MISCELLANEOUS ARTICLES and NOTICES

Dennison, Texas. A Commercial Failure. Some excitement was occasioned in business circles this morning by the ....failure of I. YIEDEL, keeper of a populat and much patronized saloon. The excitement was somewhat heightened by the unknown whereabouts of Mr. YIEDEL.

A negro named Bill ANDERSON had his right arm badly lacerated at the gin of w. C. BURRIS on las Monday.

R. H. PARKER returned from Abilene...and has been quite sick at home since. We are glad to kow that he has struck a good thing out west.

Dr. John MCCARTY has purchased the really handsome building site of J. L. WHITE in SHORT’s addition and will erect a residence and make it his home.

The many friends of Dr. John McCARTY, an old family physician of McKinney, will be rejoiced to know that he has returned and determined to make McKinney his home for the remainder of his life. He has formed a copartnership with Dr. T. W. WILEY and at once enters the practice.

F. H. WELCH is now with Jno. D. PAGE, in the Insurance Agency and will be glad to write Policies for his friends.

Mr. B. D. LITTLEJOHN has placed on our table some fine potatoes of the Early Rome variety, as large as hens’ eggs.

On Tuesday last, Miss Sallie BATTLE gave her scholars a nice little picnic, near the city.

Dr. FOOTE, J. S. STOVALL and others ‘lit’ out for the lakes this week to see if they could catch a fish as large as the one Jonah swallowed.

Chas. T. MORRISS, indicted here for forgery and who forfeited his bond, was seen in Dallas, last Tuesday....he was arrested in Fort Worth. Sheriff WARDEN, learning of it sent a deputy after him, but he had made his escape from the chain gang of that city.

Messrs. BATES & SEAY have begun to move their frame buildings from the East side of the square, preparatory to erecting bricks.

Letter from Georgia. .....As I was a citizen of old Collin county for one year, I feel interested in your paper. If it had not been for my parents [being ill] I would have been in Texas to-day. I went to Texas in 1880 and farmed with a gentleman by the name of Jonathan GRAYUM. [signed] Daniel ALLISON.

EX-CONFEDERATES IN COLLIN COUNTY



A Good Time Coming...Preliminary meeting of ex-confederates, at McKinney, to prepare for the formal and forever burial of the hatchet.

A large number of the Association of ex-Confederate Missourians, old settlers, members of ROSS’ brigade, ECTOR’s brigade, Col. FITZHUGH’s regiment and JOHNSON’s spies of Collin county, Texas, met at McKinney on Saturday. April 28, 1883, pursuant to a call of the president of the Association ...for the purpose of making preparations for the joint reunion in August next....The meeting was a large and enthusiastic one, in which all the above and old settlers were largely represented....

The President [Colonel Thomas H. MURRAY].... called the meeting to order and appointed a committee to submit ....plans for the joint reunion in August next. The committee was composed of Hon. J. W. THROCKMORTON, chairman; Colonel William FITZHUGH, Captain W. A. RHEA of McKinney, Colonel D. A. WILLIAMS, of Dallas; Captain W. H. LEMMON, Hon. W. N. BUSH, of Collin county, Captain H. C. MACK, of McKinney, Colonel J. H. JENKINS. .....

The committee recommended the following persons on the various committees: Old Settlers - G. A. FOOTE of McKinney; ROSS’ Brigade - J. P. NENNEY, of McKinney; ECTOR’s Brigade - J. H.
