1759 Lydia Moreland 17 years old, and John over 14, legatees of John Smith of Hopewell, Hunterdon Co., their uncle, petition that Samuel Tucker, Jr. of Trenton, merchant be appointed their Guardian. NJ Calendar of Wills page 228.

1772 Feb. 7. "Supposed to be taken out of the Subscriber's drawer this morning by [a person who calls himself William Morland, but supposed not to be his real name] William Morlin, two joes and 11 half joes, one milled pistol, and about twenty pounds in paper money. Said Morlin is about 5 ft. 10 or 11 inches high, aged about 27 years, a well set fellow, pitted with the small pox, has lightish eyes and dark curled hair; had on when he went away a coarse hat, a blue surtout with cross pockets, a blue tight bodied coat, and blue double breasted vest, fine shirt marked H.R.; a striped silk handkerchief about his neck; and had four more of same piece; buckskin breehes rather too short for him, redish brown and white mixed worsted stockings, new pumps with yellow carved buckles in them. He calls himself this country born, but, from his dialect, is supposed to be a West-country man. Whoever takes up the said fellow, and secures him in any of his Majesty's goals, so that he may be convicted of the theft, shall have the above reward, and all reasonable charges, paid by William Shreeve".NJ Archives Vol. XXVIII page 53.

1772 June 1. Philadelphia. "On Saturday the 16th ult. the Supreme Court for the province of NJ ended, .........At the same Court, William Morlan, alias William Newman alias William Blakely, alias John Morlan was convicted of Grand Larceny and burnt in the hand."NJ Archives Vol. XXVIII page 155.

1772 June 23. Burlington Co. William Morlan pardoned and ordered to depart the province of NJ forthwith and not voluntarily return into the same again.E. Jersey Commissions Vol. AB pages 115-116.
