THE MARTIN HOMICIDE. A New Aspect of the Case - Was it a Murder? We see by the Sherman Courier, that Mr. O. BOUNDS who killed MARTIN, was on Friday bound over in a bond of $10,000, to appear at the next term of the Criminal Court. Mr. BOUNDS waived an examination. This case has assumed a different aspect since the first news of the killing was published and there is a strong feeling that young MARTIN was innocent of the charges preferred against him by BOUNDS. We have been told that the girl whom he is said to have attempted to outrage, is only six or seven years old, while MARTIN has always borne an excellent reputation in the community, being a moral, modest, and gallant young man and universally liked. It is said, moreover, that BOUNDS is of a habit of having trouble with his hired help. A school teacher was the only witness to the killing, as we understand. He says BOUNDS met MARTIN on horseback, near the house, and ordered him to leave the State inside of four days. This MARTIN refused to do, when BOUNDS drew a six shooter and shot him through the body. The horse was frightened by the report, and ran some distance up the lane with MARTIN, until he fell off, and soon after expired. Denison News, Feb. 3rd.

COURT ITEMS:

Criminal court is in the second week of its session and will sit two weeks longer.

James McCARTY and Charlie MERRIMAN have each been sentenced to the penitentiary for theft from house, the former for two, the latter for five years.

The LILLARD case has been set for Monday week, and the WEEDEN case for Tuesday week.

The Grand Jury is still in session, but will probably adjourn temporarily today.

COMPLIMENTARY.

LOCAL AND SPECIAL:

Senator BROUGHTON died at Sherman on Monday of last week.

The North Texas Enterprise says that Dr. WHITE, who was recently shot at in the town of Pilot Point by some unknown person, was the other day overtaken by three men, two miles from that place, and had twenty shots fired at him, as he escaped on a fleet horse. He now resides at Sherman.

A mad-dog was killed in the southern part of town last Monday.

The erection of new county buildings being among the probabilities of the early future, it will interest our citizens to know that very handsome drawings of courthouse and jail can be seen at the office of Esq. MACK, west of the south-west corner of the public square.

A protracted meeting, begun last Monday night, by Elder R. M. GANO, is in progress as the Christian church. Elder GANO is a logical, earnest and impressive speaker, and large and deeply attentive audiences give evidence of due appreciation on the part of our citizens.
