglass 61-21
This Household appears on page 12 of Enumeration Division #1. All marked as born at Coigach.
In the 1851 census this family was at Polglass 51-46. In 1871 they are at Polglass 71-55.
Kenneth Campbell married Mary Stewart 1 February, 1865, in 1871 they are next to his parents at Polglass 71-56, the marriage registration notes Mary was resident at Achiltibuie, her parents Kenneth Stewart and Mary, maiden surname MacLeod (deceased). Mary was with her Widowed father and a brother in this census at Achiltibuie 61-14.
The Parish Register records the marriage 17 February, 1826 of "Alexr. Campbell and Christian Fraser Coigach".
A daughter of this family, Margaret, "Peggy" in 1841, dies 28 October, 1857 at Polglass, single, aged 24 years, of "Childbed 5 days". The death registration confirms her mother Christian was Maiden Surname Fraser. I cannot see the birth of John Tolmie in the I.G.I., perhaps he was the child Peggy died birthing.
Polglass 61-22
This Household is on pages 12 and 13 of Enumeration Division #1. All marked as born at
Coigach.
In the 1851 census Mary and her brother James were with their Stewart family at Badenscallie
51-42. Also with them then was a brother Kenneth, who by time of the 1871 census has married Ann Campbell, and taken over
this croft, see Polglass 71-57.
Mary wed Duncan McLean 18 January, 1855, cannot find young Christina in the civil registration index, but Duncan above is
registered as born 14 August, 1857.
Duncan MacLean was in the 1851 census, with his siblings Isabella and Murdo above, at Polglass 51-45.
Mary and James have three other siblings in Polglass in this census; John and Kenneth at Polglass
61-26, and Murdoch at Polglass 61-27.
Murdoch dies 21 February, 1862 at Polglass, Informant his sister Isabella. The death registration shows their parents to
have been Kenneth MacLean and Christina MacKenzie.
Polglass 61-23
This Household is on page 13 of Enumeration
Division #1. All marked as born at Coigach.
Roderick was in the 1851 census at Polglass 51-44
with his parents and siblings, in this census that family is in the next
Household at Polglass 61-24 (Roderick's mother Ann died
between 1851 and 1854, and his father Duncan has remarried to a Margret
McLeod). I wonder if the two Households were on the same croft?
Murdina was a daughter of Alexander McLeod and Mary McDonald, she was
christened 25 October, 1829 at "Achiltibuy". She was in the last census as
servant to a McLeod family three Households away from Roderick's
McKenzies, see Polglass 51-47.
In the 1871 census Roderick, Murdina, and four children are at Polglass 71-58.
The Civil Registration index records the marriage 3 January
1856 of Roderick McKenzie to Murdina McLeod. Also shown are the births of
seven of their children;
The death of young Murdo above was registered 18 April 1861, aged 1
year at Polglass, with parents listed as Roderick McKenzie and Murdina
McLeod.
The son of Roderick and Murdina named Alexander is with Murdina's
mother Mary in this census at Achiltibuie
61-37, he is still there in the 1871 census at Achiltibuie 71-33.

In the 1851 census this family was at Polglass

this census in the previous Household (on the same lot?) at Polglass 61-23. Interesting that Duncan had two sons named
Roderick!
In 1871 this family is at Polglass 71-59
Duncan McKenzie and his first wife Ann McKenzie were gt.gt.gt.
grandparents of Cela Beale (CONTACT INFO).
She has done lots of research on these McKenzies and provides the
following info;
Alexander marries 23 February, 1871 to Catherine McKenzie, whose family
is in this census at Achiltibuie 61-30 (not
sure where Catherine herself is!). They are in the 1871 census with her
family at Achiltibuie 71-27. The marriage
registration lists Alexander's mothers name as Ann McKenzie. Alexander and
Catherine are Cela's ancestors.
The registration of the birth of young Roderick above 11 January, 1857
lists his mother's maiden surname as McLeod. Duncan's first wife Ann
McKenzie died sometime between the 1851 census and his marriage to
Margaret McLeod above which was registered 17 January, 1856.
The O.P.R. includes the marriage 5 March, 1833 of "Duncan Mackenzie
Achiltibuie and Ann Mackenzie Badinscally". Alexander gives Achiltibuie as
his place of birth about 1838 on the 1871 census, though the family was
listed at Polglass from the 1841 census on.
Duncan died in 1888 aged 81, his death registration lists his father as
Roderick, and says he was then married to Margaret McLeod. The death
registration also lists his mother as Christy Mackenzie (Christina on his
marriage registration) Duncan's parents both died before his marriage 17
January, 1856 to Margaret McLeod from Isle of Martin.
Margaret Macleod's parents were also deceased by by time of her
marriage in 1856. They were Murdoch Macleod, catechist and Mary (maiden
name Stewart).

time of the next census in 1871 they return there, see Badenscallie 71-116.
In the 1871 census young Janet and her as yet not born brother Angus were enumerated twice! Both with their mother at
Badenscallie, and with their aunt Flora Stewart (Murdoch's sister) at Polglass 71-61.
The Civil Registration index records the marriage both 3 and 4 January, 1855 of Murdoch Stewart to Mary Stewart, and the
births of six children to this couple;
Murdoch has four other siblings in Polglass in this census; John and Kenneth in the previous Household at Polglass 61-26, and Mary McLean with James Stewart at Polglass 61-22.
Polglass 61-28
This Household is on page 14 of Enumeration Division #1. All marked as born at Coigach.
In the 1851 census this family was at Badenscallie 51-41. In 1871 they are at Badenscallie 71-69. With them then is their Widowed sister Mary, who is in this census in the next Household at Polglass 61-29.
Another daughter of this family, Cathrine, is in this census with her husband John McLeod and two children at Polglass
61-13.
Donald Campbell at Polglass 61-10 is a son of Mary, and Murdo Campbell at Acheninver
61-3 is another son who has in his Household not only his wife and four children, but also a daughter of Donald, Flora, and a sister,
Ann, it looks like the Ann in this Household was enumerated twice!
Earlier censuses show that Mary's maiden surname was Stewart, and her husband had been Angus Campbell.
Mary's death is registered 1874 at Badenscallie, her parents noted as having been Murdo Stewart and Flora, maiden surname MacLeod.
Informant was a Murdo Stewart, relationship not stated though likely her brother. Her husband had been Angus Campbell.
Polglass 61-29
This Household is on page 14 of Enumeration
Division #1. Both marked as born at Coigach.
Mary was in the 1851 census with her mother and four siblings at Badenscallie 51-41. In the 1871 census Mary is
at Badenscallie 71-69 again with her mother
and three of her siblings. Her mother and siblings are in this census in
the previous Household at Polglass 61-28.
The civil registration index records the marriage 16 December, 1858 of
Donald McKenzie to Mary Campbell, also recorded is a birth to that couple;
Donald b.7 September, 1859. Pretty certain Mary above gave her maiden
surname to the enumerator.
A sister of Mary, Cathrine, is in this census with her husband John
McLeod and two children at Polglass 61-13.
Donald Campbell at Polglass 61-10 is a brother of
Mary, and Murdo Campbell at Acheninver
61-3 is another brother who has in his Household not only his wife and
four children, but also a sister of Mary, Ann, and a daughter of Donald,
Flora.
Polglass 61-30
This Enumeration District (Number 1) in 1861 included on the last page
a schedule headed List of persons temporarely absent of the Settled
inhabitants from the Enumeration Division on the night of Aprl. 7.
A member of this family is in that schedule, listed as "At Sea";
This Household is on page 14 of Enumeration
Division #1. All were listed as born at Assynt, except Murdo born at
Coigach.
In 1851 this family was at Polglass 51-58, with
Janet's then living husband Norman as Head of Household. Janet with her
two unmarried children John and Ann is in the 1871 census at Achiltibuie 71-1.
Margret McLeod in the next Household, Polglass
61-31, is a daughter of Janet.
Janet was maiden surname Kerr.
At the Badenscallie burial ground there is a flat stone inscribed;
"Norman McRae, late catechist, Free Church of Scotland, parish of
Lochbroom, died 20.3.1853 aged 70 years"
Donald McRae died 7 April, 1869 aged 49, He was a teacher and the
Registrar up to that time. The entry gives his mother's maiden name as
Janet Kerr & says his father Norman was previously a soldier in the 93d
Regt. [later called the Sutherland Highlanders]. Donald was Enumerator for
this census division in 1861, see district.htm.
Polglass 61-31
This Household is on page 14 of Enumeration Division #1. John and Norman marked as born at
Coigach, Margret marked as born in CaithnessShire at a place named "Cha..." (indistinct ending). The 1871 census seems to
spell her place of birth in CaithnessShire as either "Strathfield" or "Heathfield".
Margret is a daughter of Janet McRae in the previous Household, Polglass 61-30, since the last census
when she was with her McRae family at Polglass 51-58 her father Norman has died, clearly young Norman
above was named in honour of Margret's father.
In the 1871 census this family is at Polglass 71-41, John and Margret have four children, including
Norman, with them then.
The marriage of John McLeod to Margret McRae was registered as 23 December, 1858 at a placename indistinct near Ullapool
that looks like "Kenchulles", possibly "Kenachulish". His parents noted as Murdo McLeod and Annabella, Maiden
Surname Lamont, and hers as Norman McRae, Catechist (Deceased) and Janet, Maiden Surname Kerr.
Recorded in the I.G.I. are the births of six children to this couple;
Polglass 71-36
This Household appears in Enumeration District 1, page 9. They were both marked as born at Polglass. It appears the Enumerator did not
transcribe the top half of this Household, which would have included the Head of Household that Ann's cousin relationship was to.
In the 1861 census this family was at Polglass 61-1.
In 1881 these two are at Polglass 81-22, with an
unmarried sister of Ann named Cathrine (Ann and Cathrine listed as aunts
of Mary, reinforcing the assumption above that the first part of the
enumeration of the family in 1871 is missing).
Mary's mother Ann died a few months after the 1861 census, of "Supposed
Typhus Fever", 10 August, 1861. Her death registration had her son Duncan
as Informant, Ann's maiden surname was Graham, and her husband had been
Kenneth McLean.
Polglass 71-37
This Household appears in Enumeration District 1, page 9. They were all
marked as born at Coigach.
Not certain where this family was in the 1861 census, but Flora and
Kenneth are in the 1881 census at Polglass 81-23.
Polglass 71-38
This Household appears in Enumeration District 1, page 9. They were all
marked as born at Coigach.
In the 1861 census this family was at Polglass 61-4,
Anabella was Widowed sometime between the 1851 and 1861 censuses.
Roderick was unmarried in the 1861 census, at the home of his brother
Donald at Achiltibuie 61-28.
"Huina" though marked with a "Do" ("Ditto") by the enumerator for a
surname of Fraser, appears as "Hughina" McLeod in other records, she was a
daughter of Anabella and her late husband Hugh.
Donald Fraser was a son of Roderick Fraser (above), and Mary McLeod,
born 19 December, 1865. Civil Registration shows the marriage of that
couple 10 March, 1864, and also the birth of their daughter Mary 21 October
1867.
Siblings of Anabella and Roderick in this census are; Margaret McLeod
at Achiltibuie 71-9, Donald Fraser and Hughina
McLean at Achiltibuie 71-24, and Murdoch
Fraser at Achiltibuie 71-31.
Polglass 71-39
This Household appears in Enumeration District 1, page 9. They were all marked as born at Lochbroom. The age of Hugh is indistinct, it may read as 28, or as 26, which would accord with his age marked as 16 in the 1861 census.
In the 1861 census this family was at Polglass 61-5. With them then was Donald's father Murdoch.
Death is registered 1893 at Dornie of Donald MacLeod aged 92 years, Widower of Rachel MacLeod, with Informant his son John, parents noted as having been Murdo MacLeod and Mary, maiden surname MacLeod.
By 1881 Donald is Widowed, and is with his unmarried children John and Isabella at Polglass 81-24.
Malcolm McLeod at Achlochan 71-63 is a brother of Donald, and also is an ancestor of the husband of Paulette Flint in Australia; CONTACT INFO.
The Parish Register records the marriage 27 January, 1832 of "Donald McLeod Achiltibuie to Rachel McLeod Badinscally"
Polglass 71-40
This Household appears in Enumeration District 1, page 9. John was marked as born at Achnahaird. Ann at Assynt, and the other two at Achiltibuie.
In the 1861 census John and Ann with five children were at Polglass 61-6.
Polglass 71-41
This Household appears in Enumeration District 1, pages 9 and 10. They were all marked as born at Polglass, except Margaret born at Strathfield in CaithnessShire, though the spelling is indistinct, and might read as "Heathfield".
In the 1861 census John and Margret with Norman were at Polglass 61-31.
Margret's Widowed mother Janet McRae is in this census at Achiltibuie 71-1.
The civil registration index records the marriage 23 December, 1858 of John McLeod to Margret McRae. Also recorded are the births of six children to this couple;
In the 1901 census John with daughters Jessie and Williamina is at Inverness, with Williamina's husband, Murdoch MacKenzie from Assynt. John is noted then as "Formerly Store Keeper".
Polglass 71-42
This Household appears in Enumeration District 1, page 10. Roderick is marked as born at Ullapool, Cathrine and Mary at Badinscally, and no place of birth noted for Margret.
In 1861 the family was at Polglass 61-8. In 1881 they are at Polglass 81-19. Margret was in the Household next door then (and in earlier censuses with her unmarried sister Ann), at Polglass 61-7. I think Margret was a cotter in a simple home on the McKenzie croft. Registrations shows Cathrine above was maiden surname Campbell.
Polglass 71-43
This Household appears in Enumeration District 1, page 10. Donald marked as born at Badinscally, Ann at Milton (a place in Gairloch Parish according to the 1881 census), and the children all at Polglass.
In the 1861 census this family was at Polglass 61-10, in 1881 they are at Polglass 81-2.
Ann's maiden surname was McLeod, as shown in the registration of three of her and Donald's children;
Since the 1861 census Ann's parents died, but two of her unmarried siblings and a cousin are a few Households away at Polglass 71-45.
Donald's mother Mary and four siblings are in this census at Badenscallie 71-69, Catherine McLeod at Polglass 71-46, and Murdo Campbell at Achadh' a Bhraigh 71-94 are his siblings.
Polglass 71-44
This Household appears in Enumeration District 1, page 10. John and Rodrick are marked as born at Achiltibuie, Flora at
Morefield, and Alexander at Polglass.
In the 1861 census John and Rodrick were at Polglass 61-11 with John's wife Mary, and three other sons.
John dies 6 June, 1877 at Polglass, aged 76 years, Informant his son Donald. The registration notes that his wife had been
Mary, Maiden Surname MacLeod, and his parents had been Roderick MacLeod and Margaret, Maiden Surname not known to the
Informant.
Roderick above marries 1 April, 1875 to Chirsty McLean, she is in this census with her family at Altandhu 71-38. They are in the 1881 census at Polglass 81-17 with three young
children.
Alexander's parents, Alexander Stewart and Christina McLeod (a daughter of John), are in this census a few Households away
at Polglass 71-47.
Polglass 71-45
This Household appears in Enumeration District 1, page 10. Murdo was
marked as born at Polglass, and the three ladies all born at Milton (a
place in Gairloch Parish).
In the 1861 census this Murdo and Isabella were with their then living
parents at Polglass 61-12.
Murdo and Isabella (as "Bella") are in the 1881 census at Polglass 81-16. Murdo marries 2 January, 1873 to Annabella
Fraser in Gairloch Parish, she and four of their children are also in the
1881 census. I wonder if Annabella was a relative of Janet Fraser above?
Ann Campbell, two Households before this one at Polglass
71-43, is a sister of Murdo and Isabella.
A few Households after this one at Polglass 71-51
has Mary McKenzie from Milton as Wife of the Head of Household, I wonder
if she was a relative of Barbra above?
Polglass 71-46
This Household appears in Enumeration District 1, page 10. Cathrine was
marked as born at Badinscally, and Isabella at Polglass.
In the 1861 census these two were at Polglass 61-13,
with them then was Cathrine's now missing husband John. The family is in
the 1881 census at Polglass 81-15, with John as Head of
Household.
Civil Registration of the birth of Isabella 26 June, 1856 shows
Catharines maiden surname to be Campbell.
Catherine's mother Mary and four siblings are in this census at Badenscallie 71-69, Donald Campbell at Polglass 71-43, and Murdo Campbell at Achadh' a Bhraigh 71-94 are her brothers.
Polglass 71-47
This Household appears in Enumeration District 1, page 11. Alexander was marked as born at Achiltibuie, the rest at Polglass.
In the 1861 census Alexander and Christina were at Polglass 61-15. In 1881 Alexander is a Widower with seven
children, including a one year old, at Polglass 81-14.
Sadly, young John dies 31 July, 1874, aged 5 years, the registration notes his parents were Alexander Stewart and Christina, maiden surname MacLeod.
A 4 year old son of Alexander and Christina, also named Alexander, is in this census with Christina's father John McLeod a few Households away at Polglass 71-44.
Another 6 year old son of Alexander and Christina, named Duncan, is in the next Household, Polglass 71-48, with Alexander's mother Anabella and other relatives.
Polglass 71-48
This Household appears on page 11 of Enumeration District #1. Murdo is
marked as born at Achiltibuie, Ketty and Duncan at Polglass, Anabella at
Ardisin (sp?), James McDonald at Fores Alvis, Roderick McRae at Assynt,
and Margret McRae on the Isle of Martin.
In the 1861 census this family was at Polglass
61-14. In 1881 they are at Polglass 81-13.
Murdo married a Christina McLeod 28 February, 1850, there is a stone
at the Badenscallie burial grounds for Christina saying she died 18
December, 1850 aged 25. It looks like she died in childbirth or shortly
after of young Christina above.
Young Duncan was born 21 February, 1865, his parents Alexander Stewart
(son of Anabella) and Christina McLeod are in this census in the previous
census at Polglass 71-47, probably the two homes were
on the same croft.
The Parish Register includes the christening of Murdoch Stewart to a
father Duncan at Achiltibuie 15 July, 1822, probably the Murdo above.
Another christening to Duncan was "Mary Margaret" 24 September, 1827,
possibly two sisters?
Polglass 71-49
This Household appears in Enumeration District 1, page 11. Murdo (the
Head of Household) was marked as born at Achnahaird, the rest at Polglass.
In the 1861 census this family was at Polglass
61-16. In 1881 the family is at Polglass 81-12,
young Roderick has married by then to Mary (?), and has a 4 year old son,
that Mary is listed as aged 35, possibly she is the Mary Campbell above.
Murdo's wife Anabella was a Lamont from Assynt. She died a few months
after the last census, 3 September, 1861, of Typhus. Murdo was Informant on
the death registration, and said her parents were William Lamont and
Margaret McLeod.
A daughter of Murdo, Abigail "Abie" married 23 March, 1865 to John
McLeod. They are in this census with four children at Polglass 71-60. Abie and John were great-grandparents of
Jim McGreal of Hamilton Ontario (CONTACT
INFO) through their son Angus (eight years old in the 1891 census).
William McLeod at Achiltibuie 71-7 is a son
of Murdo and Anabella.
Polglass 71-50
This Household appears in Enumeration District 1, page 11. Norman is marked as born at Tanera, the others as at Coigach. The expression
"or Ketty" for Cathrine the daughter was written in after, must have been confusing with three Cathrine McKenzies in a Household of five
people!
In the 1861 census this family was at Polglass 61-17, with them then was a son Roderick, who is in this census as Head
of the next Household, with his wife and two children at Polglass 71-51.
Cathrine's Maiden Surname was MacLeod, as noted in son Roderick's 1887 death registration, and in her own death registered as 16 January,
1874. Her parents had been Donald MacLeod, and Isabella, maiden surname MacLeod.
Norman's death is registered as 20 December, 1874, the registration names his father as having been a Kenneth McKenzie, but I think
transposes the names of his wife and mother; wife noted as "Henny McKenzie", mother noted as Catherine, maiden surname McLeod. Informant of
the death of both Norman and his wife Catherine was their son Kenneth.
A daughter of Norman and Catherine, Isabella, was in the last census at Altandhu 61-8, with her husband Murdo
McLeod and four children, she died 6 April, 1869 at Altandhu, age 39 years, having suffered her last seven years from consumption, her family
is in this census at Altandhu 71-42, their descendants include Dr.Neil MacLeod in California (CONTACT INFO).
Polglass 71-51
This Household appears in Enumeration District 1, pages 11 and 12. They were all marked as born at Polglass, except Mary
born at Milton (a place in Gairloch Parish).
In the 1861 census Roderick was with his McKenzie family at Polglass 61-17, his parents and other
relatives are in this census in the previous Household at Polglass 71-50.
In the 1881 census this family is Polglass 81-11.
Roderick's death is registered as 1883 at Polglass. The registration says his parents, both then deceased, had been Norman
MacKenzie and Catherine, Maiden Surname MacLeod.
The marriage of Roderick McKenzie to Mary McKenzie was registered 1 April, 1868 at Dingwall, then the births of four of
their children are registered in Lochbroom Parish.
Roderick's brother Donald is in this census with his wife Flora, four children, and Flora's sister Vineywood at Achiltibuie 71-34.
A few Households before this one at Polglass 71-45 has Barbra McKenzie from Milton as a Visitor. I
wonder if she was a relative of Mary above?
Polglass 71-52
This Household appears in Enumeration District 1, page 12. They were
all marked as born at Coigach.
In the 1861 census this family was at Polglass
61-18, Anabella's husband Roderick was alive and Head of Household
then.
Anabella was the second wife of Roderick Grant, they married 31 March
1825 with Roderick listed as from Airdmare, and Annabel McGregor from
Achiltibuie. (Roderick was first married to Margaret MacDonald).
The marriage of Catherine Grant to Murdoch Kerr was registered 15
January, 1868 at Govan in Lanark, and the birth of young Isabella above to
that couple was registered 10 June, 1869 at Lochbroom.
Samuel marries 25 December, 1872 to Isabella McKenzie. Cannot see
Isabella in this census, but her family is at Achlochan 71-67. In the 1881 census
they are at Polglass 81-10 with three children, a
fourth child is then with Isabella's parents at Achlochan 81-1.
Polglass 71-53
This Household appears in Enumeration District 1, page 12. They were all marked as born at Lochbroom.
In the 1861 census this family was at Polglass 61-19, in 1881 they are at Polglass
81-9.
Catherine's death is registered as 1896 at Polglass, aged 52 years. Her parents are noted as having been Murdo Graham and
Catherine, Maiden Surname McLean.
In the 1881 census Murdo is not present, he probably died before then. Also with the family then is an unmarried brother
Kenneth.
Christine McKenzie, with a different spelling of her forename in each census, is with this family from at least the 1851
census to her death 1893. The registration notes her parents had been John MacKenzie and Isabella, Maiden Surname MacDonald.
Polglass 71-54
This Household appears in Enumeration District 1, page 12. Hugh and
Janet were marked as born at Strathcanaird, Ann at Inverkirkag (In
Assynt), and the rest at Polglass.
In the 1861 census this family was at Polglass
61-20.
Ann's maiden surname was also McLeod, it is shown in the civil
registration of the death of their child Kenneth, aged 9 months on the 9th
of July, 1856.
Also recorded are births of two of the children;
Hugh's brother Roderick is in this census at Achlochan 71-62.
Polglass 71-55
This Household appears in Enumeration District 1, page 12. They were
all marked as born at Coigach, except Christina born at Strathcanaird.
In the 1861 census this family was at Polglass
61-21. With them then was a son Kenneth, who is now married and Head
of the next Household at Polglass 71-56.
In the 1881 census Alexander is a Widower, with his daughter Mary and
grandson James Stewart, at Polglass 81-7.
Before the next census young Alexander marries to Bella (?), and is
living next to his father at Polglass 81-6.
The Parish Register records the marriage 17 February, 1826 of
"Alexr. Campbell and Christian Fraser Coigach".
Not certain, but I think Ann Stewart two households away at Polglass 71-57, is a daughter of Alexander and Christina.
Polglass 71-56
This Household appears in Enumeration District 1, page 13. They were all marked as born at Polglass.
In the 1861 census Kenneth was with his family at Polglass 61-21, they are in the census in the previous Household, Polglass 71-55.
This family is listed in the 1881 census at Polglass 81-20, with Mary's maiden surname shown to be Stewart.
Kenneth Campbell married Mary Stewart 1 February, 1865. The births of four of their children are in the civil registration, including Isabella above 19 September, 1870 as "Esabella". The marriage registration notes Mary was resident at Achiltibuie, her parents Kenneth Stewart and Mary, maiden surname MacLeod (deceased). Mary was with her Widowed father and a brother in the 1861 census at Achiltibuie 61-14.
Not certain, but I think Ann Stewart in the next Household, Polglass 71-57, is a sister of Kenneth Campbell.
Polglass 71-57
This Household appears in Enumeration District 1, page 13. They were all marked as born at Coigach.
Not sure where Ann was in the 1861 census, but Kenneth was then with the family of his brother John at Polglass 61-26. In 1861 this croft was occupied by Kenneth's sister Mary and her family, see Polglass 61-22.
Annie was a Campbell, not certain, but I think she was a daughter of Alexander Campbell and Christina Fraser two Households before at Polglass 71-55 (with Kenneth Campbell in the previous Household, Polglass 71-56, her brother). Regardless, she and Kenneth Stewart married 29 January, 1863, and her surname is
confirmed in the registrations of the births of four of their children.
A death is registered as 3 March, 1875 at Polglass of a one year old Margaret Stewart to parents Kenneth and Ann.
In the 1881 census this family is at Polglass 81-5.
Kenneth was originally from Badenscallie, his brother Murdo is there in this census at Badenscallie 71-116, and Ann Stewart at Badenscallie 71-68 is Widow of his brother John.
Flora Stewart at Polglass 71-61 is a sister of Kenneth.
Polglass 71-58
This Household is on page 13 of Enumeration Division #1. All marked as born at Coigach. Mary's listing was inserted later.
In the 1861 census this family was at Polglass 61-23. Roderick was the son of Duncan McKenzie and his first wife, Ann McKenzie. Duncan with his second wife and other children is in this census in the next Household, Polglass 71-59.
In the 1881 census this family is at Badenscallie 81-27.
The Civil Registration index records the marriage 3 January, 1856 of Roderick McKenzie to Murdina McLeod. Also shown are the births of seven of their children;
The death of the first son named Murdoch was registered 18 April, 1861, aged 1 year at Polglass, clearly the Murdoch above was named after him.
A son of Roderick and Murdina, Alexander, is with Murdina's mother Mary in this census at Achiltibuie 71-33, he was also there in 1861 at Achiltibuie 61-37.
Another son of Roderick's father Duncan and Duncan's first wife Ann, Alexander, married a few months before this census, 23 February, 1871 to Catherine McKenzie. They are in this census with Catherine's family at Achiltibuie 71-27.
Polglass 71-59
This Household appears in Enumeration District 1, page 13. They were all marked as born at Coigach, and Thomas marked as Deaf (the 1881 census lists Thomas as "Imbecile from Birth").
In the 1861 census this family was at Polglass 61-24, in 1881 they are at Polglass 81-18, though Christina is missing then, there is a six year old son William of hers with the family..
Duncan McKenzie and his first wife Ann McKenzie were gt.gt.gt.grandparents of Cela Beale (CONTACT INFO). She has done lots of research on these McKenzies and provides the following info;
The O.P.R. includes the marriage 5 March, 1833 of "Duncan Mackenzie Achiltibuie and Ann Mackenzie Badinscally".
Roderick in the previous Household, Polglass 71-58, was a son of Duncan and his first wife, Ann McKenzie.
Another son of Duncan and his first wife Ann, Alexander, married a few months before this census, 23 February, 1871 to Catherine McKenzie. They are in this census with Catherine's family at Achiltibuie 71-27. Alexander and Catherine are Cela's ancestors.
Duncan's first wife Ann McKenzie died sometime between the 1851 census and his marriage to Margaret McLeod of Isle Martin above 17 January, 1856. Both Duncan and Margaret's parents were deceased by time of their marriage, his listed as Roderick McKenzie and Christina McKenzie, hers as "Murdoch Macleod, Catechist and Mary Stewart".
Duncan dies in 1888 aged 81, his death registration says he was then married to Margaret McLeod. The Registration lists his father as Roderick McKenzie, and his mother as Christy Mackenzie.
Polglass 71-60
This Household is on pages 13 and 14 of Enumeration Division #1. All marked as born at Coigach.
John's death registration in 1899 notes his parents had been Alexander MacLeod and Margaret, maiden surname MacLeod, John was with his Widowed father in the 1841 census at Achlochan 41-3, in 1861 John was away from home, "visiting", but two of his siblings including Margaret were at Polglass 61-25, his brother Roderick is in this census at Achlochan 71-62.

Janet and Angus were enumerated twice! They are also in this census with their mother Mary Stewart at Badenscallie 71-116. Their father Murdoch (Flora's brother), is the missing Head of Household there.
In the 1881 census the two children are back with their parents at Badenscallie 81-24 and Flora is by herself two
Households away at Badenscallie 81-26.
Kenneth Stewart at Polglass 71-57 is a brother of Flora. Ann Stewart at Badenscallie 71-68 is Widow of Flora's brother John.
