Thank you for your prompt response. I tried getting on the Sammons mailing
list, but had no luck in signing up. I don't know if it is because of my old
computer or what. Would you please submit my name and mailing address? It is
Ida A. Roberts, San Antonio, Texas. Thanks so much! And now for the
information on Barbara W. Sammons, et al:
Barbara Williams Sammon was born in 1785, died Jan. 1, 1869 in New Orleans,

Moore's death, then on to New Orleans, La. about 1826 .)
Robert Burwell Moore died Sept. 17, 1814, Major in the War of 1812 served
in Wilkerson's Campaign in Louisiana. While returning home on furlough,
contracted a disease ( possibly malaria) and died at Ft. Deerborn, Columbia,
S. Carolina.

       3. William Pinkney Moore, born Oct. 8, 1813 in Greenville County, S.
Carolina, died in June of 1835 in or around Matagorda, Texas in the Texas
Rebellion as a New Orleans Grey.
       4. Elizabeth Washington Moore married Theodore B. Robert and had 4
children. ***
       5. Louisa Moore married 1. John Penise, married 2. John Galpin and
had 7 children. ***
       6. Sarah Moore married Henry Mather and left no children.
***I have the names of the children ( and some grandchildren). Will type
them in another time, if you are interested.

Mr. Prince, I am a real novice at doing this, so please pardon my mistakes.
I am looking for more information on Robert B. Moore before his marriage to
Barbara Sammons. I believe that he was from the Camden District, Fairfield
County, S. Carolina and was the son of James Moore, but am still unsure. The
1790 Census for S. Carolina hasn't given me much to work off. Any ideas or
suggestions you may have would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again.
Ida

Hi Group!

I am partially back - have been moving my mother in law from her home of 42
years into a retirement community here in Novato. She had lived in the
house for 42 years so was a JOB. Another Sammons rooter sent this to me -
hope that some of you can help her. John R. I think that we have talked
about some of these names but am not sure.

Hi Folks,
Today while at the Sussex County Courthouse I accidentally ran across an
item that gives genealogists headaches, its a Ministers Return to the
Clerks Office, Sussex Co.VA.listing 24 Marriages, one of which was the
Marriage of a Braxton Sammon to a Polly (looks like Girn, but is most
likely Hirn)on January 17,1804.(The Location of the record is "Marriage
Bonds 1817-1822, Reference 1820-50")

The Ministers return was dated August 14,1820,the Marriage dates ranged
from 1795 to 1819!! & signed by Robert Murrell Sr. of S.hampton.

But back to the Marriage of Braxton Sammons and Polly Hearn:
As you all know, we also have a Brides Consent and Marriage Bond for
the same marriage dated December 16,1803, so could the actual Ceremony
have taken place a month later?

Now the problem. The dates on the Ministers return are not all in exact
order as they would be if written immediately after the event. Also, I
checked the dates against the FTM Marriage CD that Covers Sussex Co.Va.
and EVERY marriage that I found(quite a few)the dates on the Ministers
return were a few days later than those on the CD. And why would the
Minister wait all those years (in one case 25 years) to send the list
to the Court Clerk to have the marriages recorded??

So even though it is hard to argue with a document dated August 14,1820
I believe this one could have a credibility problem. But since this is
an official document,I will probably submit it to the USGenWeb Virginia
Archives so that all genealogists that may have an interest in those 24
Marriages will have a chance to make up their own minds (or get their
own headaches) about whether to use the Marriage dates or not. :)
                                                       Russell

Subject: Newit's Sammons Marriage?
   Date: Fri, 9 Oct 1998 12:11:42 -0400
From: "Bill and Anna Stewart" <[email protected]>
     To: "Sammons Consortium" <[email protected]>

We would like to raise another question with regard to Newit Sammons. This
is directed to all but with particular reference to Hope. We have seen
Hope's notes about the Long family and the possible connection with Newit's
marriage to a Mary Long. We have been unable to find a marriage record for
Newit with a Mary Long and would like to add the documentation for this.
It makes a lot of sense that he was married earlier than the record we
have of a marriage to Clarymo Lawrence as follows:
In the book "Greensville Co. Marriage Records, 1781 – 1852, the
following marriages are listed:
Groom Bride Date Bondsman

Sammons, Newit and Lawrence, Clarymo 13 Feb 1787 Long, Joseph

As he was born in 1749, he would have been relatively old for a first
marriage in 1787. In addition we note the name of the bondsman as Joseph
Long which indicates a connection with the Long family. If anyone has a
source reference for this marriage to Mary Long, would you please let us
know so that we can document it in our records.
            Thanks, Bill and Anna Stewart

I have Sammons/Salmons on my grandfather and my grandmother's side. My
grandmother's side has been traced back to John Salmons, Sr who was born in
VA, married Eleanor McCarty on April 10 1748 and died around 1761.

I don't have much info of my grandfather's except someone in the line was
Rowland Sammons born in 1799.

Sammons researcher:

Ken Florey forwarded your e-mail to me, as I have done most of the research
on this part of the Florey line. We have a Thomas Sammons who married
Melissa Jane Florey on 25 Jun 1875 in Taylorville, Christian Co., IL.
Thomas was the son of Benjamin and Polly Storset. I have no further
information on the parents.

Thomas and Melissa had six children; Myrtle H., Ada I., Albert "Jim", Robert
William, Josie Florence and Grace G.

If I can be of any further help, please write back.

Please add the following person to the Consortium address list:
Darrell Sammons [email protected]

Darrell is my cousin and in fact is the person who did much of the
original research on his branch of the family, research that gave me a big
start in my own studies on that side of the family. Darrell is a
descendant on the Newit Sammons side of the family, down from Edmund and
through Devrix and W.H. Sammons. He is one of the prime movers of the
annual Sammons reunion in Stockton, Kansas every spring. He will be
interested in seeing any items on the Sammons family.
Over the coming days I will be working to catch him up with some of the
info that has already been passed, such as the material that has been sent
to me by Hope, Jeri, and others. Will also send him the URL's for such
important sites as Charlotte's web page, the Sussex County (VA) page with
all the contributions from Russell Lawrence, etc.) but I need to find out
from him whether he has browsing capability on this e-mail connection or
just can use e-mail. Thanks. Bill Stewart
