BAXTER (BRAXTON) SAMMONS MARRIAGE

TO NANCY PATE

  	      Know all men, That we  Baxter Sammons & Jones
 	   Glover, of the county of Williamson and state of Tennessee, are held and firm-
  	   ly bound unto the governor of the said state, for the time being, in the sum of 1250 dollars
  	   to be paid to his said excellency, his successors in office, or assigns, to which payment well
           and truly to be made bind ourselves, our heirs, executors, and administrators, and each
           and every of us and them, both jointly and severally and firmly by these presents. Wit-
           ness our hands and seals this 21st day of Jany 1812
              The condition of the above obligation is such, that whereas Baxter
  	      Sammons hath prayed and obtained a licence to marry Nancy
  	      Pate --- Now if there shall not appear any lawful cause why the said
 	      Baxter & Nancy should not be joined together in Holy
 	   Matrimony as husband and wife, then this obligation to be void, otherwise to remain in full
  	   force and virtue.

	Power of Attorney - Braxton Sammons to Groves Sammons
	(Deed Book L, page 458, Sussex Co.VA,)

	Know all men by these presents that I Braxton Sammons of the County of
	Rowan, State of North Carolina do by these presents authorise and 
	empower my Brother Grove Sammons of the County of Rowan and State
	aforesaid to sell and dispose of all my right interest and claim to my
	wife Nancy's part of a tract of land lying in Sussex County in the
	Commonwealth of Virginia and which descended to her by the death of her
	father Hardy Pate and to make conveyances in fee simple for the land
	aforesaid for me and in my name the whole tract of land is supposed to
	contain three hundred acres and lies in Poplar Swamp,and I do authorize
	and empower my said Attorney to receive whatever rents may be coming to
	me from the land aforesaid and to grant acquittances and receipts for
	the same in the same manner as though I were personally present. In
	witness whereof I have herewith set my hand and affixed my Seal this
	6th day of February A.D. 1815.

	Braxton Sammons this day personally appeared before us two of the 
	Justices of the peace for said County and acknowledged the foregoing
	Power of Attorney to be his act and deed February 6th 1815.

	I John Giles Clerk of the Court of pleas and quarter sesions of Rowan
	County do hereby certify that Lewis Beard and Moses A.Socke Esquires
	who have certified the acknowledgement of the within Power of Attorney
	are and have been legal acting Justices of the Peace in and for the
	County of Rowan duly commissioned and qualified, and that all due faith
	and credit is due and ought to be paid to their official acts. 
	In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand affixed the seal of said 
	Court at office in Salisbury the 6th day of February 1815.

	I John Murphy one of the acting Justices of the Peace for said County
	do certify that John Giles is Clerk of our Court of pleas and quarter
	sessions for the County of Rowan, and that all due faith and credit is
	due and ought to be paid to his offical act.Salisbury 6th February 1815.

	On the 4th day of May 1815 This Power of Attorney from Braxton Sammons
	to Groves Sammons was returned with the certificate thereto annexed and
	recorded in the Clerks office of Sussex County Court.

	     A deed was signed by Groves and Nancy Sammons on Feb 17, 1815 in B:L P:459
	Conveying "one sixth part of the land formerly owned by Hardy Pate to Howell Seaborne,
	for the sum of one hundred dollars "current money of the United States".  
	This deed was signed sealed and delivered in the presence of Wm. Parham, John Jarrott,
	and Robert Key by Groves and Nancy Sammons, and was recorded on May 4th, 1815.
