I found the following letter, that was written in 1918, by the Governor of Territorial Alaska, regarding Mr. Goodlataw's efforts to bring education to the Indian school at McCarthy. The letter is addressed to M. F. Roberts, Box 473, McCarthy, Alaska

Dear Sir:
I have your letter
of May 15, written at the insistance of John Goodlataw, regarding
Indian school at McCarthy. It seems that the natives have been neglected
by the Bureau of Education and are really entitled to a great deal of consideration.
Will you please explain to John Goodlataw that I shall take pleasure in
communicating with the Bureau of Education, with the object in view of
affording what seems to be needed relief. I am very glad, indeed,
to hear of the high reputation of John Goodlataw and beg to assure you
that if at any time I can assist in the betterment of the Indians, I shall
be only too glad to do so.
