Abercrombie/Carpenter Cemetery - Saline Co AR

ABERCROMBIE/CARPENTER CEMETERY
China Grove Road & Alexander Road
Alexander AR - Saline Co.

THIS IS A "NEAR GONE AND FORGOTTEN" CEMETERY
If you have family members in this cemetery that are in unmarked graves and not listed, please let us know who they are.
There isn't a sign by the road stating the cemetery is there and it is now on Saline Co. owned property.

Abercrombie/Carpenter Cemetery is grown up and unattended

It is on a hill with a beautiful view

DIRECTIONS: (From East End Community - Go to Sardis Rd. West, stay on Sardis Rd. west until you come
to Alexander Rd. (It will be on your right). Turn on Alexander, go straight about 3 blocks, and see
the Saline Co. Sheriffs Training Facility. In the curve, you will see a big yellow gate. If you
notice on the right of the gate is a street marker that says, China Gr & Alexander. The "pig trail"
behind the gate is China Grove Rd. The gate is locked and it is posted really well. Maybe if you
talked to the Sheriff's Dept they may open the gate and let you drive through. I walked it and it's
along way down that road. (About a mile) Or maybe they can tell you another access to the cemetery.
I didn't see another entrance. The cemetery is not kept and is surrounded by a old chain link fence,
without a gate, just an opening.

Here are the graves with stones. There is alot of them that do not have markers, There were a lot of
rocks, that I suspect are markers as it is plain to see they are graves.

THE NEWEST GRAVE WAS Houston E. Carpenter in 1970.

There are many graves with Funeral Home markers that are now unreadable.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Some of the unmarked graves may be:
Abercrombie S. M.         30 Dec 1821 - 21 Nov 1889
Barron Aaron Otto - 07 Oct 1945 age 53 (Funeral marker)
Carpenter   Lydia         05 Nov 1963 -
Gatser Jake - Jul 1940 age 43 (Funeral marker)
Kerr        Infant son    18 Feb 1922 - 18 Feb 1922 s/o Mr. & Mrs. W.E. Kerr
Kerr Vernia Marie - no dates (Funeral marker)
Kerr        Edward       [19 Oct 1914]- 13 Jan 1973 age 58y 2m 25d
Walker      Amanda Mrs.          1848 - 18 May 1943 age 95

These are not now legible or marker is gone. The above unmarked graves were found in Mrs.
W. Bernard Barber's extraction in 1975.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

These are unmarked graves with metal markers and someone put plants on the bottom one

From the two piles of rocks and others scattered over the cemetery, it suggests there were many
more interred whose grave plots are now lost forever.

~~~~~~
NOTE: Peggy is searching for her great-grandfather Richard A Rhoads, whose wife was Ella.
      On Richard's Death Certificate it stated that he was buried at "Holly Grove, Bryant".
      The cemetery board, said that Sardis was once considered a part of Bryant so she
checked out China Grove. Peggy didn't find their stones, unless they have unmarked graves.
Someone also told Peggy there is a "Holly Grove" Cem in Saline Co. If you know where
Holly Grove Cemetery might be, please contact either Peggy or Charlotte. It will be most appreciated.
