1. Olive Almyra Colton, daughter of Abram Walter COLTON and Catharine Van Horne, was born on 2 Sep 1873 in Toledo, Lucas Co., OH and died on 7 Aug 1972 in Toledo, Lucas Co., OH at age 98.

General Notes: 1. Qt. Geo. Colton book #1981s. Olive attended kindergarten at Miss Forsythe's school, a year in public school, and then completed her formal education through high school at the Smead School for Girls (later the Maumee Valley Country Day School) OH. Traveled extensively in the U.S. & Europe and had an extensive collection of postcards, later donated to U. of Toledo. She organized Dist. Nurses Assc., League of Women's Voters & child Welfare Agency & Unemployment Relief & Women's Sufferage. She was founder of the League of Women Voters of Toledo, OH in 1921. Best known as a suffragist & reformer.
2. Olvie Colton lived in her family home at Woodruff and Collingwood Ave. until her mother's death (1930 census), then lived in the Park Lane Hotel from February 1931 until about 1966, when she moved to the Cherry Hills Nursing Home. She suffered from cancer and died at Cherry Hills on August 7, 1972, less than a month before her 99th birthday.
3. Listed in "Ohio Authors & Their Books". Her collections are located at the Ward M. Canaday Center for special collections at U. of Toledo, Toledo, OH.

General Notes: 1. Qt. Geo. Colton & Desc #1089. He was in the shipping & commission business in Toledo, Lucas Co., OH as owner/general manager of the Lake Erie Transportation Co. (a line of lake freighters), and as Gen. Manager of Wabash & Erie Fast Freight Line. He served as Pres. of the Toledo Board of Trade 1874-1875. Had an office building at Madison Ave. & Erie St. in Toledo, OH. They lived at 450 West Woodruff at crn. of Collingwood Blvd. in Toledo, Lucas Co., OH - 1930 census.

Abram married Catharine Van Horne on 26 Dec 1869 in Bergen Co., NJ. Catharine was born in 1844 and died in 1930 at age 86.

4. Carlos COLTON, son of Dr. Walter COLTON and Nancy Brace, was born on 29 Jul 1800 in Pompey, Onondaga Co., NY and died on 6 Apr 1882 in St. Louis, St. Louis Co. MO at age 81.

General Notes: 1. Qt. Geo. Colton & Desc., #525 located in FHL. He accompanied his father during the War of 1812 while he served as a Surgeon; was taken P.O.W. at the capture of Oswego, NY & detained on the sloop H.M. Wolfe for a month. Was elected County Clerk of Monroe Co., MI and engaged in the shipping business in Monroe and Toledo, where he had moved in 1869. Sect. of Mutual Insurance Co. of Toledo for many years while also Sect/Treas. of the Toledo Board of Trade (1861-1875 ?). There was a firm of "Hollister & Colton" in Toledo, OH during this time period. Later, with his son, Alpheus Felch, they engaged in general insurance business in Toledo, OH. He died at the home of dau. Annie Sophia (Colton) Doughaday.

8. Dr. Walter COLTON, son of Gideon COLTON and Deidemia Purchase, was born in 1773 in Springfield, Hampden Co., MA and died on 27 Sep 1834 in Monroe, Monroe Co., MI at age 61.

General Notes: 1. Qt. Geo. Colton & Desc; #236. He had studied medicine in Longmeadow, MA. He was the 1st practicing physician in Pompey, Onondaga Co., NY (1800 Fed. Census) also practicing in Onondaga, Manlius, & Oswego, NY; Perrysburg, OH & Monroe, MI. On 01 Jul 1806 helped form the Onondaga Co., NY Medical Society with John H. Frisbie as Pres. and himself as Sect. with a total of 11 members. Also a Surgeon in the War of 1812; present at the battle of Queenstown and was sent within the British lines to care for American wounded prisoners; subsequently stationed at Sacketts Harbor, Jefferson Co., NY and was present at the capture of Ft. George, after which he resigned his commission in the Army. He also served as a County Judge of Common Pleas in NY, OH (Perrysburg, Wood Co., OH 1823-28) & MI. He purchased 80 acres of land 10 Jul 1826 thru Monroe, MI Land Office. He served as a Township Supervisor in Monroe, Monroe Co., MI in 1829-1830. A bitter opponent of slavery & an advocate of temperance, a writer and speaker taking an active part in public affairs.

Walter married Nancy Brace on 1 Feb 1798 in Pompey, Onondaga Co., NY. Nancy died on 25 Mar 1843 in Monroe, Monroe Co., MI.

General Notes: 1. Qtr. Geo. Colton & His Desc; #1. He came from Sutton Coldfield, England (abt. 8 miles from Birmingham, England). Supposedly the very first Colton to arrive in America; supposedly landed at Salem, MA abt. 1640.
2. sub. by Villa D. Lamb, Rt. 2, Box 1777, Mesa, Ariz. He was one of the founders of Longmeadow, MA and served in many capacities.
