Sheriff BUSH reached this place last Wednesday night from Quincy, Illinois, having in charge, Stephen M. BALLEW, the alleged mureered of young GOLDIN. BALLEW has been lodged in jail, and we suppose will be tried at the July term of our District Court.

REGISTRATION NOTICE.
Notice is hereby given that the registration required by law, will commence at the Registrar�s office in the town of McKinney, on Tuesday, September 12th 1871 and will continue for ten consecutive days, exclusive of Sunday, during which time all citizens of the county possessed of the requisite qualifications, who have not heretofore registered, will have an opportunity of becoming registered voters. COURT NEWS.
Our District Court adjourned today. The cases tried this week have been of minor importance. BALLEW�s case was continued.
Seven prisoners, of whom four are still at large, escaped from the jail at this place last Sunday. It is supposed they had assistance from the outside. The names of those at large are Henry BOWIE, Thomas BUIE, James CLARK, and ______ [sic] ROBERTSON. The first two had been tried and sentenced for seven years each. CLARK and ROBERTSON, charged with horse stealing, had not had their trial. Immediately after escaping, CLARK mounted a horse, which, with some others was hitched near the jail, and when last heard from was pushing towards Dallas. He is said to be a very bad character.
We learn that a man buy the name of JASPER was frightfully cut up with a knife, a few nights ago at Pilot Grove in Grayson county, by some party or parties whose names we have not learned.

At the residence of Mrs. Milton WILKERSON, in this place, on Friday morning, 28th inst, Guv [or Guy], only son of W. L. and Emma BOYD, aged 3 � years.

THE ASSASSIN AGAIN AT WORK.
Another most dastardly attempt to assassinate the editor of this paper was made on Thursday the 7th inst., at about 8 o�clock at night. The assassin had concealed himself in a corner of the fence south-east of the house, and fired the first shot at a distance of twelve or fourteen paces. He then mounted his horse, fired two more shots in rapid succession, wheeled and galloped off in the direction of the woods, distant about two hundred yards south-west. Before the editor could enter the house and return to the yard with a double barrel shot gun, the scoundrel was out of reach and lost to view in the darkness of the night. Pursuit was instituted a few moments afterwards by Sheriff BUSH with a small squad of armed men, but we are sorry to say that it was unsuccessful. The first shot fired, which could not have missed its aim more than a few inches, entered the house at the south end, and passed through the right leg of the mantle piece, just six inches below the head of a little child asleep on a lounge. Judging from its size and appearance it was fired from a dragoon six. The guilty author of this most infamous and unprovoked outrage is now a fugitive from justice.

The notorious Joe PARKER was brought to town last Saturday evening and lodged in our county jail where he now is. Five or six murders of tolerably recent occurrence are said to have been committed by him, among them the murder of Mr. PEACOCK of Grayson county and Mrs. PENDLETON, of Hunt. Capiases from both these counties have been served upon him since his capture. Joe�s wounds are not considered mortal.
A report has reached town that Billy GRAVES, said to have been shot when Joe PARKER was captured died from the effects of his wounds. Another story is current that he was not seriously hurt. We hardly know which story to credit, but think it probable that he was not killed.

Billy GRAVES is not dead. He was captured a few days since near the Sherman road by State Policeman _______ SMITH and brought to within a few miles of town. Darkness coming on he gave the policeman the slip at T. J. McDANIEL�s, and has not since been heard from. His brother, Ike is said to have left the state.

SCHOOL NOTICE:
At a meeting opf the Board of Directors at McKinney, on Monday the 9th inst., the following action was taken....Whereas, it is the unanimous opinion of the board, that the peace and success of the public free Schools in Collin county, and the good of the whole require, separate schools for the whites and separate schools for colored persons, and that said schools should not be established in the immediate vicinity of each other. Therefore resolved and ordered that public schools in Collin, be established for whites exclusively and for colored persons exclusively, and at such distances from each other as to aroid irritation, conflict, or interruption, one from the other.
Each neighborhood in which reside a scholastic population of colored persons, will, at the same time of selecting a site for a school house for whites, select an eligible site for a school house for colored persons.
The directors will require persons recommending sites for school houses of both classes, to furnish information at the same time, of the present owners of the sites, if known, the quantity of land desirable to take for each site recommended, and whether such sites will be donated, if not, the price asked and what its fair reasonable value is.

Collin county district court will adjourn to-day. This morning�s mail brings the result of the appeal in the BALLEW case. The Supreme court affirms the judgment here and sentence will be pronounced by Judge ANDREWS to-day, perhaps this evening. We understand the Supreme Court recommended a commutation from hanging to imprisonment for life in the case of BALLEW. The 24th of May is the day fixed for BALLEW�s execution. We understand there is to be an appeal in the SANDERS� case. ... SANDERS convicted of the murder of Jas. HUFFINES goes on appeal to the Supreme Court. A verdict of �not guilty� was returned in the PHILLIPS case this morning.
REPUBLICAN CONVENTION:
A convention of the Republicans of Collin county is called to take place at the Court house in the town of McKinney on Saturday 27th inst., for the purpose of choosing delegates to the Republican State convention. [Signed] Jas. W. THOMAS, Chairman, Rep. Ex. Com. Collin co.
CHURCH AT MANTUA - SETTLEMENT OF DIFFERENCE: Brother J. W. THOMAS, Editor McKinney Messenger: In accordance with an agreement made at the time that the following papers �be published�, I furnish you copies, with the request of the congregation of the church of Christ, at Mantua, Collin county, to respectfully ask you to publish them in the Messenger...... that all who are interested may thus be put in possession of the cause of difference in the Mantua church, and it final settlement. Preliminary Statement: At a co-operation meeting of the church of Christ, held at White Mound, Grayson county, Texas, in the spring of 1870, Bro. H. P. DYER made complaint against Dr. B. F. HALL, which will be hereafter shown and the said cooperation resolved that Bro. B. F. HALL deposit his letter in some convenient congregation. Bro. HALL having just removed from Dallas, Texas selected the church at Mantua. After the reception of the letter, some of the members became dissatisfied and stated they could not fellowship Dr. HALL as a member of the Mantua church and withdrew and organized a separate congregation. [An investigation by Eight invited churches met at Mantua.] ..... On December 16th the congregation at Mantua, appointed two of its members to wait upon and serve the dissatisfied members .... the church having waited with �patience of hope� that their �labor of love� would succeed in restoring unity in the community......
